You wake up one morning, decide to go for a jog. You notice a tear in the lining of your shoe. It's tiny, barely noticeable. You shrug it off and go out anyway.
You see it every morning. Every day, you put off getting it fixed. Every day, it gets just a little bit wider. But you don't notice anymore. Eh, it seems fine. It's not so bad.
One day you're jogging through the park, hit a patch of mud and try to jump your way across. The tear, that's now a gaping hole, completely gives way and the sole falls clean off. Startled, you lose momentum and fall face-down in the muck.

You go to the mall with your friends. You spot a beautiful handbag in a boutique window. You stop to admire it, but don't go inside. Next time you go, that window has a stunningly crafted outfit, and shoes to match.
You get used to ogling at the items there. Stopping by that window, sipping your coffee, wishing you could buy it all. Not seriously, of course. Just day-dreaming.
You accompany your friends on shopping trips. Never getting anything yourself. Just window-gazing.
One balmy summer eve, when you desperately need an iced coffee, you step into the mall. Forty minutes later, you're walking out that store, merrily swinging $25k in brightly coloured shopping bags. Dimly worried about what it'll do to your credit score. But still too buzzed to care. Swapping coffee for martinis was a good idea.

Semi-squares are kinda like that. Squares are loud, persistent, never-ceasing, attention-sucking annoyances that absolutely *demand* to be fixed. Semi-squares creep up on you. The drastic changes that people get used to when they have a friend with a lot of squares in their chart, are quite shocking when coming from a semi-square person. There they were, sitting idly by. And all of a sudden, they're a tornado. It seems sudden, but it's probably a sub-conscious domino effect of change that's been set in motion long before it bubbles to the surface.
Now this may not apply to everybody, I'm just describing my own experiences with semi-squares.*
I have Sun semi-square Venus/Jupiter and Moon semi-square Uranus.
*Of course, the examples are purely for illustration. Trying to capture the theme. And I probably ruined the analogies by saying that - but it's important to clarify, I s'pose.  |

Thanks, @theunknown! Pluto semi-square north node... I'm guessing that would give you a certain unconscious power in changing directions(?) Or feel like you have to contend with unexpected twists in the road. Plutonic forces will be at work either way - they might come from you or the environment.
For instance, you might be set in your ways, but not hesitate to change something major, if you're pushed to the wall. Also, since we're constantly evolving, every inner transformation of yours would be reflected in outer, karmic actions(?) Like you're setting things in motion simply by changing an aspect of yourself.

Brilliant description! P`s Venus is semisquare my Jupiter, Neptune and NN (sitting on the midpoint, and additionally on my Moon/Venus-mp). it`s funny he even sang this line to me: "Always sneaking up on you". LOL Yeah, i guess I just needed some years to notice. |

Not a fan of these aspects.
Natally, internally, at least with a square, you know there is some definite problem. My sun square Pluto...I demonstrate and get feedback on that energy. Sun square Jupiter, pretty hard to ignore it, when I am overdoing something.
My Mars semisquare Saturn though...it's like, "I kinda just don't feel like doing that, but maybe." Not an acute problem or dead weight, just inertia.
A college professor introduced me to another professor saying, "Have you met 'Faith'? She does excellent work.....she does poor work also. It's strange."
Yeah if I feel like it, I'll do it to the absolute best of my ability (showing up for the job of being a Capricorn). If I feel "meh," then my work is "meh." Not outright failure or something to put the alarm bells on for my parents when I was younger. Just very mediocre.
This is hard because if you are someone who occasionally does excellent work, you want to be able to have something to show for it, but if you're not dependable, you have nothing to show for it, except whatever you can achieve in spurts, independently.

They are Very often taking shape in external events,
Personally i really Like semisquares, IT IS Like that surprising Ressource that i have and was Not awareness, of course one must live with the friction. Butvwithout friction No fire orvwarmth.

So you have Moon square NN semisquare Pluto, and probably Pluto is on your Moon/NN-mp, if not, then the orb of one of these aspects might be too wide, but so I guess this is the case.
There is a lot of emotional intensity and a need to periodically undergo very transformational periods in your emotions, though you might not come across as too fixated or obsessed, but still there is this quiet intense whisper underneath pushing you to resolve certain emotional issues or issues in emotional relationships, and sort of reinvent yourselfe over and over again.
Pluto is on the midpoint of that square, it`s like a focus being drawn to that Pluto, it is energy that goes inward to your Pluto (if using the NN, if using the SN it might be more external, but I am not even sure the nodes should be used in aspect figures, but anyway), it is a spot where some implosions can happen, usually of emotional nature, and often this is triggered by an external stimulation, coming from a transit in particular conjunct or opposite your Pluto.
Well I can be of course wrong with my interpretations, but semisquares are tension aspects, and they put a focus on some certain energy, however, they might not do in the flashy way the squares do, It`s difficult to describe for me, but a square to me is usually explosive, while semisquares are more implosive, internalized energy, while at the same time they are extremely sensitive to being activated by transits.
Those 8th harmonic aspects are about inner drives/ motivations; honestly speaking I am mostly talking about the minor square (a square having a semisquare to a third planet or even a Thors Hammer).
The planet in the middle is providing the fuel to the squaring planets, in your case Pluto is your motor to forming emotional connections with others, and if you scratch the surface a bit, you will find some Plutonic traits (of course this totally depends on how your Pluto is involved in your chart in general, how the Scorpio/ 8th house symbolism shows - if it is very foreign to you personally, you might meet the occasional stalker outside, sot to speak, forcing you to confront and realize what you really need in relationships, and more importantly what definitely NOT)
AS Cochrane puts it:
"Motivation and drive. feeling challenged by something and wanting to make a change and do something about it."
It is more internalized and less visible thant he square usually, but a deep part of psychological experience of a person. (the more internalized part can get VERY visible at times though when a transit is kicking its butt)
It`s also this feeling of being pinched repeatedly, nudged in a bit more dynamic way, but not like hit black and blue as by the square, but it`s relentless that pinching, so you finally get around to make that change that you deep inside know you ahve to make.

If it doesn`t make sense, I will try another time. Today I am just having a really crappy day. Actually a semisquare-day.  Not a big blow up like a square (which would clear the air), but a piling up and boiling up of tension and annoyance, that WILL probably find its goal later on. |

Well, it was more about the planets involved, Mars and Saturn. Saturn just subtly putting brakes on Mars. It's not like some major obstacle to overcome (the outright square) but a dull sense of not wanting to do it. I assume the semi-square is "negative" until we get the energy to work for us, and yes, after that...can be the good kind of friction, like grips on the bottom of your shoes that prevent you from falling on a slippery floor. |

Ava yes, I agree. Mars and Saturn are a difficult combination, esp. in dynamic aspects, due to their contrast nature. However, I just think the term inertia doesn`t quite fit it (at least not in the sense of laziness, but maybe I got the connotation wrong?), even though doing nothing might sometimes look like it, but the motivation is a different one, and on bad days Saturn can seriously block Mars energy and confidence. I do not mean to pretend the semisquare is all rosy either, it certainly isn`t, there is always a challenge involved. Well I have a Thors Hammer myself with Chiron square ERos-VErtex and both sesisquare Mars. On the flip side, expressing my Mars in a healthy way (which IS a challenge itself) also affects the Eros-Chiron-square, in a positive way, though it is still a rough path to take. In some report something was being said about "sexual healing". lol But my Mars can also be rather seething with God knows what suppressed rage/ energy and the raw vulnearability of Eros-Chiron basically is sort of a reason for it, I guess. BTW we have a semisquare/sesisquare day today Sun semisquare Venus 1°08: Sun sesisquare Mars 0°10 Venus square Mars 0°58 Sun opposite Neptune 0°33 Venus sesisquare Neptune 1°41 - a bit wide, but pulled in Mars semisquare Neptune 0°44 ------ steam-------- (not necessarily the good kind) Jupiter semisquare Saturn 0°31

Actually lumina, what you and 12YearsABlob said really resonated. My Pluto is midpoint/sesquiquadrate to cancer south node and Moon in Aries. Pluto semi square Northnode in Capricorn and exactly sexy ole mars in Capricorn (also ruler of moon). My moon is ruler of southnode so even tho I try to move away from that cancer south node, I can only feel satiated via Plutonic connection (Pluto in 7th). I go through periods of transformation but definitely never come off as too fixated or intense. It is usually over a period of time and that mars in Capricorn really is good at keeping things gradually moving forward without too much of a shake up. Ppl really help me find outlets to satiate my moony needs though. I just met a mentor more than a month who has been sorta a gentle catalyst to make sure I overcome blockage in a safe way (still scary and intense nonetheless but I do know he is guiding me through a methodical and safe way). |
