Do you have any? I like the cafeastrology article here, it's orderly and concise: cafeastrology.com/natal/retrogradesinthenatalchart.htmlI have Mars Rx exactly semisquare to Saturn Rx. Both of these very tightly aspect my sun. So I feel this is a major part of my personality. Heaviness and regret over things I said or didn't say. Struggles with feeling satisfied that I communicated a personal need in a dignified and justifiable way. Basically I am more inclined to just shut down and walk away, feeling guilty much later (Saturn Rx). Then I'm hypersensitive to people doing anything similar to me ("Oh geez, this is Karma for sure.")

I don't, but I've known people who do.
This Leo mars guy, (whose mars is square Pluto, btw), was so painfully shy while talking to me. He went red and spoke his piece and we were both too shy to continue. I wouldn't describe Leo mars as bashful exactly, and having it retrograde at a critical degree might have played a part.
Cafe astrology says, "People born with Saturn retrograde might feel especially anxious or nervous when they are in situations that call for protocol, etiquette, or specific sets of standards and rules."
There might also be trouble with exerting authority outright? One Saturn Rx person I know has a bit of trouble with that. People are always wanting him to be firm and put his foot down, but that's just not his style. I always attributed it to his Mars-Neptune conjunction, but maybe it's also the Saturn Rx?

No 'retrogrades' discussion is complete without me gushing about Mercury Rx people. But I'm gonna have to chew on that for a bit so I can do it justice.

It just occurred to me that both of my parents have Venus retrograde. Their love natures were similar, (they were also in sextile signs), even so, I'd be hard-pressed to explain that one.
P.S. My tenses are all over the place, I know.. Don't worry, you get used to it. Classic Libra confusion expressed on many levels.

Thanks for reminding me of progressions, lumina. So I've had: - Pr Mercury Rx, now it's direct. Pr Mercury Rx or in shadow all my life. In about four years it's finally out of shadow, for the first time ever. Maybe I won't be as tongue-tied. Pr Venus will be on my natal Mercury at the same time. - Pr Mars is currently direct, but so slow. It's only advanced 3°20 past my natal Mars. - Pr Saturn has been Rx all my life, it turns direct about 36 years from now. I wonder if I'll live that long. It's a very, very slow Saturn. If I live to 80 it will have spent most of that time @ 26° or 27° Cancer. Conjunct my draconic moon (28° Cancer). - Pr Uranus turned Rx about ten years ago. - Pr Neptune goes Rx in about 25 years. Like I need that. - Pr Pluto turned Rx the same year my pr Mercury turned Rx, when I was about 8. --- Lots of "keeping it to themselves" with Rx planets. Funny how Saturn Rx functions like Uranus..."In some ways, having Saturn retrograde in the chart tends to function much like a strong Uranus, where the native is uncomfortable with an overly orderly or disciplined life." While Uranus Rx functions like Saturn...."These people might hide their eccentricities, while Uranus direct natives are more inclined to flaunt them, or at least to be proud of them. In some ways, having Uranus retrograde is like having Saturn strong in the chart."

Thanks 12YearsABlob, I love your comments. Looking forward to your Mercury Rx thoughts. How interesting that both your parents have Venus Rx. I think that's a really tough placement to have. This past Rx season (which we aren't even out of yet) gave me a new respect for how difficult it can be. As if life is a series of random blockages that don't even make sense. You did me a real favor highlighting this, or I think I would have glossed over it: "Cafe astrology says, "People born with Saturn retrograde might feel especially anxious or nervous when they are in situations that call for protocol, etiquette, or specific sets of standards and rules."" I think that's enough to make most people stress out, but for me, it was borderline traumatizing. It affected me to the extent that I've dodged as many major institutions as possible in my adult life. Didn't even get a cell phone because of all the legal red tape and fine print that I knew would be everywhere on the device (it's worse than I imagined though). When there are clear rules and I can abide by them, that's actually fairly easy, I mean anyone can do this. Manners. The internet is like total anarchy and my kind of place except "the rule is, there are no rules." That makes me uneasy, too.

I haven’t found rétrogrades to be that bad ... I had a highly neptuniab roommate once who has a retrograde mars in cancer. THAT was rough because of all the Neptune and Saturn and cancer stuff as she also has moon in cancer. Difficulty asserting herself and hiding weakness and unable to grow.
In general tho I’ve found some rétrograde Saturn ppl to be just fine with structures and hierarchy when my 10th direct Saturn on MC isn’t. Maybe iretrograde Saturn is the inability to establish one’s ownership, hence highly adaptable when it comes to being employee. Since highly Saturnian ppl have the opposite problem of unable to accept othwrs’ Standard and thus must learn to have their own.
Now rétrograde outer planets, especially if one has several, is a marker of success in creative careers I should’ve made a list of celebs with these but I’ve noticed over the year that these ppl do just fine.
I myself am a Jupiter retrograde in Virgo in 5th (delibitated) and i don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s too soon to say for now but my Jupiter return was not out of ordinary. So maybe that’s one of the setbacks

To be honest I am not sure I really buy into all that stuff said about retro in natal (though in transits it might be different, because we are made to go through experiences and placements repeatedly, which is not the case in a natal retrograde, unless it turns direct in progressions).
My Dad has Mercury and Venus retro natally, and nothing of that sort happened to him. Dramafree relationship and lovelife, very consistent and stable. Very outspoken and having very strong mental and analytical skills which are not hidden at all!
Nothing of what seems to happen during transiting retogrades, applies to his natal.
He also has Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto retro.
As for myself and my retro Saturn, I am a happy employee as long as I can do my own stuff. So I guess I am a bit of both. Needing an external security/ structure that gives me the possibility to work very independently.

Maybe iretrograde Saturn is the inability to establish one’s ownership... It just seems to take me forever to establish my own personal "structures"....now my pr Saturn is in Cancer so I'm thinking of my home, habits around the home, rules I set for my children. Most people seem to just make a decision and get on with their lives. Their logic is like: A. It's breakfast time. B. I want my kids to eat a healthy breakfast. C. A healthy breakfast is ________. D. Therefore, at breakfast time, I will make them eat that. I haven't even mastered "A." Is it actually breakfast time? Is it better to hold off and eat according to appetite? Isn't eating a very personal thing? I've read books about this. How can I know what their body is craving or even what it's sensitive to? I never wanted breakfast and I wouldn't like it if someone forced me to eat what they put in front of me. "Are you hungry, do you want something?" is my approach. Sometimes I make a big breakfast and everyone can take what they want, if they want it. Buffet style. But then I'm potentially wasting food and time, and cooking meat. What about meat? Is meat okay? When I buy "humanely raised" meat, what's going on there? What exactly does no "added" nitrites mean? ---- You see where I'm going with this, I'm still learning...always feeling like I don't know enough to really get everything done authoritatively and definitively. Pls don't quote

My Dad has Mercury and Venus retro natally, and nothing of that sort happened to him. Dramafree relationship and lovelife, very consistent and stable. Very outspoken and having very strong mental and analytical skills which are not hidden at all! Venus Rx seems the opposite of drama though. As cafeastrology lady says: "When Venus is retrograde at birth, the feeling nature is deep. Socializing is taken seriously, and rarely lightly." My best friend has this, and she's pretty serious. If there's drama, it's because right away she's seeing more deeply into things than her boyfriends (people she's dated over time), and they argue with her and leave....only to realize later that she was right, so they come back for a second chance. This always happens, without exception. The guy always comes back. She doesn't give second chances. Trust was already broken and the feelings don't come back. But she's nice. So these guys from her past (Venus Rx) still hang around as friends, and are asking her out from time to time, thinking there's a chance. She's loyal to a fault, maybe because Venus Rx remembers all the good times from before. She's kept up so many friendships from childhood. But these can also be really burdensome (Venus Rx on her SN, so it's excessively "in the past.") Not me though, I am all sweetness and light. JK Pls don't quote

I have no retro planets and my NN is direct as well. Only have Juno, chiron and ceres of the "major" asteroids.
My son has Pluto, jupiter, neptune, saturn retro. Saturn is his chart ruler in the 12th opposite his sun. He has mars,NN and venus in intercepted signs(mars/venus square his jupiter) but i wonder being in an intercepted sign make that planet kind of retro? I have pallas in an intercepted sign
My bf has mercury rx and it conjuncts his sun...
pls dnt quote

Ava yes... maybe but aren’t you also a Pisces moon. All the Pisces moons I know don’t jive well with schedules. Also mars in Gemini isn’t that into schedules anyway I’m having difficulty pinning down to one aspect or placement when it comes to behaviors described as aspects of retrograde planets. Likr you can say I have wildly different beliefs and lifestyle compared to my family’s because I have a Jupiter in 5th in Virgo in retrograde but .... I’m so a 9th stellium, a sun square Pluto, and pluto in 7th which is known for growing leaps and bounds via relationships. I exhibit Jupiter in 5th traits: creative and enjoying creative projects that are earthly (House decors, architecture), or highly detailed arts. I never had difficulty having a belief ... I’ve always well-read and just like most ppl, adjusted my viewpoints as I get older and more information comes to light. I met someone born 2 days after me with a cancer rising, Taurus moon. She doesn’t really have differing beliefs compared to her environments. My childhood friend, born with an Aries Rising, cap moon (a few days ahead of me) still devout herself to Christianity ... *shrug. Also most Aquarius have some differing views from those of their families any way.

My childhood friend, born with an Aries Rising, cap moon (a few days ahead of me) still devout herself to Christianity ... *shrug. Also most Aquarius have some differing views from those of their families any way. That's true - I often think that's why my draconic Taurus moon didn't come through in that sign in the natal. The natal Aquarius moon was 'picked' (by me, presumably?) so that I would be able to better function in the society where I was born. If I had Taurus moon natally, I wouldn't have broken free, so to speak.
Those underlying draco moon needs of security are in fact better served by the natal Aquarius moon.
And yeah, I've seen Cap moons stick to things like that too. They're more apt to get married (early-ish) than Taurus moons though, just an observation. Insanely steady follow-through. Cap moons expect marriage (and Life) to be hard, so they're not easily put off by all the work that goes into a marriage.

I have Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto retrograde in my natal. I liked the initial description of a retrograde planet, so far as the energy is internalized more. The individual descriptions didn't resonate with me as much, similar to lumina, I'm also pretty content with work and supervisors as long as I find them to be competent and fair. Authority on a larger scale is a bit different, but I'm not interested in breaking the law at this point in my life, lol. I'm also not keen on people telling me what to do or how to do it, unless it relates directly to something I'm doing for them. But my Rx Pluto and Saturn are also square to one another, so that adds to it. I do internalize guilt and resentment over every little detail of every interaction, and the description of feeling guilty over wanting to fulfill duties and obligations rings true for me.

Now rétrograde outer planets, especially if one has several, is a marker of success in creative careers I should’ve made a list of celebs with these but I’ve noticed over the year that these ppl do just fine. Btw, they are fairly common too, I suppose? They're still significant, of course, but it happens more often than we'd think. For instance, outer planets opposite the Sun are always retrograde the month before and after(?) I remember reading that somewhere, will post the link if I find it.
Since Mars only occupies one sign for about two months (approx), it is likely to be in a sign quincunx the Sun when retrograde. Unless you catch it at either end of its cycle (for instance, a retrograde Mars at 29° would be in a sign opposite the Sun).

12YearsABlob I wasn’t being very clear. When you see someone with several: uranus/Pluto/Neptune/ Saturn all at once. That was what I meant. And yes single placements are common. My cap moon little cousin has a retro Saturn and he is more orderly than most adults. *shrug*

I keep meaning to respond to this thread. I just don't seem to get enough moments to get a thought in right now. Probably should check the transits...
Anyway, I have 3 Rx planets, all in water. Neptune Rx in Scorpio, Saturn sRx in Pisces, and Venus Rx in cancer.
Saturn sRx does feel like a Uranus influence to some extent. Then again, it's opposite Uranus in my chart, both square Mercury, so it's a little hard to sort out. I don't like surprises to my plans. Yet, I try to not make plans because when I do, they always get changed. My management style has evolved to "If you don't know what choice to make, then don't make any because you haven't got all the information yet".
Venus Rx is the one I spend a fair amount of time trying to understand. I could probably write a book on it by now, yet I don't know if I've learned "the answer" yet. You mentioned someone with it conjunct the SN. Mine is conjunct NN, trine Saturn and my Asc. It's 1° past my 9th house cusp, so I've spent about 50 years with it progressing through my 8th. What a long strange road it's been...

geminiblues"If you don't know what choice to make, then don't make any because you haven't got all the information yet"." It's probably a combination of my Cap Mars and Saturn Rx in Cancer going "YES, THIS."
