I don't meditate with the intention of meditate. But I do seem to fall into meditative states.
This usually happens if I take a nap in the afternoon, around twilight. It kinda makes no sense to take a nap then, as it will keep me up later....however sometimes I sleep poorly at night and have no choice but to rest in the afternoon.
Anyway, yesterday was one of those days. I was lying in bed in this halfway state between awake and asleep. Now, unexpectedly and oddly....I started to see the eye of an Asian woman staring at me. This is nothing I imagined by choice, it just happened spontaneously. In fact I tried to shut it down because it was such a startling experience, but instead most of her face came into view.
Not sure what that means. I've heard of seeing our past life selves in a manner like this...you see them in a meditation, staring at you. You realize, they ARE you. But I didn't quite get that sense that she is me. She had really beautiful skin, couldn't believe how perfect it was.
It sort of matches another experience I had, while living at the country and staring at a magnificent sunset, for a moment I thought I felt the presence of an old, Asian man standing behind me, with his hand on my back. Could've been a figment of my imagination of course. But when I don't consciously intend for something to happen, it really makes me wonder, when it seems to arise out of nowhere.
Maybe I've had a past life in Asia.
Maybe I should make it a habit to meditate at sunset.
----
Anyway... I'm inquiring about the unusual and unexpected things that people see in meditation, if anyone feels like sharing.

That is really something, Faith! Especially the eye -- wow. Yeah, it might be a past life thing... Could be - if the vibe says so. Recently, I had a confusing vision/dream. I dunno if I was meditating or half-asleep. Some kind of trance. I suppose it's more of a dream than a meditative vision. But it's recent, and *felt* like something one would see in a meditation, you know?
This afternoon, I was trying to meditate (i.e. trying to relax) and all of a sudden, the nativity scene flashed before my eyes. You know I'm not religious per se. Haven't been thinking about it either - 'tis certainly *not* the season for nativity scenes, no matter how much I love Christmas.
The three wise men were bringing me gifts. I wasn't (physically) there - but somehow, I knew they were for me. Just the way dreams work, eh? They were all symbols of something - as if they were giving me something I needed, or would have. (How would you picture 'courage' as a gift? 'Twas along those lines). They were all abstract, intangible things - but the trouble is, I don't remember what they were. There was an important message there and I almost had it for a moment. That moment in limbo, between sleeping and waking life. It slipped away before I could get a hold of it.
*** Some of the dreams I have, have these strange apparitions - or non-apparitions, just a *presence*. They give me advice, or guidance of some sort. Often, in very clear, full sentences. I used to write them down. Will come back here and post if I find any. Perhaps it's just the subconscious telling you things your waking mind is too 'busy' to take.
I realize you're talking about visions in meditation - and I'm talkin' about dreams.. However, for me, these are usually connected to meditation, in that they often answer what I've been seeking during meditation that day. Meditation seems to create the *space*, or the added receptivity that my mind needs to access and comprehend these 'insights'. Like turning the volume down on everything else - so you can tune into that one channel on the radio. No scratchy reception or static.

I don't meditate with the intention of meditate. But I do seem to fall into meditative states. Yeah, I know what you mean... This happens to me - usually when I'm doing something else. I only realize after it's passed. But it's bliss - to lose yourself in something, or *nothing*, so completely that time ceases to exist. Some 'activities' are particularly conducive to a meditative state.

Thanks 12YearsABlob ! I don't want to chop your posts into pieces (quotes) because I like the way they flow, all intact. But thanks for these brilliant observations. I love how you hit the nail right on the head. That seems so reassuring and strengthening, about the three wise men and their abstract gifts. I had actually been thinking of the three wise men earlier today, as I painted my fingernails with frankincense oil (for nail strength...and the oil has a spiritual effect, according to oil literature and my own casual testing). I was thinking of how I like gold & frankincense but have had no dealings with myrrh, it played a supporting role in some of my tooth products, that's all. Anyway... Dreams and meditations, they are similar, and who's to say what's even happening with the brain waves while we are not fully conscious? It just occurred to me...is it possible to move from dreaming into meditation, while asleep...and if so, could that explain the added realness of certain dreams? "Some of the dreams I have, have these strange apparitions - or non-apparitions, just a *presence*. They give me advice, or guidance of some sort. Often, in very clear, full sentences." *jawdrop* *long pause................................* How wonderful!!! Do you ever think, they could possibly be your spirit guides, or angels? I'd love to see any examples of that advice, if it's convenient and comfortable to share. I've had breakthroughs that may be similar, where it's just not seeming like a dream anymore, I'm real, and me, and more like on another plane of existence. The way people describe NDE afterlife as ultra-vivid, hyper-real, that kind of thing...I don't know what to call that dimension or that state. I seldom go there. But to call it "lucid dreaming" doesn't do it justice. In a lucid dream, I would be consciously controlling things. And I usually have some control over my dreams. But this other type of experience feels like I'm genuinely interacting with phenomena outside of myself. "Perhaps it's just the subconscious telling you things your waking mind is too 'busy' to take." Yes. Well I try to never underestimate the subconscious. But then, life is such a mystery, I think weird stuff can come from any direction. Especially for those of us who WANT to attract it to ourselves.

Hey, thanks Ava ! So glad you can relate...
"Dreams and meditations, they are similar, and who's to say what's even happening with the brain waves while we are not fully conscious? It just occurred to me...is it possible to move from dreaming into meditation, while asleep...and if so, could that explain the added realness of certain dreams?" ^Omg yes. While most dreams might feel just as real - there is something different about a dream-meditation (if I can call it that). It's another dimension for sure. We need a word for that. Any ideas?
"Do you ever think, they could possibly be your spirit guides, or angels?" Yeah, I'd like to think so. What always gets me is - the overwhelming sense of peace that comes with such a message. Whether it's our own subconscious, or the spirit guides themselves - I'll take what I can get. It's nice to feel some kind of guidance, wherever it's coming from.
"I've had breakthroughs that may be similar, where it's just not seeming like a dream anymore, I'm real, and me, and more like on another plane of existence. The way people describe NDE afterlife as ultra-vivid, hyper-real, that kind of thing...I don't know what to call that dimension or that state. I seldom go there. " That sounds really interesting! Could you share some examples here, if you don't mind?
P.S. Yeah, lucid dreams are a whole nuther ball game. You can probably tell when it's a lucid dream, orchestrated by your own skull captain, and when it's something else entirely, right?
P.P.S. I didn't know you could paint nails with frankincense. Must smell heavenly.

Hey there 12YearsABlob , "While most dreams might feel just as real - there is something different about a dream-meditation (if I can call it that). It's another dimension for sure. We need a word for that. Any ideas?" Ascension? Or does that sound too self-congratulatory? haha I don't know... For me, hyper-real means, it makes my regular "real" life look like the actual dream. Sort of like how, sometimes when I close my eyes tight and cover them, I see colors that are so bright and clear, they seem alive and ensouled. By comparison, regular earthly color looks like a replica. The eyes-closed colors seem like the archetype or quintessence...the higher colors. And with these dreams/meditations, meaning stands out as a higher Truth, in a similar way. It's unclouded, stripped to the bare, primal pureness. The Asian woman I described in my OP, her skin wasn't just skin. Everything about it was infinitely meaningful, as if I could see all the world coming together in her DNA, and she glowed in a certain way...not an aura, with color...but vibrancy that was almost heartbreaking. It was from another time, a lost time. "What always gets me is - the overwhelming sense of peace that comes with such a message." <3 I know what you mean. "Could you share some examples here, if you don't mind?" Hmm, as I said, it seldom happens. I've probably already told you all the examples I keep in memory, without emphasizing the hyper-realness. Though if I looked through my journals I could probably find more that I've forgotten. And there are moments in dreams that seem to rise up out of the dream, like those magic-eye pictures, and become more 3-D. Also I had a thread at LL called "Healing Dreams"...and I had one of these the night before last. Possibly it's just a case where my body fixes itself in my sleep and provides a dream to go along with the biological story. But even that -- the fact that my body fixes itself, seems like Higher Mind at work, or an intervention from outside myself. I don't know why my excruciating backache suddenly disappeared in my sleep. Symbolically, the dream matched the pain (fire in the dream, inflammation in my back.) There was a moment where I released myself from guilt, and moreover felt a *boost* then, like divine assistance, and I felt euphoria. I wonder if that was also the moment my back recovered. I hadn't been aware of any guilt, so I don't know if the backache was a mind-body manifestation of guilt to begin with. But probably. 12H Saturn...I don't consciously keep track of all its business...which probably adds to the number of things it feels guilty about. I'm off topic, hope no one minds. "skull captain" ROFL

<3 I love reading your descriptions.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I too have 12H Saturn (considering both of our father figures, pretty apt). Mine has many aspects in the natal chart - so it's very *present* in everyday life. So, I am intensely aware of the guilt. What's nebulous is the *source* of those misgivings (which is one of the things I try to meditate about...the "why?").
I haven't seen the 'healing dreams' thread on LL. Thanks for mentioning it - will take a look. " There was a moment where I released myself from guilt, and moreover felt a *boost* then, like divine assistance, and I felt euphoria." ^ Yeah, that's the beauty of it! The higher mind, or subconscious or whatever we choose to call it - assisting us in times of need. Like your subconscious *knew* you needed a boost. And it was time to get involved in our plane of existence.
Backaches are a biyatch. Good riddance. Miraculous too, it happened overnight.
Thanks for sharing that. Nice having this thread here! We can read about these dreams as & when they happen. <3 Or if you stumble across an old journal and find something you'd like to share.

Sorry I don't have much to add right this moment (I feel like I've already talked a lot about stuff I've seen or picked up on anyway). I love the thread, just trying to stay off the internet a bit. 💖

Just to add an instance about healing in meditation:
This occurred when I was with my mother in her last days. I stayed up most of the night in a meditative state holding her hands and sending her healing. She was in pain and it appeared that if I held her hands she became calmer and slept. I felt very close to her and felt blessed by her love. Next morning i noticed that an arthritic pain in my wrist had disappeared. I felt that she had healed me. The pain never came back and this happened over two years ago.

That is fantastic @astrokeen! A long time ago I heard of this idea....that souls departing have a special power to bless/fix their loved ones. This may have been in one of Rachel Remen's books. She's a doctor who works with the terminally ill and their families. Even if that's not the case universally...still amazing that you and your mother had that effect on each other. <3 --- VioletsTotally understandable, & thanks. <3 --- 12YearsABlob"I too have 12H Saturn (considering both of our father figures, pretty apt)." True. <3 "Thanks for sharing that. Nice having this thread here! Open thread, post all "altered consciousness" type stuff, at your pleasure. I gave you all hearts, they were necessary here.
