What are some things you observe about the signs that go against the cookbook profiles? Applies for people with Sun, Moon, Rising, etc. in the sign. Here are some of mine:
Aries is not as courageous as they'd like you to think. Sometimes, they are just all talk or they back down surprisingly easily. Aries is the sign that "starts things" but doesn't really finish them. So, they would often prefer to just shoot off at the mouth about something than to actually have to do it. But, life usually forces them into it. They're fighters because they usually have to be, after getting themselves into some sort of mess and being forced to survive, not because they want to be.
Taurus sometimes makes no sense, especially the men. I can't lie, though, because I did get this from the Sextrology book. But, it's really true. I knew a Taurus Rising man who would talk in circles and say vague things and I'd often not know what he was talking about. Taurus is so self-indulgent and, admittedly, narrow-minded that they only see things the way they like to see them, in spite of being so practical and sensible. So, it can be hard to understand what they mean because their thinking is so particular to them.
Virgo can lack a strong sense of self. That need for perfection or to reach a high standard is so strong that they can put a lot of effort into being who they think they should be, instead of being who they actually are. In this way, they're similar to Pisces but Virgo's chameleon energy is more calculated and more intentional, sort of like an actor preparing for a role. They have to go through a lot of different selves and personalities before they can be okay with themselves.
Aquarius usually has to grow into its very friendly, social side. Early in life, people with Aquarius energy are often the opposite, to the point where it seems or is problematic: really reserved, shy, socially awkward/anxious, etc. Many have very few, if any, friends at some point growing up. Thanks to the combination of Saturn and Uranus' rulership, it's not until adulthood that the ability to know everyone and make lots of friends successfully develops. But, the painful social life of the past still haunts them and instills a very introverted side that some may not suspect (I say this all from personal experience, as well, as an Aquarius Rising).

Aries (a sign I love dearly) is very prone to emotional manipulation. They like to provoke strong responses in others - if someone engages them in a cool, level-headed way, it bothers them. A sign that's similar in this way is Cancer. They need reactions, they need to know where they stand with someone - if they don't have that, they throw insane tantrums and want you to "prove" that you like/love them with a strong reaction. Taurus holds onto grudges for a very, very long time. They can act out in passive aggressive spite. Taurus is usually seen as stubborn and fairly placid, but they (we, I should say) can be petty. Also difficult for this sign to accept jokes at their expense. High level of pride. Gemini is not a malicious sign. In fact, I'd say they have a high level of maturity that's so unconventional that most people just assume that they're flighty and rude. They don't really impose much on an individual and expect that level of fun airiness back. Cancer is one of the funniest signs at their best. Very good conversationalists, witty, and have great voices. Can dress someone down verbally in the most succinct and classy way. Leo.. not sure. This is the sign of my SN so I find Leos very mysterious. Don't have any insights on them sadly. Virgos are extremely hard on themselves a la Capricorn. Their critiques generally come from a place of love because critiquing is the Virgo internal monologue at all times. They take criticism well and assume everyone else does. They find minutiae utterly fascinating. Much like Gemini, they are rarely ever intentionally malicious. Libra.. man where do I start with this sign. If I ever meet someone with a mid-Libra placement they form a grand cross with my natal and it usually gets ugly so fast. They so badly want to be liked, yet they so badly want to always have the most interesting conversational tidbits. Often times interesting conversation clashes with everyone thinking fondly of them and when this realization hits, they backpedal in the most baffling way on all their opinions in order to be liked again. Libras are very brainy and interesting, but usually "objectively likable people" don't have that much depth - "objectively likable people" are neutral, passive, sweet, the most common denominator of person. So in a way Libra is always undermining and suffocating itself in order to appease others. Scorpio.. I don't know! They are very gooey and loving folks deep down inside. Their spooky facade is so goofy and contrived I wish they would just knock it off and be themselves. But I understand the need for defenses in a world that is callous, particularly when one has such a rich inner live as a Scorpionic person. This is a basic stereotype about them I guess but it is what I noticed about these folks. Sagittarius - Actually extremely clingy, extremely insecure, very loving, very adoring. They're iconoclasts but they also love to have a pack/squad/tight knit circle. I think low functioning Sagittarius' are those without a tribe to help ground them. I find them to be incredibly consistent and loyal when you let them be themselves. Capricorn - Wow, where to begin with Cap. So fucking misunderstood its a crime. Every Cap I've met has been so anti-establishment, so anti-capitalism/consumerism, loathe surface beauty and anything that doesn't evoke the hard reality of life. Much like Virgo, they're a sign that constantly works against themselves internally. They've observed so much grim shit that they are bar none the funniest sign when it comes to even a basic, simple observation. Most ADORE their mothers and actually have a complex relationship with their father that is tempered with the utmost respect. Simply by being themselves they're thrust into incredible positions of leadership and wear the role reluctantly.. yet do such a good job just by the nature of being who they are (sturdy/selfless/future-thinking and past-minded). Have a great eye for beauty in all forms. Pisces- Great conversationalists. I don't find them flighty at ALL but I have such a Neptunian chart maybe I'm just the same way and enjoy their flow. I think so much can be said about Pisces that's multifaceted and great I probably have nothing new to add to the conversation here

I prefer not to evoke strong reactions, but that's just me. I accidentally set someone off the other night, and I was really upset about it. It stresses me out (and made my dizzy spells worse). I prefer the level-headed approach. Even better if it can be broached with good humour.
Really not a fan of emotional manipulation. Bravery depends on the situation. I said before, I've put out a spreading fire - ran towards it - but the dentist, or driving. Sod that.
I'm not good at coming up with lists like this, but will think about it, when it comes to those I know. My Capps sister isn't rich, and she married a guy who has no money to speak of. Taurean dad wants nothing to do with farming. He likes a simple life, and that includes buying food, not being responsible for its production.

Pisces, especially pisces sun and rising are pretty much the aquarius of water sign. If there is a rule or line drawn somewhere, they will have to cross it, just because. And unlike aquarius who sit and mull and finally decide to make a point, Pisceans literally would just not do things people do daily (virgo rules the 6th). So if the rest of the world get up and go to work and Pisces just feel like you are not "at their level" of "higher" understanding, they just won't bother to go. In their minds, they are above these actions. And every single pisces has a raging side. That's another side of neptune. It's not this soft, cozy planet, it's delusion of grandeur. And ruled by both Neptune and Jupiter, pisceans can get very dogmatic and when they rage at you, they will literally go on a speech for a good few hours about what a piece of crap you are.
A lot of scorpios would not do something because they do not want to expose the fact that they are actually weaker than they appear. So many of them stay stuck in hopeless situations because venturing to a new territory requires them to eat a humble pie and work their way up. Actually, many scorpios are just all talk and no actions, and a lot of them still mull over the tiniest "trauma" that happened 20 years ago and cling on that as an excuse for their lack of actions.
Libra is another very misunderstood sign. I really don't like the fact that people think the opposite of venus is mars. The opposite of venus is venus. The opposite of building relationship is breaking it down, not aggression or asserting yourself. Any way, every single Libra i've met is a fighter, they fight hard for what they want and they wouldn't care if they have to use the most subversive tactics. And if they don't get what they want, then they blow up the whole relationships itself. They won't just walk away. They will burn bridges, and sometimes preemptively so. Case in point, Vladimir Putin's strategy is getting bigger by invading Ukraine while also breaking other countries down by supporting their succession movements. Russia literally funds the succession movement in Texas, California, even Iraq. Another thing is Libra is never confused. They are patient in sorting things out, but every single of them is crystal clear about what they want, and they are very quick with assessing who you are, what you say and what the truth is. Even the most stupid libra I've met sort out exactly what I say, and as a taurus rising I am not the most upfront about my opinion about someone. All libras want is getting what they want and being likeable. They do not need the credits. Whether people know Libras are the ones pulling strings in the back scene is not important to Libra. That's an Aries thing.
Gemini is also not two faced. As you all know by now, I've been watching the Sunny Side on youtube and he's a gem rising
Any way, geminis see many layers to any issue. It's not like Libra where there is a decision to make and you are taking an aim at making the right decision. And geminis tend to think everyone else is an idiot, just like virgo (it's a mercury thing). So... they just think that you do not see all the layers they see, and a lot of time they stir up the pot just to see what you can see. This is what Chris Evans, a gem, has to say about Jenny Slate, his ex: "She's the best. I've never ever ever met someone in my life who has a mastery of the English language the way she does. She'll give you one sentence and there's no fat to it. You're like, 'You just chose such an unbelievable collection of words that beautifully articulate what you say.' Which IMO is a clear sign here. Gems usually just think people do not see things as clearly, with as many details and layers and possibilities as they do. And when they find someone who see what they see, they will stick with that person for life.

My son has a progressed Gem ASC, and last night he said something almost exactly like that.
--- Just came to say, I see Cancer as a home-repair sign, and that only makes sense, if they're the keepers of the home....but people tend to not talk about just how much work these people are willing to do for their homes, how gifted they can be. So they tend to be adept at cabinet-making, plumbing/wiring, remodeling, plastering, installing complicated lighting, etc. The men (and women!) can be very stereotypically manly in that sense.
My father-in-law and brother-in-law (his son) have their suns conjunct my husband's ASC in Cancer. We used to go out for lunch and all these guys would talk about construction most of the time. "What kind of wiring did you use for that?" and "You know, the best wood for that is...." All three are/were very accomplished in this field.
I was hoping my sons would take after them but so far only my Cancer son has the interest and motivation. He's got a full toolbox with adult tools and he looks for opportunities to use them, and he's not playing, he does it right. He's 9.

Virgo is really picky about music and tend to go for safe stuff like pop or country or soft rock they can be a bit precious about stuff generally too. Ava my dad is a cancer moon. he is really good at DIY but he hates it being a Sag sun and venus! Gemini talks too much, wherever it is in the chart and so do fire risings in my opinion. I do agree that Taurus witters too and often gets confused in the direction they are taking their argument. Its really hard for me to explain stuff, get stuff out of my head and into speech haha. Sorry :/

Taurus is very body-conscious. This stereotype about them loving food, I think it's true, but they also know how to stay fit. The men seem to fall into two categories: wiry and intellectual (John Oliver, Stephen Colbert), or bodybuilders (Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, John Cena, and others.) www.thefamouspeople.com/taurus-men.phpThe women seem more prone to gaining weight or fluctuating. I've never known a Taurus woman who was overweight, who didn't lose all the weight at some point. My Taurus childhood friend put on a lot of weight after having children, did yoga to get the weight off, and now she makes a living as a yoga instructor.

Come to think of it, I have a Taurus SN, Taurus draconic sun, and I am very body-conscious. For someone as spaced out and lazy as myself, the one thing I'm consistent about is keeping fit.

Ava thats interesting! I am body conscious but I do nothing about it haha. I havent the patience with diets and stuff but I am putting weight on at the moment and I hate how my body is changing My other Taurus friends...well, I'm not sure. We are all indulgent in some way though, one in drinking and relationships, me with drinking and food haha. The other one from childhood was a sweets addict. One I worked with over summer= sex and drinking and smoking. But this is stereotypical. I was thinking earlier how I don't think, apart from the childhood friend, many Taureans that I know are actually stubborn. I certainly am not. I think Taurus is able to be quite flexible and willing to see things from other peoples perspectives in order to be fair actually. But then again, I suppose to some people, perhaps we are! I think stubborness has been badly defined though, and gets mixed up a lot with self belief or something like that. To me, air signs can be the definition of stubborn, especially Gemini and Aquarius presumably because they are very cerebral anyway and consider themselves to have thought things through properly and objectively therefore they are right. Not to offend anyone, but the ones I know will not budge on things. I cant think of many non stereotypical things about any of the signs though because everyone to be acts loads like their sun sign, the ones I meet in person. I've noticed that Scorpio ladies have a very sweet persona, very opposite the stereotype. Sometimes prone to depression and anxiety though unless there is more fire in the chart.

FruityLlama, Taurus is mysterious....it equates somewhat with the Chinese sign of Snake, the most perceptive and witchy sign of all. And similar to what the89freespirit was saying, it can be hard to know what a Taurus is thinking. So it's hard to know what angle to take to persuade them of something....maybe that's how they get the reputation for being stubborn? Sometimes they want to do their own thing and not explain to anyone. That can be exasperating, the lack of negotiation. I see stubbornness in all the signs, though.

FruityLlama I also noticed the Scorpio Sun be very sweet and caring. My husbands female part of the family are mostly Scorpio, and they are just some of the nicest people. I also made friends with one Scorpio girl in the past few years, she's so nice and friendly, and caring and attentive. I really have mostly positive experiences with Scorpios, they my large portion outweigh the negatives, so it's not even worth mentioning

This may not be obvious online, more in person...
When a Cap sun wants to make a point, they can stick with it way too long. They might realize that and try to change their angle, but they are still making the same point. So it just gets awkward as they try and dig themselves out of a hole.
Or they are just repetitive and after the talk show host has moved on to another topic, the Cap sun cannot let the former topic go. They might even cycle through several topics and the Cap *still* wants to focus on that one thing from before.
I've seen enough Cap interviews that now I know, "Okay, I'm not the only one who does that." And I always feel bad after I do it, like they probably do, if they watch themselves afterwards or sit with their feeling of discontent, that they never did succeed in making a strong point or favorable impression with it. It was more like a mental rut or obsession of some type, exhibiting itself.
