Inspired by anela's salad thread. Do you drink smoothies? --- Here are the two I make most often: 1) Christian's Smoothie (named for my son who drinks this all the time) Small handful raw almonds water ice 1 banana 1 orange Enough frozen raspberries to make it a pretty color 1 tablespoon coconut oil 1 tablespoon raw agave nectar 1 teaspoon vanilla I put any leftovers in popsicle molds. 2) Hot Pink Smoothie, my current lunch, many days... I change it up a bit: Half a peeled beet, one peeled carrot, one orange, small handful raw cashews, packaged coconut water (usually), frozen red berries, coconut oil, agave.

I do, sometimes, and should drink them every day. I sometimes have trouble with them, though (stomach condition).
I like the Green Goddess from Earth Fare, which is made up of apple juice, strawberries, banana, kale, and spirulina. I think I mentioned that before. I've tried making my own at home, so it costs less, but I've barely made them all summer, when I'd intended to mainly live on juice, smoothies, and soup.
I like Jason Vale juice and smoothies. He uses a lot of apples, pineapple, etc.
Also: 2 grapefruits, five carrots, and about one inch of ginger (juice).
I'm about to make a smoothie with a protein powder, and some cashew milk + a banana and some flax oil.

Sorry for the delay, anela ! So you buy smoothies? I think I've had some weird resistance to commercial smoothies, I've never bought one. I don't mean to sound critical, but I have looked at people in bewilderment as they pulled these from the fridge at the store. Once I ran into a friend who was buying a lot of green ones, to fast with. I had to consciously try not to look at her cart in wide-eyed astonishment. The other day I went to this new Smoothie King down the road and got a Pumpkin Spice smoothie... it tasted like canned pumpkin pie mix with some syrups and sugar. I'm not picky about food by nature (Taurus SN) but I'll never go there again, I can make cheaper, fresher, better stuff at home. I guess I'm a smoothie snob. I didn't even realize.

Funny you should bump this - I've been drinking a Jason Vale smoothie: one cup (about that) of apple juice (two apples juiced), two handfuls of mixed berries, 2 tablespoons of seeds (flax, chia, hemp, etc), 2 tablespoons of yogurt, 1/2 a banana (I use a whole one). Blend it all together.

That looks good....I'd have to tweak it, according to some of my digestives needs and sensitivities.
Have you ever looked into Ayurvedic doshas? I'm Vata-Kapha...if I'm in a Kapha slump, apples lift me out. If I'm in a Vata condition, apples make me nervous. It's crazy but I am careful about apples.
An acquaintance of mine had a popular natural living blog with sponsors, but I see she went broke and the blog is down. Hazards of trying to live out in the sticks, where the economy is dead. Anyway, this is her
Apple Dapple Smoothie: 🍎
ice 1 Fuji apple "super milk" -- nuts and seeds that convert to unstrained milk when Vita-Mixed...I just use almonds vanilla A spoonful raw honey A spoonful almond butter Goji berries for pinkness Cinnamon
She had this mesmerizing article about drinking this in winter, how it hit the spot and invigorated her, and though I'm allergic to cold, I'm also a Pisces moon, easily hypnotized....so I copy her. The heavier fat content offsets the apple.

I need to buy a blender. Since moving back to Europe I didn't have a single smoothie. I used to have them almost daily when I lived in Brazil. I'd ususally blend in whatever fruits were there. Things would go off fast because of the heat, so I tried to use up everything. The most used ingredient was bananas. Sometimes I'd just blend them with water and sugarcane sugar. I don't know if I can call it a smoothie if I don't use milk, which I don't like. My other recipes are quite basic, like bananas+avocado, bananas+papaya, papaya+coconut flakes... Mangos mangos mangos. I'd add them a lot too since it's my fav fruit. Basically, I'd just mix a lot of fruits together. All the other ingredients are either impossible to find or extremely expensive (ex. almond milk was around 10 dollars)
I think I'll buy a blender next week or so. I can't wait to try all the recipes you've posted here.

midnightYour post makes me hungry for travel! I don't put milk in my smoothies, either. I love mangos, too! Lately I've been making smoothies with Brazil Nuts because I heard one Brazil Nut contains your daily dose of selenium. draxe.com/brazil-nuts/
