I used to buy a really nice combination of Ashwagandha and Shatavari in capsule form, and they worked really well for a good balance. I have some separate, but I really prefer the mixture I used to buy (but I forgot the brand!).

Violets I was just reading about those! I had never heard of Shatavari before, or wasn't paying attention if I did, so it's funny you mention it. I was reading about the main herb for each Ayurvedic dosha: Ashwagandha for Vata, Shatavari for Pitta, Haritaki for Kapha. I'm Kapha-Vata, I think. Thin person with a slow temperament and thick hair. Ashwagandha is particularly beneficial for Vata types as it calms the nervous system and helps focus the mind. It is frequently prescribed for people who complain of fatigue, have difficulty concentrating, or feel “ungrounded”—all symptoms of Vata imbalance.www.chopra.com/articles/calming-herbs-to-balance-your-vata-dosha#sm.001dukc5t19dgd72r021kmgthpux3

I've only read sporadically about the different Ayurvedic doshas, and still can't really find where I "fit" with that. I found the combination when I lived in the city and had a really nice local, natural health store, lol. I had done some studying, and was looking for something to calm my nerves but not make me drowsy. Maybe I'll get around to looking more into the doshas to see which one fits me the most. A combo, I'm sure. The history of the herbs is interesting (I believe Ashwagandha was used for men to enhance testosterone or something to that effect, and likewise for Shatavari for women, to enhance and balance hormones...or something like that, I forget now). I haven't taken any for a long while, since I can't find the combination anywhere now (even online, for some reason). Now I mostly look to Holy Basil and Skullcap for relaxation/stress, but they also make me sleepy. Eh. I like growing lemon balm and begging lavender from my family, and making tea with those two. Heh.

I'm thinking about ordering some of this, or going with the SAM-e that I used to get, although that's $20 more. I should have just ordered that back in the Spring. It might have got me through, instead I have had the occasional good days or week, but not much. I've put an ashwaganda tincture in my amazon cart, but not hit the order button yet. The reason I thought about it, was because I read a review from someone, saying their son took some, and was able to sit and read a book for two hours. I have such trouble doing that now, when I could read for hours when I was younger.
As I said in another thread, I think my hormones were better this past month, but now I'm really crying a lot, which might be PMS. I felt better physically, had more energy, etc, and that might be down to the colloidal minerals I've been taking. I don't know. But I'm obsessing over the fact that I've missed out on most of the Spring and Summer. I'm hating being in this living room and house, and I always end up being up all night, which I hate unless I feel okay (and if it's rare, which it never is, anymore). I need *something*.

anelaIn my experience, SAM-e could dispel a feeling of inner darkness and rattled nerves. I trust it. I've never tried Ashwanganda for the same purpose. I associate it more with a sense of well-being, taking me from normal to better than average. I haven't considered that it may have curative effects, when someone is already feeling low. It's something to look into. Hope you feel better <3

I haven't ordered anything for myself yet, but I'm thinking about ordering something for my dog, that includes ashwaghanda. Since it supposedly fights cancer. The only trouble is, two of the ingredients lower blood pressure, and I don't know what my dog's is like.
