Violet leaf tea for lung/throat?

Has anyone tried this? I love eating wild violets (that probably looks weird to read), but I've never tried to make tea with the leaves. My mom has serious lung/asthma issues, and always has. I worry more about her as she's getting older, and she has a sore throat today, which isn't normal for her--although she's been around kids a lot more this year, and they've all been sick with various colds.

I've also read that Native Americans used them to treat cancer.

Anyone had luck with making tea with the leaves for asthma symptoms or colds/sore throats?
