The news of floods in Pakistan is truly horrendous. A third of the country is flooded and 33 million people are affected. It is said to be the worst climate disaster so far. How can any country care for its hungry and homeless in these conditions? Aid, even when there is some, can't reach many people because roads and bridges have been washed away.
Conditions in Pakistan right now are what many countries are likely to face as the climate continues to change. Does it not seem contrary to all sense that some countries choose to go to war or deny basic rights to their people when nature promises to be the biggest threat that will spare no one? Even more contrary is that the fossil fuel industry continues to operate unchecked, people drive around in SUVs, and those with money treat the world as their own pleasure island.
Strangely enough, it didn't get a mention by the New York Times in their daily news feed. Other minor news and, of course, Ukraine was mentioned instead.

Strangely enough, it didn't get a mention by the New York Times in their daily news feed. The US media is very much focused on this country and its interests and can seem almost xenophobic at times, not with outright bigotry, but with its failure to report on topics of global importance. Here's hoping relief comes quickly for the Pakistanis.
