I ran a cotton bag printing stall at the Oxford Botanic Garden organised to celebrate its 400th anniversary. People were really interested and lots of men tried printing too. We use homemade beetroot red and mixed turmeric with indigo to create green. The picture below shows the queues. Attachments:

That's really interesting. I've never seen it done in person. Do you have any photos of the printed items?

I forgot to mention that the printing was done with wooden printing blocks from India. So it is a matter of applying the dye on the blocks either with brushes or by pressing the blocks onto a stamp pad before printing on cloth. I've used these printing blocks to make cards or print patterns on household items. Will post a picture of a lampshade. Here are some examples of blocks:
