Names for the Minor 24th Harmonic Aspects

Disagreeing with Noel Tyl and his followers about the 11/24th Harmonic aspect 165° being referred to as Quindecile as well as reading that the 1/15th Harmonic aspect 24° was referred to as Quindecile which was claimed to be invented by Johannes Kepler in the book, Textbook Astrology written by Alfred Pearce and published in 1879 which was definitely before Noel Tyl was born,



I decided to label the minor 24th harmonic aspects

the following:



Vinginquartile for the the 1/24th Harmonic aspect 15° 

QuinqueVinginquartile for the for the 5/24th Harmonic aspect 75° 

SeptVinginquartile for the for the 7/24th Harmonic aspect 105°

UndeciVinginquartile for the 11/24th Harmonic aspect 165° 



This is based off of the Latin word for 24 is vīgintī quattuor



I was checking out Latin words for numbers

and being well familiar with the Harmonics of astrological aspects,

6th harmonic aspect is known as the sextile (60°)

I have a 24th Harmonic Irregular Pentagon consisting of Mercury, Saturn and Pluto's fellow transneptunian dwarf planet/candidates Gonggong, Quaoar, Sedna.

All aspects are within the 24th harmonic proportionate orb of 38 minutes which is based off 15 degree orb for Conjunction.

I first learned about the names Squile for the 75° 5/24, Squine for the 105° 7/24, and Johndro for the 165° 11/24 from read about Zane Stein's descriptions of them over 13 years ago.
Of course, I proposed the term Viginquartile for the 24th harmonic series of aspects.
Squile is in between a Sextile and Square. Squine is between Square and Trine.

I suspect that the astrological community would find Harmonic Astrology easier to use if aspects were referred to as divisions-of-the-circle, rather than given names.

1/24th : 2/24ths : 3/24ths : etc is (for me) easier to comprehend than is Vinginquartile : Semisextile : Semisquare : etc.

Moreover, my guess is that most astrologers will want them to be given a meaning/interpretation rather than a name - and you are very close on this thread to being able to do that for the 24th Harmonic Aspect.

I think it's a smart idea to have standardized names for these minor aspects, but find the names above a little unwieldy. Is there a way to shorten them more?

I have an irregular quadrilateral made of a square (6/24), sextile (4/24), quincunx (10/24), semisquare (3/24), squine (7/24) and 11/24.

These form a stellium spanning exactly 10° in the 24th harmonic chart, assuming that orb is acceptable.

I can be pretty determined but the hard aspects underlying that stellium represent actual problems, like Mars semisquare 12H Saturn throws up resistance against doing the most basic things sometimes.

But ... Moon influences the 24H stellium - because (in the 24H chart) it is sextile the Sun-Saturn 16degs45mins midpoint. ... 9. Is it possible to render a chart without the north node?



There is no direct option in the user interface, but there is an URL trick to do it.

Call up the chart in the style you want. Now locate the end of the URL line in your browser.

Append to it this code: &stx2=p=0123456 and press the Enter key.

This overrides the normal set of planets for the given chart style, and tells it to use only planets 0 to 6, which are our internal codes for Sun to Saturn.

The codes are: 0 = Sun, 1 = Moon 2 = Mercury, 3 = Venus, 4 = Mars, 5 = Jupiter, 6 = Saturn, 7 = Uranus, 8 = Neptune, 9 = Pluto, n= mean node, t = true node, C = Chiron. The codes must be in a sequence without gaps.


This allows also to make charts with, lets say, only Sun, Moon, Venus by adding &stx2=p=013

This can be useful for teaching purposes.

Natal Sun-Moon-Saturn are in a 144th Harmonic relationship ... Sun-Moon = 53/144ths : Moon-Saturn = 25/144ths : Saturn-Sun = 66/144ths ...... And the Moon is "easing" the Saturn-165-Sun aspect.

144H = 9H x 16H = bliss (9H) derived from (x) persisting with a thing to the point where doing so creates an obstacle/enemy (16H).

144H also = 6H x 3H x 8H = talent/skill being developed (6H) to (x) enjoy (3H) persisting with a thing (8H) ... So, note the "easing" of the subconscious habit/tendency to "persist to the point where an obstacle/enemy is created".

My guess is that your 144H Moon-Sun and Moon-Saturn aspects are shaping/conditioning the Sun-165-Saturn aspect to behave as a 6H x 3H x 8H combination, rather than a 9H x 16H combination.

However, the Moon could be encouraging Sun-Saturn to behave as a 9H x 16H combination rather than a 6H x 3H x 8H combination ... and, to determine if or not that is the case, you'd need to review the past events activated by progressions and transits to this natal Sun-Moon-Saturn triangle.

The 24th Harmonic

Johndro read a chart in multiples of 15 degrees, a division of space by 24 instead of 12. He utilized the Campanus house system in the conventional 12-house and in his new 24 half-house system. It is curious to note that I have found this harmonic to be important at stock market turning points. Johndro worked for Gann, and perhaps that is where he discovered their significance. Johndro considered the 15, 75, 105, and 165-degree openings to be aspects. He felt that planets must be connected by some 15-degree multiple in order to be considered to be in contact.

I met John Addey about 35 years ago. He gave me a list of the basic meanings of each harmonic, 1 through 9. I asked him how one could determine the flavor of the 24th harmonic. He said that the meaning could be derived by taking the interpretations of the numbers that had a product equaling 24. So by combining 3 and 8 or 4 and 6, we could find the 24th harmonic. In both cases, we thought that one number represented stasis, no change, status quo. The other represented sudden and free movement. It made us both think of Saturn-Uranus. So we concluded that the 24th harmonic ruled change of trend, to move from one state to another.

I don't see potential for bliss coming from making enemies? It's not something I am even interested in. People can like or dislike whomever they want. I guess there is comfort derived from being somewhat indifferent to outcomes, like I'll be my saturnine self, they can be themselves, and my Pisces moon sees there is space enough for all.

The bliss comes from "persisting with a thing". The obstacles come from persisting for too long. The Moon in compassionate Pisces instinctively/subconsciously recognises the right time to cease persisting. Thus, the not-interested-in-making-enemies (or in creating obstacles) Moon encourages Sun-Saturn to walk away from unnecessary conflict.

I would agree to that but I am surprised how that very thing can create enemies...refusal to engage. I've also had surrender mistaken for provocation, kindness taken as sarcasm, absence taken as intrusion. Come to think of it, could this work both ways? I wondered if/when you'd ask that. ... Moreover, the 11-minute-orb of your Saturn-165-Sun is too wide for it to manifest (unaided) as a 144th harmonic aspect (15degs x 60mins divided by 144 = 6mins15 secs) - but within that required to manifest as a 72nd harmonic aspect (15degs x 60mins divided by 72 = 12mins30 secs). However, the 25/144ths and 53/144ths aspects of Moon-Sun and Moon-Saturn ARE within a 6mins15secs orb ... thus manifesting as a 144th harmonic aspect. So, natal Moon may indeed be (subconsciously) encouraging/aiding Sun-165-Saturn to push things too far.
