Thoughts?
With a yod, there is an apex planet quincunx two base planets.

Just the word "apex" gives an impression of how that planet might function or over-function within the relationship. It could also malfunction with dramatic results.
So, if you have a natural sextile forming the base of a potential yod, and someone else's planet is quincunx both of them (on their far midpoint), then your sextile becomes a sort of catapult for their planet, which becomes the apex. Through synastry, that planet is put in the spotlight. There could be more expectations or demands for that planet.
If someone else has a natal quincunx and your planet completes the yod at the base, depending on the planets and whole situation (as always), there could be a slight power imbalance or malfunction, where the yod-completion person feels very much needed (for balance, structure, meaning) but also possibly dealing with the ego manifestations of the yod apex planet. Of course it depends on everyone's maturity, what they are looking for, and so on.

I feel, as a general principle, that each sign might express its most "high pitched" or extravagant energy if we consider it in yod terms. For example: Sagittarius is the apex of a yod with Taurus and Cancer. Who doesn't think of Sag, and picture them happily eating and drinking (like a Taurus) at a bar with all the friends they love (Cancer)? Isn't that sort of a form of arrival for that sign? (Or maybe these are still my college impressions. Maybe I have to update this thinking.)
All the Caps I know, when they are comfortable in a relationship, get talkative (like a Gemini) and just happy (Leo).
And we can go around the zodiac like that, or I could, seeing how Aries has its Virgo and Scorpio tendencies (thinking of Aries and their neat houses, and the things they aren't going to tell you). I already talked about the Taurus-Sag similarities, and of course Taurus is already like Libra because they're ruled by Venus.
Anyway not sure if this is astrologically "official" but it's how my mind works.
