I like Venus conjunct Saturn in your parents' case. I do think that conjunction is basically a type of glue...so while it may be great for longevity, it's neutral for happiness. Yes, I would subscribe to that. (though in P`s case I can see why he would be drawn to that, with his Cappy Venus trine Saturn on the DESC in his natal; I think this just feels "right" to him or somehow confirms his view on what relationships should be like or something. I wouldn`t contribute Venus-Saturn with happiness neccessarily either. though very often with a feeling of contentment or an "this should be enough to make it work"-feeling. Not really exuberance, but you know what I mean. In my parent`s case the conjunction, which also includes a Mars-Saturn-conjunction of course and is prominent through the angularity to my Dad`s ASC, works pretty well I believe, partly also because a) my Dad has Saturn on the ASC and chartruler in Cappy, and my Mom has Cappy-DESC - so it is part of their relationship pattern b) there are not really any other aspects challenging this conjunction. sextile my Mom`s Uranus widely (almost 5 degrees though) trine my Dad`s Mercury exact (and squares his Chiron exact, but let`s not talk about that one. LOL) (actually my Mom`s Venus-Mars on my Dad`s Saturn-ASC are harmonizing their Mercury-Uranus-opposition (yeah occasionally they drive each other crazy, but they know when to pull the brake somehow).

As for Lancelot and myself, I think we are really better off being loose aquaintances, having some fun-times in relation to performances. Just think our composite is one to drive even the most peaceful person on earth crazy. Mercury conjunct Venus on 10 Aquarius exact, opposing Saturn on 12 Leo, squaring Uranus on 10 Scorpio. Need I say more? Add to that the exact Sun-Jupiter-square, and if we are generous with orbs we could say Mars on 3 Aquarius is conjunct Mercury-Venus as well (though I wouldn´t consider it opposite Saturn with 9 degrees, the square to Uranus? Maybe.) (well that Mercury-Venus is also closely trine Pluto and I think in orb for sextile Neptune, and Saturn trines Neptune and sextiles Pluto, so I guess the astrology just did not came to an agreement with itself, when it came to our composite. LOL) Moon ranges from 27 Scorpio - 3 Sagittarius, so there is a possibility this Moon is sextile Mars. Well it is certainly a kind of intriguing composite, but probably more so in analyzing it rather than living it. lol Interestingly though Draco composite Pluto is conjunct his tropical Venus and Draco composite Mars is conjunct my tropical Venus. And I just see that Draco composite Uranus is on 12 Aries (wasn`t there some eclipse there in DRaco-zodiac? Not that we would need another ecclipse targeting this (I think there might have been some sort of eclipse on around 10 Leo? earlier this year? kicking this T-square in our composite in the butt?)

lumina Thanks! Thats true, I'm only just starting though so the findings could change. Of course even if we did find anything, it would still only be a correlation and there would likely be deviations which would be calculated. I think the whole ethos of astrology is about correlations anyway so makes sense. Even so, with the synastries you posted, venus-pluto is there in all but one! Add that to Ava 's data and thats one/two more (i'm wondering about the wide orb, don't know whether to include or not). I wonder about this aspect though...thanks guys!

@blindlion, I agree 100% about looking at each person's chart before looking at the synastry! When I do relationship readings for clients I spend 30 mins on each partner's chart and then 30 on the synastry + composite.
I have a formula I like to use for quick-and-dirty synastry (when I'm working with clients or doing a quick look for a friend—I'll obsessively delineate far more for relationships I'm closer to):
1. Elemental Overview: what are the dominant elements in each chart? How do they get along with each other? Like, does one partner have an Air Moon while the other has a Water Moon? They're going to have to balance those very different ways of needing/offering care...
2. What's the hardest aspect in each chart? How will this affect intimacy? Is there a Mercury square Neptune that will make clear communication hard? A Capricorn Moon floating in the 12th house, unable to express its true feelings? How does this partner's hard aspects match/complement/challenge the other partners? Will they be able to help each other out, commiserate, or merely increase each other's misery?
3. What are the 10 most exact interaspects in their synastry? I'm mostly looking for less than a 2-degree orb. To fill out background context, I'd definitely look at orbs up to 8 or 9 for the Sun and Moon, but I'd give those interaspects far less weight. They won't shout nearly as loudly as that 0.03 orb interaspect.
4. How do these most exact interaspects tell a story of the core themes of the relationship? Do those themes align with the relationship needs of each partner? Like if both partners have Saturn-Venus contacts in their chart and then lots of Saturn and Venus interaspects, that's gonna feel compelling to them, like they're using their strengths together.

FruityLlamaA little more data for your spreadsheet! I took a quick look at 9 romantic relationships that have lasted at least 3 years (most of them much longer) and checked for the interaspects you're counting. I counted an interaspect twice if it appeared twice between two partners. Here's the stats: Moon - Mars = 7 times (4 out of 9 couples) Sun - Moon = 6 times (5 out of 9 couples) Venus - Pluto = 7 times (5 out of 9 couples) Moon - Pluto = 4 times (3 out of 9 couples) Sun - Venus = 8 times (7 out of 9 couples) For the record, Moon - Mars combos seem to correlate with the strongest sexual attraction! I weeded out a lot of charts of couples who were together very briefly who all had that aspect, and among the couples in this data set who have it I know from experience (in one case) and by report that those are fairly spicy connections.

Thanks ever so much clementine! Wow so yeah, Moon-Mars/Venus-Pluto look very prevalent, and as a DW too. Once all this is refined, I will start thinking about specific research questions.

actually I was just wondering, would you guys be up for making a google doc spreadsheet where we can all input our data together?

actually I was just wondering, would you guys be up for making a google doc spreadsheet where we can all input our data together? I like the idea, but I don't even know how to do that, and I don't have much personal data. We could do celebrity data, but there'd have to be some way to list which couples we're tracking, so we don't count the same people twice.

clementineI like your approach. It`s similiar to mine, if I had a real approach/Method. But interesting idea to localize the most exact aspects. Also I agree with the importance of the natals and also look at the elements, particulary in comparision of the personal planets (and also keep an eye on the dipositors; I may have many planets in Sagittarius, and Moon and Venus in rather rational Aquarius and Capricorn, however all my dispositors are in water signs, Jupiter in Pisces, Uranus in scorpio and Saturn in Cancer. It goes a long way to explain emotional processes underneath it all). But of course I am also aware that sometimes we might get lost in measurements when we are branching out too much. So it makes sense to start with the priority-ones (however we define them) and then add other things. Aspects under 2 degrees get a special mentioning in my book, too. Also considering that those will be aspected by transits at the same time. Other aspects that get a special consideration for me are those conjunct the angles; some other astrologer coined them "foreground" aspects, and I have found that to be true. Also, even if not foreground in my own natal, another person can make planets foreground by putting their angles onto them. Like my Dad pulls my Mom`s Venus-Mars-conjunction into the foreground by putting his ASC right there (and his Saturn - it works well for them, probably because that conjunction is pretty harmoniously aspected, and because that Virgo-placement is common ground for them, as is Saturn, he has it on the ASC with chartruler in Capricorn, she has DESC in Capricorn - that`s a match right there in the natals, and already indicates the need for some SAturn-interaction. Actually I think it would be less positive if there was no Saturn-aspect, especially for them. If we were just tallying up the aspects, we probably would come to the conclusion that is a mediocre-bad synastry, like Vedic sais, but that is not even scratching the surface. They have been married for 44 years now, are temporarily on a trip together once more, as they really enjoy spending time together and are still surprisingly affectionate with each other, at least for such a long marriage. But astrologically you really have to dig a little deeper in their case than most astrology textbooks would say).

Ava you know what I find funny? I was looking over P`s synastry with tight aspects (forget ours, too many squares. lol), and what I found interesting is that in all cases I checked (4 so far) there was a Sun-Mercury-aspect. a sextile a DW - square a trine a conjunction

Y'all, I have to ask: What does DW mean? I can't seem to get it from context!
