Thank you lumina for bringing this to my attention. I'm going public with it, though you're the expert. Here goes: Duad versus Dwad: aliceportman.com/calculating-duad-and-dwad-charts/Both divide the zodiac the same way, however: - When the first degree of each sign is the sign itself, that's a duad - When the first degree of each sign is ARIES, that's a dwad Therefore if you and another person have a planet in the same dwad, if your sun is at 1 Taurus and theirs is at 1 Sag, those planets will be in the same sign in the 12th harmonic (Aries, in this case). What does it take to make a synastry conjunction in 12th harmonic? Very tight orbs in the natal aspect. If your sun's @ 1°21'19 Taurus and theirs @ 1°21'19 Sag, then your suns will be exactly conjunct in 12th harmonic. Each 2 1/2 degree section (dwad) is divided into 30 degrees, so if your sun's at the beginning of the dwad and theirs is at the end, of course this will mean, your sun's at the beginning of the respective sign while theirs is at the end. --- lumina, correct me if I'm wrong or unclear, please.

Perfectly right! Love the image, too!
I am for the time being concentrating on the 12th harmonic chart, so the Dwad chart, though the Duads are extremely interesting in their own respect!
I´d only add to that that so far I am getting the impression that the 12th harmonic chart really gives us a snapshot about the major themes that are in play for a person, event or relationship. It`s mindboggling how much this resonates with what is going on between people. It does not necessarily say it is harmonious or disharmonious in terms of the conjunctions in that chart, for that yo have to go back to the natals. However an exact square within the 12th harmonic chart (which is of course a minor aspect in the natal; square in 12th harmonic chart is actually an 48th harmonic aspect. lol) or a trine in the 12th harmonic chart (a natal 36th harmonic aspect, though I find it easier to look at the 12th harmonic chart than to wrap my mind around the sheer numbers of the harmonic), might very much resonate with tension or harmony.
of course while a conjunction in 12th harmonic chart is perfectly in orb with 12 degrees even (relating back to a 1 degree natal major aspect plus semisextile and quinkunx), the other aspects in the 12th harmonic chart need to be much much closer (oppositions: 6 degrees, squares and trines: about 3-4 degrees).
Synastrically Cochrane uses an orb of 8 degrees for conjunctions in harmonic charts (in a 12th harmonic that traces back to an under 1 degree natal aspect).
Also just yesterday I have been thinking about the Dwad background, that it would be interesting to see if or what aspects are coinciding with the planets falling into the same Dwads. How awesome would that be! though I am aware that this might not even happen in every chart comparision.

This is a really interesting post guys. I was combing through my 12th harmonics with major people in my life and I only came across one significant conjunction - Sun conjunct Sun (1°) with one person. Naturally we have a tight semi-sextile in tropical synastry.
What is the 12th harmonic supposed to represent thematically?

Ava actually I think this might be one of the reasons - subconsciously maybe - that astrologers seem to be so fond of the 2-3 orb for tight aspects. Only those can happen between planets with the same Dwad, though it has to be the "right" portion of the 2,5 degree range of course.

Naturally we have a tight semi-sextile in tropical synastry. What is the 12th harmonic supposed to represent thematically? Hmm, to be honest I think that is highly unlikely. That would mean that you don`t have NO synastric aspects with anybody else? Or just no 1° synastric aspects? Usually something does come up. BTW for the conjunction in the 12th harmonic, a 12 degree orb is completely valid. (relating to a 1 degree orb in the natal synastry). Mostly the 12th harmonic emphasizes the Yod-aspects (quinkunx and semisextile), as the other aspects of course belong to different harmonics, too. A trine will also come up in 3rd harmonic for example, a square in 4th harmonic. Personally I find the beauty of the 12th harmonic to be that it gathers ALL major aspects plus semisextile/ quinkunx and gives us an overview of the themes that are present between people, in terms of the symbolism of the planets. It does not tell us however if that is easy or difficult. Also as you remember we do have 12 signs, and the 12th harmonic chart basically shows the relationship between the signs, conjunction, semisextile, sextile, square, trine, quinkunx, opposition and back again. It basically is a combination and merging of all kind of aspects, the harmonious ones, the challenging ones and the awkward ones, that is why I say it gives the themes, not neccessarily the ease of expression of these themes. Though as I said I go a step further and take the whole 12th harmonic chart into account, the aspect gestalt. my 12th harmonic Mercury trine my 12th harmonic Mars-MC and opposing my 12th harmonic Neptune-NN certainly tells me something. Actually the Mercury-Neptune-opposition in particular definitely tells me a lot, It is of course a 24th harmonic aspect in natal (the quindecile-family). But anyway this deos not have to do with the Dwad chart, for this we would just look if the planets fall into the same sign in 12th harmonic, irrespective of the orb.

You are right, things do pop up when I use an orb wider than 1-2° for sure

In your 12th Harmonic, why is the north node and south node the same? Is it just because of the math? Should we leave it out of consideration?

Well, I reckon my sun's duad is in Cancer. And the dwad is in Capricorn. Lol. Both make sense to me, on some level.
12th Harmonic - I have sun, moon, Asc in Cap. Moon opposing Venus in Cancer. That opposition squaring a Mars-Saturn conjunction. Venus isn't squaring Saturn though - out of orb, thankfully. Neptune trine sun/moon/merc, sextile Venus. Pluto sextile Sun/trine Venus.
I see some resonance with my 9th harmonic - Sun/Moon/Neptune conjunct, with moon on the NN. Mars sextile Neptune, sq Saturn. Neptune square Mercury. Venus square Pluto.
I may have some 'multiple of 3' aspect between the luminaries and Neptune, coz it shows up in these multiples-of-3 harmonics. I do have Sun-Moon trine very closely, so they're bound to show up everywhere.

Anyway this occasionally happens possibly depending if the the harmonic is an even or uneven number. Doesn`t matter though, it is an axis anyway.

My Juno - Saturn trine is something like that, being just one minute orb, even in the 12th harmonic it will come up as an exact aspect
