The sun was transiting exactly conjunct Sappho yesterday, on the south node.
I was happy to see Jewel Mayberry wrote about Sappho:
Where's your Sappho....any thoughts on it?
I was happy to see Jewel Mayberry wrote about Sappho:
Asteroid Sappho #80 is one of the first asteroids named after a real person in history. Sappho was a poet and writer born around 600 B.C. who resided on the island of Lesbos. She left a body of work that remains only partially intact due to the censoring she has received thorough out history. Known for being a lesbian and leader of local women, she pushed for education among females and formed a young women's academy for fine arts, where she taught poetry and verse. She was not afraid to be herself and even had the audacity to advertise her true thoughts and actions. What a woman she must have been. A genius and rare flower in her own time.
Love poetry and lyrical verse were this living archetypes specialty. She was most talented at invoking feelings of love and attraction with her words and prose. Sappho was a charmer. Depicted in open, flowing robes with a half smile, she appears most comfortable in her own skin and well...hot. Sappho was all about the excitement of attraction and she was not ashamed of much.
In a birth chart, Sappho represents artistic aptitude, especially where words are concerned. The act of displaying one's true sexual character is an element of Sappho, the right to do as one sensually pleases. Poetry, access to one's artistic feminine side, libido, and how we connect words with sensuality are what this asteroid is about.
In aspect to Mercury, we see potential for a romantic mind and the creation of poetry. A natural love poet.
Sappho in aspect to the Sun or ascendant increases attraction and sensuality in expression. Sexy sexy. These people may be bold in their sexual expression.
Sappho in aspect to the Moon goes to emotional sensitivity and feminine creation, sensitivity to females and beauty.
Sappho in aspect to Venus is a heady placement. Artistry is greatly increased and this can be someone who enjoys sex a great deal- look at the house placement and aspects. Saturn or Capricorn is not going to help this placement.
Sappho in aspect to Mars is a love warrior. Sensitizes the male energy. The "James Bond" effect. Can be known to lend a masculine air to females with Sappho in close aspect to Mars.
Sappho with Uranus is known for increasing libido. Can be known for making things a little unconventional - not a bad placement
Sappho in aspect to Neptune greatly helps in creative processes and desire for romantic sexuality.
Sappho with Jupiter is about beneficial education and liberal thinking, sexual education and acceptance.
Sappho in aspect to Pluto is going to increase desire and perhaps refine the Plutonic beast within. Sexy placement. The brooding artist.
Negative aspects to Sappho can indicate difficulties with sexual expression, guilt, self limitation, sexual prudishness, shame, inability to bond, fear of close communication, and frigidness.
In synastry, Sappho is one of the more potent asteroids that point to attraction. Love is no so much a part of the expression of this entity as plain old hot attraction is.
