"I am what I do."
?
What do you think of this one?
I feel there's potential for great insecurity, based on a fundamental sense that one's actions must align with their core self, and reflect that accurately. While that's basically true for everyone -- our actions represent our state of being -- with sun-Mars people, this may become something of an ego trap. The stakes are higher. The sun feels that its sense of worth and identity depends on acting according to core values, all the time. There isn't much room for screwing up, one can't just say, "Oh well, I did that, but I didn't mean it so....what's next?" No, the actions and psychology are linked.
Sun-Mars aspects create an Aries situation, where personal achievement redeems the self. Aries' balance is created by implementing their prodigious practical gifts. This offsets or overcomes their impractical side. Aries folks can be notoriously naive (not all, but many), and they consistently work around that weakness, fortifying their egos by excelling in other areas.
With the sun-Mars people I know, and I'm also one of these, there is usually a problem that needs solving. Pardon me if any of this sounds presumptuous, I'm just trying to focus and sketch out some ideas. And no need to read, of course.

Sun conjunct Mars:
The problem could be a sense that one's actions are already totally aligned with the self, so that others' modes of operation feel comparatively unnatural. This may trigger the native, who could feel relatively more authentic than the people they deal with. Also if you expect a sun-Mars person to convert to your way of thinking, you have a two-fold mission: you have to persuade both the sun AND Mars. So they can be a hard sell. However, if they take up with your cause, you have the benefit of this double-strength individual wholeheartedly supporting you. I guess "wholeheartedness" would be my word for this placement.
My father had an almost exact sun-Mars conjunction in Libra. He was heavily discriminated against in his family, though they wouldn't admit that, I feel that he was. The thing is, they couldn't actually get him to conform to all their rules. On a cellular level he probably felt that his instincts were correct and could be trusted, whereas they, in all their rigid religious and social indoctrinations, conveyed a belief system geared around self-distrust ("Do what you're told whether it makes sense to you or not.") No wonder he was the black sheep of the family, but over time I feel he also became the star.
Sun trine/sextile Mars:
Predictably much easier than the hard aspects, and that's really the main point.
On a minor level, negatively, this aspect could still trip a person up. They may start to come by things so easily that they fall into a pattern of overly identifying with their fulfilled desires. "I am what I want, because I set out to get what I want, and usually get it." When Neptune is involved this can lead to some delusion and confusion, ie: "I have what I want, of course I do!" even when signs are pointing to "No, you don't."
Sun square Mars:
These folks have a reputation for being hot-heads. In my experience, there are simply times when their aggression doesn't make sense to me. It's like a side show that doesn't quite fit with their regular temperament. I feel they can actually be extra sweet because Mars is either sidelined or kept on a careful leash...the internal tension demands resolution from them on a consistent basis in their youth, and they do tend to wrestle with their own demons more than they wrestle with others. I mean they are so busy fighting themselves, they may not even notice whatever YOU did wrong. Then again, they might.

Sun inconjunct or quincunx Mars:
Well it's hard to be objective, when I have a very tight quincunx. *edit
I'm not sure what to say, perhaps the self-modulating mechanisms are a bit broken or out of control. Nothing actually feels RIGHT, or it only seldom comes together in a satisfying way. Self-knowledge is a bit harder to get a grip on. Perhaps we compensate by striving to find the lights to guide ourselves by. I think many of us rely heavily on a sort of spiritual GPS, "I do this because I believe it's the Higher Path." It doesn't have as much to do with us, personally. It's like we've delegated some decision-making to the teachers, the objective truths (like astrology), the larger social context we find ourselves in (going along with the crowd but not quite fitting in.)
Landing on an activity that does feel completely right and resonant with one's core is a special kind of happiness. For me, even cultivating brand loyalty in products I can believe in feels like an existential triumph. "Hey I got this! I like this stuff, I completely do, I can keep buying it forever and never have to decide again!"
---
On a final note: I feel that sun-Mars people tend to congregate together.
