I wish them well on their new life but they are incredibly, incredibly misguided if they genuinely thought this interview was going to get people on side or understand their situation. Especially brits anyway, although we've yet to see it here. Whatever has happened in the past, we are in the middle of a bloody pandemic right now where minions like us have had to deal with family deaths, job losses, financial and mental instability...the list goes on. To sit and watch one multi-millionaire chat with another multi-millionaire now about how hard life is, is really distasteful. I know having money doesn't make you immune to hardship, but in the grand scheme of things and when put into perspective, it comes across self-absorbed. At the end of the day, the British largely don't care about what any of them do so long as its not embarrassing or unlawful. We fund them for god's sake, so if they don't like it they can bog off and we'll have our money back, thank you very much! We've got far many more important things to be worrying about than them. Ava you make a good point about outing others with this interview. She says in snippets I've seen that she was "silenced" and that they needed to tell their side of the story. So at first glance, I thought is this a retaliation to the media...? I mean, I think the media is a load of bollocks and sympathise with anyone having to deal with their nonsense on the daily. However, personal "outings" of people still inside the Firm, knowing they too will be silenced, is hypocritical as you say. Neither party really comes out a winner in the end...

Right I'm about 10mins in now. I'm aghast at her wilful ignorance- she tells us she never thought to research royal protocol or anything like that?
I think Harry should have maybe prepped her way better as well. I'm just amazed how someone can throw themselves so naively into something.

Plus: the royals made themselves look bad. They aren't new at it, either.
I deleted my rant, but I can't believe that people are more offended by Meghan Markle, than they ever were by Trump.

I guess Prince Andrew being involved in Epstein's affairs, doesn't count at all.

She says she hardly knew anything about Harry or the royals. She was friends with Princess Eugenie before she met Harry.... people.com/royals/meghan-markle-oprah-interview-knew-princess-eugenie-before-dating-prince-harry/...but to her credit (?) she remained completely ignorant about Eugenie's family and circumstances and even Harry himself. === LOL, this is funny even to type.

anela - In my post i'm referring to tax payer money. He is no longer a working Royal. He is still a member of the Royal Family. A "working royal" is a tax funded job where they carry out duties on behalf of the Monarchy. He choose to leave this role, so I don't think he should get funding from the tax payer. The Queen has other grandchildren who are not working Royals. The RF have a very large private wealth( which he will likely get an inheritance from) and if they want to fund him from that then fair enough. His current personal wealth is far more than what most people could ever dream of having in their lifetime. I haven't watched the interview, I don't have an opinion on it. I'm not saying he hasn't had a bad time - I just don't agree with him complaining about this particular topic. Would appreciate if you unquote my post. Thank you.

I agree that this interview isn't the worst crisis the RF have seen in 85 years, that is hilarious. I too wondered why people weren't speaking more about Prince Andrew in contrast to this, but to be honest I don't think there is any more to say until a trial goes ahead and comes to a conclusion. He has already stepped down from Royal duties I believe so in terms of media fodder I guess they've flogged that horse? M + H are doing something new all the time hence why they're still in the media- and perhaps they want to be. I just think they would have been more dignified to walk away quietly, and perhaps talk about their experiences later on if they are as happy as they say they are now. At some point, the media will tire of them and the next targets will be Will and Kate's children, unfortunately. Ava I totally forgot she said she was friends with Eugenie before meeting Harry! That is really quite funny... anela not sure what Trump has to do with this to be honest

Here in the UK, we don't talk about them at all usually. We did a bit today at work but even when the weddings happened, no one actually cared or spoke about it. I guess we don't see the royals as being as glamourous as maybe Americans do? They really do present themselves as an institution and they all look like employees to me. I personally don't really have an opinion on them or whether the monarchy is worth our money...couldn't give a toss unless they're being frivolous with it. I think that sentiment is shared across the country.
I'll go back to not caring in a few days haha.

Hmm, not wanting to really get into all of this, but aren`t there different meanings/ levels of "knowing"? Id always think it is a very different situation, getting to know the family you are marrying into, than just hearing about them from an aquaintance or friend? (of cousre if I am marrying into the royal family, I will of course do my research on what that means, what would the demands be that are being put on me, and if I could really imagine living with that) Another question for me is actually: why do they generate such an interest? What is it about the British Royal family that so many people seem to be fascinated with? (though actually I have mostly noticed that on American forums or sites, not so much on German ones, though they actually DID make it to the main news on TV. lol HOw ridiculous is that? ?)

I don't know enough about other cultures to pinpoint the differences, but in American culture, celebrities are like dieties, and the British royals are like the most important ones. Everything is really hyped up and dramatized here. It's an ego fest more than a community. I mean, small countries seem more like functioning societies to me, while America is more about the triumph of the individual, the capitalist, the alpha male or Oprah Winfrey. You know? So people are attuned to who is on the tippy tippy top? Which billionaires or luminaries? I know in more normal countries, people don't really care. Sorry if I offend Americans, I don't even belong here.
