Friend of mine has it- she ended up on birth control and having a regular exercise routine to regulate everything.

I don't have it, not that I know of, but one thing I learned from macrobiotics is, chicken protein is the most dense, and when it's not digested and metabolized fully, it settles in the pelvic cavity, affecting the ovaries. I've also read an article by author/naturopathic doctor Michael Murray, saying that the more eggs a woman eats, the more likely she is to get ovarian cancer. I've noticed that when I eat chicken, I grow facial hair where I don't want it, and when I don't eat chicken, that hair doesn't grow. This is a reliable cause-and-effect. But maybe that's just me. Here's an article on protein intake and ovulation, maybe off topic: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3066040/Also if you Google raw diet and PCOS, you'll lots of women are saying they found their cure in a raw diet. As one who's tried to go raw and only made it about two weeks at most, I understand the difficulty of that prescription. However, to the extent that it's comfortable and do-able, maybe raw meals here and there, or an all-raw short cleanse a few times per year, could help improve the PCOS.

I tried the raw diet but it didn't really help Healthy eating habits do play an important role as well as exercise, less stress and not smoking. There were months it was ok but then suddenly I'd get cysts again always on the right side. The docs also said it's part of a hormone imbalance. Some women go on hormone drugs to control it but I personally don't like meds ( my body hares it) so I always try more natural alternatives even if it takes a bit longer to work. Was curious how others deal with theirs and how it affects their daily lives.

I dont have it. Not that I know but noticed a hormonal disbalance after getting off the pill. Read a little and saw some articles on Maca root. I decided just recently to try it and ordered it. I order my health stuff over iHerb as they have it all in one place, many producers also organic, not tested on animal,vegan.... I read its best in powder form but I decided on tablet form knowing I would get too lazy to keep up with powder form but thats just me. So once I try it, I will come here with thoughts. As per reviews on the one I ordered, it gives a boost in energy too so I am looking forward to trying it .

I wonder if treating PCOS is akin to treating hormonal acne (caused by too much testosterone). If it is, this is what I do: 1) stop all cow based dairy completely (I introduced dairy 3 months ago and my skin became haywire with hormonal acne. Stopped 2 weeks back and 75% of the acne has subsided), 2) spearmint tea (you could do some essential oil, but a drop is equivalent to 32 cups of tea, so be careful), 3)I find cod liver oil to be a good anti-inflammatory.

Agreed, fishy. I don't usually drink milk which is why I haven't had crazy acne problems (few spots and little texture is normal, but cystic acne was a whole new ball game for me and I was a bit confused). The past 3 months have been horrible though- started getting cysts in December- why? I started drinking milk in coffee at work (in cappuccinos) daily.. and I started work in December. It isn't particularly stressful, so it wasn't stress. Cow's milk -.-#

Diet is a key factor. Red meats should be consumed in moderation with PCOS.
Healthy alternatives usually take longer to work than drugs. It sucks because PCOS can affect fertility.
There are success stories about women who overcame it with different methods.

I have a friend who said that a ketogenic diet has helped. My sister is on the same diet, but for Crohn's disease.
