The most interesting thing that strikes me about France’s natal chart (for the 5th Republic, it’s current genre of Democracy) is that - It was created on a Full Moon
- It was a few weeks shy of a total solar eclipse that year (which occurred on Oct 12th, France’s birthday is September 28th)
- Every single planet is direct in the chart
There is a major sense of “destiny” present in this incarnation of France. I find the Moon/South Node conjunction particularly compelling because France has always struck me as a country relentlessly obsessed with its history and former achievements when placed against other countries on the world stage. There is a ruthless individualism, a competitiveness, that is perfect for both the Moon and South Node to be in the “winning” sign of Aries. Does the South Node always indicated a “stuckness” - an inability to evolve to into something better than what it once was? Not always, especially given that the Sun is in the same sign as France’s North Node (forward moving motion into a “newness”), though it isn’t as potent as the Moon’s proximity to its South Node. However, the potential is there should the country want to embrace an inclusiveness, a refinement, a perfect harmony, and a greater sense of “justice” than what it once had. How perfect is it that the country famous for the guillotine has its “past” in the brazen and seemingly violent Martian sign of Aries? France is going through four interesting transits right now: - It’s experiencing its third Saturn Return (n.Saturn at 20° Sagittarius)
- It also has Jupiter bouncing back and forth on it’s North Node (n.NN at 22° Libra)
- Uranus in Aries has been gracing its South Node
- Pluto is on the edge of its 7th/8th house between its retrograde period for the past 3 years
The Pluto and Uranus transits (particularly the square it experienced in 2014) has manifested itself in classic ways, such as the unprecedented violence France has experienced in the past 5 years. Whether through radical terrorism or through racial violence, dissatisfaction with the status quo is palpable in daily French life. This leads us to the polarizing election cycle currently going on. Be back to add more later

Marine Le Pen
The daughter of a 5 time French Presidential candidate and leader of the “FN” (National Front - a far right political party), she is very much made in her father’s image in both political allegiance and ability to work the media with controversial soundbytes. She strongly believes that France has lost its former glory due to the influx of immigration, its absorption into the EU (European Union), and dislikes “globalization” and all that it entails (such as the belief that multiculturalism has led to the watering down of French culture). Her penchant for France’s illustrious golden era is perfectly exemplified by her natal Saturn conjunct the South Node of France. The rigidity of her stance in this regard can be seen as Saturn at its most stifling. She is apart of “French royalty” in the sense that she’s the heir of her father’s belief system, as given that her father was once the President of the FN, she succeeded him and held that position until recently. It wasn’t seen as politically savvy for her to be seen as the mouthpiece of that institution given the precarious situation of her being a political candidate, due to the fact that having “fluid” opinions is more beneficial in this state than being seen as “static” and opaque. While France has an infamous distaste for monarchy, she wields the role well with natural flair given her Sun/Mercury in Leo conjunct France’s Uranus. France is a country especially comfortable with that other societies would deem “outcasts” which can be a testament to its Aquarius MC. However, does Le Pen’s alignment with France’s Uranus and South Node put her at a disadvantage? Wouldn’t it be better for a candidate to have a hold of France’s Sun/NN/ and MC? What is also striking is that Le Pen and France have reversed nodes. They have a “destined” relationship with one another, though we all know that karmic relationships don’t always pave the path for healthier habits. Where France “should” go, Le Pen would have a different vision. What France once considered the apex of its achievements, Le Pen could dwell too heavily on that, not knowing what would be a better move to keep France up with the zeitgeist of Europe. (Please note I'm glossing over quite a bit for the sake of simplification but if anyone wants to chime in with some observations its more than welcome!)

My simplified thoughts on the candidates transits: t.Jupiter is on her "ASC" right now (not sure if Le Pen's birth time is verified), while Jupiter is transiting over his Pluto/NN (also subsequently France's NN as well). Both of these transits can signify victories. I predicted that Lebron and Tom Brady would win their respective championships based on their transits even when the odds seem stacked against them. - Jupiter was opposite Lebron's Moon/trine his Venus/trine his ASC when he won the NBA Finals in 2016 against the highly favored Golden State Warriors
- Jupiter was conjunct Tom Brady's ASC/NN/Pluto (all in Libra) when he made the greatest Superbowl comeback of all time back in February 2017 against the Atlanta Falcons
- Perhaps most importantly, Donald Trump was experiencing his Jupiter Return and t.Jupiter was trine his Gemini Sun/NN/Uranus when he won the Presidential election when all of the so called mathematically accurate pools were stacked against him
So we can see how pivotal Jupiter is (especially in the sign of Libra) when it comes to unprecedented victory and "poetic justice" (however you want to interpret that)
This is why I feel the Presidential election is a tough call, because both candidates are going through major Jupiter transits right now. It's between a rock and a hard place. So let's look elsewhere!
t.Saturn Transiting Saturn is retrograding back and forth in the 20-29° degree area of Sagittarius until December. This is important because: - Saturn in Sagittarius marks the 3rd Saturn Return for the nation of France
- Emmanuel Macron has his Sun/Mercury/Venus/Juno in these range of degrees in Sagittarius
- Le Pen could have a late Sagittarius Moon if her birth time is different
- Donald Trump won the Presidential Election with n.Saturn conjunct his Moon
Now, this again tells us next to nothing. The most striking similarity we can make is Le Pen experiencing an identical "winning" transit if in fact she's not an early Cap Moon. Macron does place his heavy Sagittarius stellium on France's Saturn/DSC which indicates that he would be a highly stable, ideal leader for France if this election slides in his favor. But does harmony equal victory in this case? Let's move to another planet to find out. t.Uranus Transiting Uranus is experiencing its last run in Aries, and by mid-next year will step into the leafy green sign of Taurus. This comes at a particularly auspicious time with the rest of the outer planets as Pluto is still in salt-of-the-earth Capricorn, Jupiter will be moving in Scorpio, and Saturn will also be in Capricorn by December of this year. So it seems the zeitgeist of the times would favor a very "solid", grounded candidate who is adept at finances/economy/geopolitics. This is the kicker. Emmanuel Macron has an early Virgo Saturn, so this time could herald in major leadership for him. He's also a Taurus Moon, and Uranus making a conjunction with that aspect within the next two years is interesting. He would be the youngest leader of France since Napoleon III, and in an earlier post I discussed his rather unconventional relationship with his wife. This transit could also be symbolic of him bringing France into an entirely new era since its conception in the mid-century. Yet... Marine Le Pen also has an earthy natal chart! She has Jupiter/Pluto/Uranus in Virgo, and supposedly a Cap Moon. t.Pluto has been trining her Jupiter for the past two years, which makes sense given her meteoric rise as a controversial media darling this election cycle. In due time t.Pluto will also trine her natal Pluto and t.Uranus trine her natal Uranus - is this the mark of the future leader of France during the height of her powers? So like I said, it's very difficult to see a clear "winner" in the charts like in the case of Lebron James, Tom Brady, and Donald Trump. France will find out who its future leader is shortly, however, it is looking rather grim as a whole because voter turnout in the country is only at 28%. I'll end the post with Macron/France's synastry and you can be the judge

athena , Wow! A very interesting and impressive analysis as far as I can tell. There are parallels with the US election is so far as the choices available. It isn't a right wing candidate against a radical left instead the opposition is a moderate or someone easily recognisable as part of the establishment - Macron or Hilary. The thing in the Macron synastry that particularly catches the eye is his stellium (which mirrors and squares France's stellium in the 5th) in 11th on France's Dsc and Saturn. Juno on Dsc may spell a marriage about to happen. At least I hope so. The vertex of both Macron and France seem to have more prominent connections in this synastry (Vertex/Pluto and Vertex/Uranus)- whether these top the force of reversed nodes in the previous synastry, I'm not sure. France's chart ruler sextile's his MC. The pull of France's Moon to his Pluto might express voter attraction.

What you said about the similarities between the American candidates and the French is very striking. It seems many French are grumbling because Macron is so bland in comparison to the more radically left Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is something like the French equivalent to Bernie Sanders. Let's hope the French have learned something from November of 2016 though. I like your analysis on the Juno/DSC connection! A marriage analogy is very apt You made me take a gander at Le Pen's synastry again and I just caught her tight Eros/Psyche conjunction with France's Vertex. That is a fascinating little connection. Makes sense how some French have deified and romanticized her as some kind of savior to French culture.

Macron defeats Le Pen! Looks like 2016-2017 was an excellent year for those with Sagittarius/Libra placements, however difficult the road may have been

@astrokeen Apparently Macron's proximity to the hugely unpopular Hollande administration was unsavory to many French folks. It's very eerie how much it mirrored the American election with many American's feeling cheated that Bernie Sanders didn't win the Democratic nomination over Hillary Clinton. However, unlike Americans, the French felt it was still important to show up on election day so the more unpopular leader wouldn't see the victory through.
In spite of the malcontent, French turnout for the election was 74% of the population, which is their lowest turnout since 1969. Yet if 74% of the U.S. population voted in 2016, it would have been the highest turnout in a US election since 1896. Clearly the French take their Democracy seriously..
