So, maybe this belongs on the "Rants about social media astrology" board. Or maybe I'll learn something I don't know. The universe can be like that...
I'm in a couple of astrology groups on Facebook including one on synastry. I keep seeing people going on about placing things in their partners 12th, or the partner in theirs.
Is this really a thing to want? I mean, for me it's Libra. Without going down the rabbit hole of family members (including Dad),... Let's just say that it's usually complicated. My brief dating experiences with "Libra-Scorps" (Suns very late in Libra or on the cusp, were similarly complicated. (Rabbit hole alert... This around the time Pluto was entering Scorpio, thus conjuncting my Asc and their Sun... 3 stars out of 5, fun for a vacation, but don't buy the timeshare)
With major Libra transits, it seems ok at the start, but as they progress, there's a growing sense of things going inexplicably wrong behind the scenes, but I can't tell why. Then they hit.my Asc @0° Scorpio and kaboom. Usually the kaboom resolves to a better place, but not without acrimony.
So, why do people go on about this placement in synastry? Is it just junk astrology, or is there something I'm missing?

Well 12th house sometimes is also called "your blind spot", so there might be something you`re missing. 😜
But joking aside, like usually I think it depends, on how you deal with your 12th house energy and also how planets falling in there are aspected in synastry, and how compatible their "signature" is to your chart (with signature I usually mean, the sign they are in, the dispositor, the natal house and most of all the aspects, and how all of that "speaks" to your planetary make up, especially to either the same planet in your natal or the planet that 12th house planet is aspecting in your chart.
Having said that, I come across quite a bit of 12th house synastry, though usually it is coming along with some other strong stuff as well. Well my brother and his wife have a lot of 12th house synastry overlay along with their composite 12th house containing a stellium of Sun, Mercury, Venus, but they are both Pisces, and on top of that my sister in law puts her fullmoon (Sun in Pisces, Moon in Virgo) right across my brother`s horizon.
So it is just never one thing alone.
For me personally I crave and fear 12th house placements simultaneously (similiary to the 8th house), it forced me to go deep down the rabbit hole, but, when all is said, I really LIKE going down the rabbit hole. However one has to be prepared to face what is bubbling up, and it is not always a nice sight. But as long as I can be open to it, even the ugly shadow sides, I usually am doing okay with the 12th house and it feels very valuable to me.

In my own chart, I have an empty 6th and 12th. The 12th house cusp is early Libra, and it's ruler is Venus @2° Cancer, Rx and conjunct the NN, so things at the beginning of my 12th are Square the ruler and nodal axis. There are trines to my mercury and sun in Gemini, but my 8th cusp is @29° Tau, so they are also ruled by Venus (Placedus, the whole sign is Gemini and mercury). The only other possible aspect is the sextile to my Leo Moon
My 6th house is my stasis box. Things in Aries for the most part either don't interact with me, or do so minorly beneficially. Libra should be the same, but it's more tricky. House of hidden enemies, right? I guess that's ultimately why I'm asking... Why do you want a hidden enemy for a partner?

. Why do you want a hidden enemy for a partner? I never bought this "Hidden enemy" stuff. Hidden yes, Not intentionally, but we might Turn a blind Eye, so to speak. Enemies or Friends can be found in any House. People in your 12th House often have a key to unlock subconcious content in US. That could make them enemies or Out greatest allies.
