There’s not much to Leo in terms of mythology. In variations of Greek or Roman myths, it is represented by the Nemean lion eventually killed by Hercules. Some believe Leo is represented by Humbaba, a monster guarding the Cedar Forest where the gods lived. Either way, both creatures terrorized human beings.
The lack of mythological narrative regarding Leo is indicative of its straightforward, steady nature. The Sun always rises in the East. It has a steady, predictable journey of 365.25 days around the earth. In some astrological models, the zodiac starts with the luminaries (Leo/Cancer) and expand to both sides. Unlike the Moon/Cancer, the Sun radiates its own light. There’s no question that it shines, and its warmth and light help create life.
Leo sun/venus/mars tend to be confident in their own ability. Though they do assess their strength before diving in a battle, they definitely do not take a hundred years to feel prepared like a Capricorn. They are naturally loud, charismatic, proud, and radiating so much warmth. Even when a Leo just wants to ask if you are ok, immediately it feels like the sun just came out for you.
Leo is the opposite sign of Aquarius and they also are the sun that goes through all the signs and seasons, methodologically every year. So they know the POV of someone else’s ego, they know the weakness and the strength of everybody while being acutely aware of their own strength and weaknesses. They naturally know the emotional and step-by-step path to put a damn show together. Leo is underrated when it comes to being intuitive and logical. You do not see a typical leo pushing someone wayyy too far like an Aries, or Gem. No, they naturally understand how someone feels when hurt, or their light is taken away. That’s also why they do not crack stupid jokes at inappropriate times. I mean, they are not plunging down the emotional abyss most of the time, and prefer to not be there but they know how life crushes a Scorp or a Cap, on an ego level.
They can be lazy at times, but when it comes to shining, and there is an audience, they will show up and their games will be super tight. They do not want to be embarrassed; they do not want to let their fans down (and Leos always think they have fans) so they work HARD to show up (a la JLo). Leo placements are pretty good at glossing over their mistakes as if nothing happened, because it hurts to acknowledge that they fail in any way, shape, or form. The sunlight is pure. It doesn’t allow for the emotional complexity of say Pisces or Scorpios kinda games. To Leo, being broken isn’t beautiful. They are not like Capricorns who emphasizes on how they came from nothing and through hard work, pull themselves together. No! Leo is LIGHT and LIT. It takes a lot for a Leo to say sorry. When they do, it must have been some crazily humbling events. But Leos are all for turning the negative into something positive. The sun gotta shines … So after every setback, they come back out another day, trying to win people by the sheer force of their strength and their light.
Another aspect to their dismissal of their own mistakes and weaknesses is that they are kinda aware of their own dark sides and there is also a side to them that distrust and thus secretly dislike most people. Especially Leo risings. They tend to dislike having to address their weaknesses, and naturally do not want people to be too close or too emotionally connected or vulnerable with them. Both Uranus and Saturn are at detriment in Leo. They can seem all fun but you take them outside of their comfort zone and they can’t call the shot anymore, they are not gonna like it. So there might not be a lot of emotional growth for Leo over time. They can go through really bad relationships without ever acknowledging their parts in how they went south so it’s not surprising that they tend to divorce ( Halle Berry, Madonna, JLo, Sean Penn, Whitney Houston, even JK Rowling,.. ).
On a brighter side, Leo rules the 5th house and everything to them is play time. Romance to a leo is not necessarily the stereotypical wine and dine and buckets of roses like Libra/Aries; they are not gonna object to you flooding their house with flowers, but like the sun going through its own cycle, you have to change up your game and be open to things that are slightly unpredictable and exciting. Not Scorpio/Aqua unpredictability, but you can’t just go by the book all the time. Leos appreciate laughter, excitement, and especially creativity. They rule dramas, films, the entertainment industry and they appreciate a story with an arch. Or else, it’s just boring.
Since they understand the needs to play, and the egoistical perspective of every sign, they are forgiving when people make mistakes. Of course, in Leo manners, they will have to drag you first, but they tend to be loyal and willing to push through if their partner is willing to improve. Beyonce (Leo mars, ruler of moon) was dragging Becky with the good hair big time, but she did not divorce. Some of them also do not divorce but cheat and toy with others any way (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ben Affleck, also Justin Timberlake (Leo Riser)…). It feels like every Leo really wants family and kids, but they are not cut out for that quick of a jump into long-termed commitment… Yet every Leo goes all in and demand to be special and get married very quickly, every single time.
I think one of the very few misconceptions about Leos is that they are high-maintenance, and always demand their partners to be shiny when in fact they tend to just want someone who is conventionally good looking, creative, funny, not high maintenance most of the time but can be decently gorgeous when the time calls for it. Most days, Leos know they are not gonna be able to pull a show, and they have performance anxiety so they tend to do well with more laid-back people. In fact, I feel like they like their partners to not be the ultimate gorgeous model because they prefer to feel like the prize in the relationship. They never admit it but they know they cannot keep up with Capricorn standards every single day. Just one of those days when they can show up and win, but not all the time. We do have a Leo-Capricorn success story, a la the Obamas, so there is hope for all of y’all Capricorns out there.
