This thread is for people to add their own experiences or thoughts on the matter as a guide for beginners. I'll start with a quote to explain what a lunar return is: "What exactly is a lunar return? Every month, the moon returns to the exact position it held in your natal chart at your time of birth. Factor in the location of your current place of residence, and you've got a lunar return. What does a lunar return tell you about yourself? It describes the emotional impact the planets—or planetary energies, if you like—will have on you for the month to come. Can it show events taking place in your life, as opposed to the emotional effects of those events? Yes, of course it can—both go together in the reading. Bear in mind, though, that lunar return shows how you can identify energies and how they will manifest. A lunar return is not—repeat not—a crystal ball, Tarot, or biorhythm reading. It is a snapshot of what you can expect to undergo during a single month as determined by the planets in your chart. Although some of the major transitions will last from month to month if they involve the outer planets making alliances to the inner planets, a lunar return is good for one month and one month only. The inner (or personal) planets are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. The outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The Moon, of course, will always be in the same sign and position as at birth, but the aspects will change from month to month. The houses are of prime importance in a lunar return reading, as is the ascendant on the chart of the lunar return." Read more here: www.llewellyn.com/journal/article/780

I'm still learning. Here's all I know (not much):
===
* My chart is just rectified but still seems to work uncannily well, like planets/nodes fall right on the angles in the lunar returns for meaningful times
===
* Sometimes it's not the LR for the day something happens, but for the month following the event, which represents how I experienced or emotionally processed it. For instance my husband and I got together very fast, and within days I had a new LR, and that chart is more descriptive of our whirlwind romance than the previous one.
LR for first date: Angles conjunct natal angles by about 3°, ASC @ 4 Leo sextile moon @ 4 Libra on my husband's natal moon and our composite IC-Saturn
LR for first month: LR MC conjunct my natal IC and our comp sun; LR sun exactly conjunct Venus, LR moon exactly conjunct Jupiter in the 2H, lots of planets + nodes aspecting each other at anaretic degrees
===
* LR features Venus on the MC in a range of incidents from awful to amazing, so that's useless as a predictor for me at this point.
===
* Venus on angles doesn't tell me much of anything, not with my level of analytical power, though Venus on the IC seems more reliably close and Venusian than Venus-MC. I guess signs are important.
One example:
-> LR Venus-Uranus-MC all exactly conjunct my natal sun when I was first getting to know my ex -> LR Venus conjunct Uranus, with Venus exact on my natal DSC, for a volatile fallout
Take-home message: Cap is probably more stable for relationships for me than Aqua (?)
===
* NN on the ASC in the LR for three deaths in my family; haven't done much research so there might be more.
* NN on my natal ASC for the birth of my first child
^ A little confusing there.
* LR NN-MC for the birth of my only daughter, conjunct her NN-moon * LR NN-MC widely conjunct (5°) for the birth of my next son plus LR ASC on my natal ASC
It makes sense to me if the nodes and angles are conjunct when people are passing into and out of this world, it just reminds me of a portal.
So far in my unprofessional rummaging through charts I have not seen the nodes conjunct angles in an LR where someone was not born or dying, but I have to keep looking.

I haven't checked past events yet, I'm feeling sick (my stomach), but I have checked the one that happens in a few days, and the one at the end of March. The March 1st chart features another Moon square Mercury, and harsh aspects in other ways. The March 28th chart has the moon conjunct Venus, trine Jupiter, Mars, Pluto, and Saturn. Also Sun conjunct Chiron, though. Moon/Venus are in the 7th, and the Cap pile-up are in the 3rd (that doesn't feel so good - that's where they are for me all the time, the houses are close to my natal house placements, ascendant is at 6*Scorpio.

Ava wow I remembered just a few months ago you said you didn’t care about LR and I did a quick read for the month Your mother passed... now you’re already gone through your whole life events. I find LR and SR very revealing in and of themselves without even the needs to compare them with natal charts. My clients let me know all the times when my monthly predictions come true. I pretty much just read it like a natal chart. I used to do composite of natal and LR as well but have gradually found them to be redundant

Ava wow I remembered just a few months ago you said you didn’t care about LR and I did a quick read for the month Your mother passed... now you’re already gone through your whole life events. I spent an evening being curious, and made that post above. Correction though, LR ASC was conjunct NN for the month before my grandmother died, not the month after. The issue for me is, so many of the LR charts for significant life events do not seem to match the main event/memory within that time frame. And generally speaking within a span of a lunar cycle there are likely to be ups and downs, it's not like we live in a sequence of 29-day moods. All things considered I'm still nowhere near having an ability to read these charts and make predictions with any level of confidence. Not pretending to; I've repeated this over and over throughout the forum.

Hmm, for me it's hard to even remember what happened. Sometimes I see things on the angles. But it's hard to predict what, if anything, that means.
There were benefics on the angles for some really unpleasant events, and "malefics" in hard aspect to angles during times of recuperation.
Sometimes the symbolism matches - such as an exact mercury-chiron square, and Mars on the IC for an absolutely horrendous period.
And honestly, even if I could tell what a certain chart means; it would be a burden, not a gift. I shy away from predictive astrology because I'd much rather not know. Still peek at things occasionally, but that's as far as it goes.

Ava it really depends on how you interpret the charts. If the i see a stellium say in 10th, either in lunar or solar return, it doesnt mean something regarding career will happen. It means this person is gonna put more effort towards their career. Then you have to look at everything else in the chart to see if they support these career moves. Recently I read for a client who didnt reveal to me she was pregnant. I believe she had a stellium in 5th in SR, but also ruler of 4th depositing in 5th. And then 6th house indicates a heavier workload, not much time for fun. So I said it seems like a year where she's possibly pregnant or give birth to a child. I wouldnt read that for every person with a return with 5th house stellium. Other common sense kinda things like LR only lasts 28-9 days, so the events unfold might not be of much gravity unless pluto is right on the IC or something of sort. I think LR can point to job loss, promotion, possibly some major sudden events but not something like a long-term trend (i.e. a relationship).

My LR for when I got pregnant the first time is the same LR for my wedding, just as it should be (Juno in Virgo here) and there's a new moon in the 4th house with the moon on the IC, so that's cool. Venus in the 5th as I have in my natal (I assume).
Last night I kept telling my Aqua brother I could not come to his party and he text-bullied me into coming, so I was traveling at the last minute for dubious reasons, and the kids I brought along asked me to go visit my best friend so we ended up intruding there as well (she was nice about it, God bless Pisces), and basically everything about last night was a surprise and altogether strange.
Moon was transiting conjunct Uranus and then through my LR 11th house so I guess that fits.
I guess?
Pls don't quote
