Whenever I study astrology, I find myself revising, broadening, and deepening the very basic archetypes of the planets. Every new chapter, every nugget of information ties back to these foundations. We start out seeing them as cookie-cutter characters, and over time our view of them changes into a much more nuanced version, which in turn, gives way to an essence, a stripping down of complications, coming full circle to the way we began, but with a lot more depth.
Hoping you'll excuse the roundabout description and interminable sentence(s) - mercury is in Pisces (I'm a water merc too). And in honor of Mercury retrograde, it's a back-to-basics thread.*
Would you guys like to share the insights you've gained about the planets themselves?
* Also since it's Merc Rx, I might come back later and edit this post to read better.

Such a cute presentation there, 12YearsABlob. I do typically just work with basic principles like: sun = being moon = feeling Mercury = thinking Venus= savoring Mars = animating Jupiter = expanding Saturn = substantiating Uranus = changing Neptune = enchanting Pluto = intensifying Years ago an astrologer was teaching me his own system, in which there are 12 planets (including Eris and Ceres) divided into three sets according to their distance from the sun. We all know the personal planets and transpersonal planets; between them are what he called the extrapersonal (social/public) planets. Each set of 4 planets consists of one focal point of consciousness: the sun (self consciousness), Jupiter (social consciousness), and Uranus (true objective consciousness). I don't know whether or not he'd mind me talking about this; he was planning to write a book but it still hasn't been published. I'm left with a lot of material that I subscribe to but feel reluctant discussing. Anyway, Uranus is very important in that scheme so I've probably paid more attention to Uranus archetypes than others, wondering how one might argue that our whole perception of reality is oriented around our Uranus placement. Pls don't quote

Thanks, I figured this is a good place for that sort of discussion. The absolute basics in "Basic Astrology", if we have any beginners. And for us too, a place to add information & opinions. The minute, fundamental things can be so revealing.
That's an interesting perspective - to include Eris & Ceres. There's been a lot of increased focus on Chiron as well lately. Wonder what that's about. Will check out that video too.
