Would like recommendations of books that are insightful and illuminating on world economic and political crisis. I discovered a whole host of writers whilst studying International Relations recently. Previously, I had thought best sellers, like Joseph Stiglitz, were the leading voices exposing the ills of neoliberalism. Of course, Stiglitz has much to offer, particularly, first hand accounts of how the World Bank in collusion with the IMF derailed the economies of several countries. A top writer is David Harvey, a professor at CUNY. One of his top books is 'A brief History of Neoliberalism'. Amongst recently published and very enjoyable reads: The Divide: A Brief Guide to Global Inequality and its Solutions by Jason Hickel. His videos on You Tube are worth watching too. Doughnut Economics by Kate Raworth. A few weeks ago I attended a talk by Kate Raworth - she is brilliant and inspiring. People like her in positions of influence regenerate hope. See that lecture here. She comes on at 34 minutes and explains what doughnut eco is.
