I really like how this information is laid out: www.lunalunamagazine.com/dark/read-tarot-with-a-simple-deck-of-playing-cardsMight starting tinkering with this, I'll take it step by step. For now I like the idea of using cards as a beginner's set, as there are no illustrations. In the past I've gotten overwhelmed, trying to integrate the meanings and the drawings at the same time. Slow learner here, Saturn opposes Mercury.

I wanted to try the same thing, and never got around to it. Saturn square Mercury.

Playing cards were originally a divination tool and tarot was originally a card game. When I started reading I used playing cards, then moved onto tarot. They can be quite accurate, Whisperex also reads cartomancy and she has been accurate for me.

Thank you vg , but the credit goes to you as I heard from you that they can be used as divination tool. Ava What I do like about cartomancy is that the cards are the input that I need to clarify my thoughts on the question. Mercury opposition Moon . I still use this site here from time to time. cardseer.wordpress.com/basic-cartomancy-skills/Good luck on your study!

Thank you so much for the guidance vg and whisperix. Thanks for the empathy, anela. Does anyone have hints for how to begin? Do I just dive right in, trying to do a spread and interpret it? Also, I'm not sure how important it is to follow others' guidelines. In my mind, spades are earth, but the link I posted correlates spades with air. I'm not sure I can overcome my own preferences.

I've always correlated diamonds with Air? Spades have always been Earth for me as well. I've used them, and I agree that they can be accurate.

Thanks GK, I might have told you they can be used, but it is you who went of and did the reading Ava when i started i did a daily spread for my self and also referred to www.destinywitch.com/Pages/CartomancyCardMeanings.aspxTo be honest over time i realised(for me anyway) that definitions of cards differ from reader to reader, and i think cards are pulled based on the readers definition of that card.I dont think online interpretations are 100% for everyone.. When i read i look at the suits and the number, what does the number say to me and then try to make a little story out of it. For me the suits are generally (aside from kings, queens, jacks - they are people for me and for the most part neutral, and queen spades is not always bad and queen hearts is not always good etc..): Spades are thoughts Hearts are emotions Diamonds are physical things - money, people, communications Clubs- Action, communication, attraction example of numbers Aces - new beginnings, planting the seeds Twos - choices, two peoples, options, progress from the Ace etc... 9 is progress towards a goal 10 is the end point, end of the cycle the next step is going back to the ace, abundance etc.... These are some examples, i think its just how you feel when you read the cards. I started with a 5 card spread(some people prefer a 3) but for me the extra cards kind of emphasis on the energy of the spread... Pls dnt quote

Thanks vg! That's great advice, and I love the link! For now I'll try and ignore the element associations. 'Will have to start doing spreads soon. I only have a "Despicable Me" card set handy for now.
