- Rahu - "shadow" because it causes eclipses...in a literal sense it means, to hide or conceal - spokensanskrit.de for help with understanding other Vedic terms - Rahu doesn't control any sign, it has no mass, it's just a mathematical point in space. But there are some texts saying Rahu favors Aquarius... - Rahu is engrossed with the spirit of materialization...money gains, fame, success. It's about living the fast life. A strong Rahu means the person is into opulence. But Rahu is malefic. - Rahu and Ketu stay put for a year and a half - Rahu is friend with Venus and "Satan"...Saturn. - Rahu is Vata @ 3:45 ...Vata is wind or airy, it influences the mind, a Rahu person is in an advanced state of dreaming....creative people, musicians and so on, they have very strong Rahu. Rahu, too much imagination, verging on hallucination. Balance and common sense fighting with the inner mind of the person. Rahu people have success in material life but they are kind of weird; out-of-the-box thinking. They are disciplined though (Rahu friend of Satan). - Around the 11:00 minute mark, he starts explaining the mythology of Rahu
Usually I think I'm pretty decent at owning up to my flaws. I'm a Capricorn and we are too self-punishing, so maybe I have a little buffer up, where I don't want to see everything, but I can admit to a lot.
But that video above really doesn't describe me.
1. Most of that Nakshatra is in Libra, so I don't know why he thinks all the Scorpio stuff takes its most negative form possible (rape, molestation, serious sexual deviance.) Worst I've done in the "rape" category is lean over and kiss a guy on the lips when I was drunk. He didn't mind. Actually he is a Scorpio NN in Vedic and he turned the tables very fast...and he's not the only sexually aggressive Vedic Scorpio NN guy I dealt with. But I don't want to just pass the blame and try to incriminate anyone else. Just saying, that was my experience...
2. I photoshop my pictures to make it look like I have things I don't have? To me that would be legit insanity. How many insane people are there out there?
Oh well, it's no big deal but I would have liked a video that seemed more on point.
This too — "In Vedic astrology, the north and south nodes are called Rahu and Ketu respectively". Although NN, hence Rahu, does not have the negative meanings attached to it as in Vedic. There is nothing inauspicious about the NN.
I haven't watched yet. I admit to my flaws, too, unless I'm having an especially bad day where it seems like everything is flaw, and I need to find something good.
This is what bothers me about anything astrology-related, though. It's like the vedic version of Moon/Venus in Gemini having no soul, being a sociopath that you have to run away from.
You should see the interpretations of my Asc, anela. 😂
I'm stingy, conniving, sneaky, corrupt, etc. 😂 The only accuracy is that I'm suspicious and can see what others don't see about situations or people--which is why I tend to be mildly suspicious, depending on what I pick up on.
Once both the Gods and the demons agreed to form an alliance to produce nectar that confers immortality. That nectar was obtained by churning the oceans. When the nectar was being served to the gods, a demon disguised as a god, sat between the Sun and the Moon to get his share. He was recognised by the Sun and the Moon who complained to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu immediately severed the demon’s head with his Chakra (a circular weapon). But the demon had already consumed enough nectar to make him immortal. The severed head of the demon became Rahu and its body became Ketu. Ever since Rahu and Ketu avenge themselves on the Sun and the Moon when they come close. They swallow the Sun and the Moon causing eclipses.
However, this is something to note: just as in Western astrology there are differing viewpoints of the role played by Saturn, similarly, some Vedic astrologers tend to wrongly emphasise the negative qualities of Rahu and Ketu, forgetting the these are but the Moon’s nodes - points where the Moon’s orbits intersect a path.
Also, beware Indian astrologers who on the net offer services and advice to counter bad effects. This usually comprises expensive reports and use of semi-precious stones which they sell!!! That would explain the negative hype.
This has always been where I've given up on vedic, tbh. The aspect I'm the most proud of in my western natal chart is my Moon conjunct my North Node. However, in vedic astrology, this is absolutely one of the worst aspects you can have. I can't even tell you the amount of disgusting things I've read about it! I can barely relate to it.
The timing of this post is particularly startling as just yesterday I was watching KRS' video on the nakshatra of my NN and I could not relate to it in the slightest. You know when you try to see yourself objectively, and even think about how when you were a lesser person in the past maybe it could have applied...? I couldn't even do that.
Here's a few wonderful examples of what Rahu conjunct Chandra/Moon natives can look forward to..
"These people have lust for life, sex, relationships and exploration. If Rahu and the Moon are less than 5 degrees apart, then it will extremely hard for these people to stay put, or stay and focus on one thing. [...] Most people keep their fetishes to themselves, but these people actually take steps to fulfill those desires, whether it's having an affair with their married neighbor, having sexual or violent fantasies, or the desire to hurt someone. [...] If there is a person in your life who loves living with drama, most likely they their moon is in a tight relationship with Rahu." Source
"When the Moon and Rahu are in conjunction or together in the birth chart , Rahu amplifies the qualities of the Moon . These people are very immature about their emotions, they don’t know how to control emotions.Their emotional reactions is very extreme. These people exaggerate the emotions of life. These people are very sensitive and not focused. When the Moon and Rahu are in conjunction, it can amplify fear, anxiety, and unusual depression. It gives you illusions about things that really do not exist. This is why these people have unrealistic expectations for themselves and others, and when they do not come true, they go into a depression." Source
"It is considered the most malefic conjunction in astrology. The Moon with Rahu has a great psychological effect. This makes a person especially in childhood to have a great anger, a dreamer, very less differentiation between the real life and the dream world, unexplained aggression , high temper, fear of unknown(dark, unknown places etc). [...] Its very hard to find the positive effect of Rahu Moon conjunction as Rahu is inimical to Moon, until other factors in horoscope is not giving the ability to channelize this energy, negative traits are mostly seen." Source
"I’ve read that the Moon-Rahu conjunction is a VERY problematic conjunction which can cause mental illness in extreme cases. It also means that the main thing the person should focus on in this lifetime is focusing on their mind and emotions." Source
"This gives strong imagination but also leads to paranormal experiences, ghosts in dreams, differences with female relatives etc. It also causes multiple heart breaks, mental unrest, disturbing dreams, insomnia etc. They cannot handle relations with elders." Source
Not to be an ass but this just doesn't describe me or my life in the slightest.
Thank you for saying so Ava ♥ I do remember being very taken with your daughter's chart because of that aspect! I've always felt that having it in my natal has been nothing short of a blessing.
I would say the North Node is a type of independence. One isn't inclined towards groupthink because the aspect, when in close conjunction to a planet or angle in the natal, allows a sort of divine grace in the native. It's like the universe goes out of its way to whisper its secrets to you. One isn't easily swayed by what the majority thinks, because the native has access to a supreme type of intuition.
This would be detrimental in Indian culture. In Asia (as a whole), the community at large is God. You hardly exist as an individual. The Western concept of "rugged individualism" is nothing but selfish in Asian culture. You exist to serve your family, to help out your community, you're inextricably connected to the culture at large. If one has a NN/Rahu conjunction, the native would be less inclined to follow the herd and do their own thing by means of critical thinking - social suicide in Asian cultures.
Omg, athena! 😂 Not like we hang out every weekend, but I would almost be inclined to say that description is the opposite of what I know of you. Weird how the Moon descriptions can be so accurate in Vedic, but other things are like "Uhhh...no."
You are super intuitive...I think you have Jupiter in Cancer, too, don't you? I never underestimate that.
My daughter is a pretty amazing artist. I feel weird boasting about that but it's just true. Within a few months of practicing drawing, she could draw better than me, and I took drawing classes all my life, through college.
If there's a drawback here, it's that she doesn't seem to grasp the significance of it. She doesn't think it's a big deal, she doesn't have any desire to go to art school, she doesn't see herself as an artist. It's just...*shrug*..."so this is what I do." Maybe there is less ambition or less desire to use this for material gain, it's like she's already arrived, because her talent (NN attainment) is just so fully a part of her (moon on the NN).
As for the cultural differences....that's what I was thinking, too.
My Rahu Nakshatra is in the outcast, untouchable caste, and I can't help wondering if that's why it's so totally negative. Because, as he said, we are the outsiders....people outside the system...people who can't be trusted whatsoever, in a place where The System is considered all-important.
Violets You know in a way it's like we are neighbors! We're privvy to each others inner lives in such an intimate way on here, I seriously feel more familiar with you guys than I do my own irl friends more often than not And it *is* really weird how the Moon signs seem resonate more for all of us. They seem way more forgiving in a sense? It's like the astrologers give so much more breadth for the complexity of our feelings, but every other planet seems like this curse with very little room for improvement. As if they're permanent personality fixtures or something.
Ava You are the queen of intuition, trust that I aspire to get on your level! You're right in assuming I have Jupiter in Cancer Not a planet I think about often, but perhaps it comes in handy when we're discussing macro patterns in cultures at large (such as right now)
That's such an interesting tidbit about you and your daughter. You know how in western astrology we're taught that the energy of trines has a downside? There's always that warning - "be careful, too much of this and you'll take for granted the magnitude of these gifts"? Sometimes I feel like the NN when conjunct a luminary operates in a similar way - maybe taken up a few notches. There's such an effortlessness that the gifts become a mundane part of the native's identity?
The power went out in the middle of typing this so perhaps we're onto something
Ah yeah castes, another wonderful and uplifting part of Indian culture. They were supposedly abolished by the government a few years back but that fact seems to be lost on a lot of people considering how prevalent the classism still is there. Not to be ethnocentric or anything but stuff like that bums me out - the futility of it all. "This is what you are and this is what you shall always be - deal with it". This tone encapsulates so much of vedic lore (as you mentioned).
No, not really, sometimes my intuition is non-existent! But thanks!
LOL about the power going off. The Universe never seems to want people getting too close. We might uncover all the secrets! Plutonian universe.
I think you summarized the Vedic/Indian issue perfectly - that's how I see it.
No offense to India and Indians, if anything that is my favorite country, culture, and food. It's just not my favorite astrological approach, the fatalism. You know there is that point where pessimism works against realism, and astrology's main goal is to be accurate.

I like that idea! I've seen Ketu-planet conjunctions described as super fortunate, along these same lines.
Overall it seems like Vedic astrology decided the south node is the hero, the energy that will carry you through and put sparkles in your life, while the north node is the one to get away from - it seems like the exact inverse of Western.
