This thread is for anyone to share their preferred descriptions and/or links on different chart types: draconic, heliocentric, davison, etc. This would lead to greater clarity, and be a good resource for everyone. For beginners: this is a good site to learn about how the birth charts are composed, planets, signs and houses. astrolibrary.org/lessons

Draconic"The word 'Draconic' is from the Latin ' draconem' (nom. draco) "serpent, dragon," from the Greek drakon (gen. drakontos) meaning "serpent, seafish." In astrology, the Caput Draconis is the 'Dragon’s head' or North Lunar Node and the Cauda Draconis is the 'Dragon’s tail' or South Lunar Node. It just means that instead of the node being at the particular degree you're accustomed to seeing it, it is 'dialed back' to 0 degrees of Aries. The planets all stay in the same houses and have the same angular relationship (aspects) to each other as in the tropical zodiac charts but the signs and degrees are altered (unless you were already born with the North Node at 0 Aries. In that case, your Draconic chart is identical to your natal chart in the tropical zodiac. Draconic meaningLike the North Node, the Draconic chart says something about where we are headed, if we chose to reach out, and also like the South Node, it says something about where we have been, what's comforting, familiar and secure. Some think of the Draco chart as as the “purpose” behind the soul's intention and link it to a sense of destiny or fate." Extracts from: www.falconastrology.com/draconic.html Why is the Draconic Chart focused on zero degrees Aries? Consider that Aries is the starting gate, the Cardinal Sign of spring, the turning point of fresh beginnings, and symbolizes taking action that will lead to growth. Even the symbol for the sign Aries appears as a fountain of life gushing forth with vital force. ...as the Draconic chart is based on the Aries point which represents taking action, it follows that to manifest the best and highest of our nature we must deliberately seek the characteristics and concepts of the planets and signs Draconically pointed out. heavenlyhermit.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/the-draconic-chart-path-of-purpose.html
Draconic and relationshipsWhen the likely astrological links between two people are not found in the natal, progressed or directed charts, we look further afield. The Draconic chart provides pivotal information regarding the soul's purpose….. We have concluded that the Draconic chart can be categorised as karmic, spiritual and unconscious, with possible connections to reincarnation. It pinpoints those we draw close to us in our lifetimes, to resolve unconscious issues , which in turn connects to our state of physical and emotional health. It speaks less of free will than the basic natal chart. Through our Draconic chart we can discover how others are acutely, albeit subconsciously, aware of our soul's purpose and act accordingly -- opening life's doors and sometimes slamming them in our face. It traces where we came from (test it with parents and grandparent's charts) and where we are going (compare it with the charts of your children and soul mates). Links will be found by comparing Natal and Draconic charts, plus Draconic and Draconic. Draconic charts are also quite sensitve to transits, so compare the Draconic chart with transits of important events. When adjustments are made for the Draconic chart you may be surprised at the new zodiacal links which did not exist in the natal charts -- new clues as to life's learning curve through these important people. In the case of those born with the Northern Moon Nodes at 0-degrees Aries, the natal chart is also the Draconic chart -- suggesting a person directly in touch with their soul's purpose. www.astrologycosmobiology.com.au/articles/tutorial/draconic-chart.html

Ava , Just saw your thread on draconic composites. Would be great if you could add something here to give us an elementary view on the significance of a draconic composite chart and the progressed version.

Hi @astrokeen, Thank you for supplying some background information about draconic charts. I assume that information carries over to the draconic composite and draconic progressed composite. Mainly I've just been experimenting. I do consider how these composite charts might signify the deeper currents of a relationship, tides of fate, karma, past lives. So far I'm more focused on their accuracy as timing-tools. After all, if I can't see clear indications that the draconic composites are tracking with other astrological phenomena, syncing with them, highlighting connections at certain times, then I don't see much value reading them using standard reading techniques, with just a "fate" twist tacked on. In other words, first I am checking to make sure they are alive. It's all just homecooked research, I don't see many people talking about these things. I have the asteroid Drakonia conjunct Urania on my Saturn, I guess that's why I take it seriously.

That site also has some sample delineations of draconic planets. Not quite a one-stop shop for all draco analysis, but it's something. They make an attempt for sure.

Example, I have Scorpio moon in draconic. Could I assume a Taurus moon in where I've come from? I have no idea, hopefully someone else has information. But I remember with the reincarnation case of James Huston/James Leininger, where Huston reincarnated as Leininger.... there are a lot of oppositions: Huston's Libra stellium opposes Leninger's Aries stellium comprised of all the same planets. As I recall, their mean NN was identical, so these oppositions were preserved in the draconic charts as well. It's a well-publicized story: Wish I knew more cases.

hi! has anyone been able to add more information about draconic charts? i understand the aspects are all the same, but the signs are different. are there certain placements to look at for karmic relationships? could we just use synastry or is draconic better for personal use?

Hi astrobabe I think regular synastry is fine, most people just look at that, but at this point in my studies, I wouldn't want to ignore draconic, it would be like ignoring a whole planet. "are there certain placements to look at for karmic relationships?" This link that Astrokeen posted is my favorite article on draconics: www.astrologycosmobiology.com.au/articles/tutorial/draconic-chart.htmlThere seems to be a strong, naturally-occurring emphasis on luminaries and angles, but other planets show up as well: I think that article was written before Meghan entered the picture. Both Harry and Meghan have natal-to-draco luminary oppositions: 22 Virgo, his sun 21 Pisces, his draconic moon (And by the way: 22 Pisces, her draconic ASC, conjunct his draco IC at 17 Pisces) 4 Libra, her moon 10 Aries, her draconic sun (exactly squaring the Queen's draconic sun @ 10 Capricorn) Harry's draco sun in Cancer is conjunct Meghan's ASC. --- Speaking for myself, I've been more intent on finding draconic conjunctions than interpreting them. Draconic can appear in the most startling ways. For instance, I'm a Cap sun with Gemini Mars. Both my mother and mother-in-law are draconic Cap suns with draco Gem Mars. I don't know what that says about the three of us exactly, I'm just in awe of the pattern. I'm a Pisces moon, so was my mother-in-law. My mother may have been a draco Pisces moon (her father was one), and my daughter is a draco Pisces moon. Nothing in the tropical synastry suggests that level of interwovenness.

Oh wow! Thank you for the information. I do agree with you I believe there could be some level of importance with draconic. Thank you for sharing! I will dabble myself into and see what I find!

astrobabe you are in for some mindblowing observations, at least that was my reaction when I first started looking into the DRaconics and the tapestry they weave. It is just breathtakingly beautiful to see this.

t5, thanks for the link. Would you be able to add an introductory note on vibrational astrology here? Perhaps expand on what you have already written in your thread on the same? That would be helpful for many who have not encountered it.

I'm wondering if there's an easy way to check many harmonic charts at once using free software. Astro.com offers nine harmonics at once, 2-10. That's all I've found.

Ava ... Currently, that is likely to be all that can be found in the public domain. ... However, the free (Windows10 only) Astrocalc 6.5 software at www.astrocalc.com allows users to cycle through the charts of the first 60 harmonic aspects - on screen, and at the click of one mouse button.

@astrokeen ... Introductory Note on Vibrational AstrologyVibrational Astrology is a repackaging/combining of 3 astrology techniques - Harmonic Aspects + Mid-points + Planetary Pictures. ... This repackaging was devised by David Cochrane, and his 2018 introductory video on it ( ) is still perhaps the best starting point for those wanting to know more about it. ... However, he has since hosted annual conferences on Vibrational Astrology in 2019, 2020 and 2021; will do so again in 2022; has developed a training course that extends over some 2.5years, and is now encouraging the first graduates from that course to teach Vibrational Astrology via their own newly-created or existing astrology website. ... So, since this "practical and evidence-based" approach to astrology might be about to become "more popular than The Beatles", my own current/fledgling/"blind-leading-the-blind" understanding of it is outlined below. 1. Harmonics, Midpoints and Planetary Pictures 1.1 Harmonics and "Minor"/Non-Ptolemaic AspectsAlthough David Cochrane/Vibrational Astrologers insist that midpoints are "what VA is really about", the system/process relies heavily upon using harmonic/minor aspects rather than the ptolemaic aspects used in traditional astrology. ... So, whereas traditional astrologers consider only conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares and sextiles - Vibrational Astrologers use all/any aspect that can be derived by dividing the 360 degree circle by a whole number. ... Thus, there are considerably more aspects available for interpretation in Vibrational Astrology - and the theory is that a different behavioural trait is manifested for each primary whole number which the circle is divided by. ... Hence, logically and reasonably, Vibrational Astrologers believe this enables them to describe chart owners more accurately - which does indeed seem to be true, as astrologers learn more about the 5H quintile and 12H quincunx aspects that the astrological community have become increasingly comfortable with using since being introduced to harmonics by UK astrologer John Addey in the 1970s. 1.2 Midpoints
Midpoints are a feature of Medieval Astrology, but were updated-and-repackaged in the early 20th century as the Uranian System of Astrology/Cosmobiolgy ... and a detailed explanation of that can be found in the video + article at theuranianastrologer.com/new-blog-2/tag/midpoint+astrology . In Vibrational Astrology though, bodies that fall on the midpoint of an aspect between two planets create an isosceles triangle (or "energy flow") - which has a strong influence on the chart owner because the midpoint of an aspect is where the planets at both ends of it 'become one". Hence, the apex of those isosceles triangles have 3 (or more) bodies "vibrating"/working together to achieve whatever is promised for the apex planet/body/point in the natal chart. 1.3 Planetary PicturesMost of us will already be familiar with this technique, which requires planets/bodies/points to to be in aspect to each other but located at three or more different places in the chart - thus creating a shape/"picture"/configuration, consisting of three or more interconnected aspect lines. ... During the 20th century, some of these ptolemaic-aspect pictures were researched by traditional astrologers - which initially gave the astrological community a reliable/sound understanding of how energy flows in configurations such as the Grand Trine, Grand Square, Tsquare and the Kite. ... And - after John Addey presented his paper on harmonics to the community - planetary pictures involving the H5/quintile, H7/septile, H8/semisquare+sesquisquare and H12/semi-sextile+quincunx were researched. Thus, astrologers acquired a "first-stab" understanding of how energy flows in minor-aspect planetary pictures such as the Yod, Thor's Hammer and the Kites created when a planet/body/point is opposite their apex. And now ... Vibrational Astrology is actively researching the many harmonic-aspect planetary pictures that have not yet been identified-and-explored by the astrological community ... such as the Poleaxe configuration ... since logic dictates that these pictures are likely to be just as influential as those that have already been explored. 2. "Vibrating" Planetary Pictures - consisting of Minor Aspects, and including at least one planet at a midpoint. 2.1 The Poleaxe Configuration/Planetary Picture. This "vibrating" configuration/planetary-picture provides a good illustration of what Vibrational Astrology is currently bringing to the astrological community. ... Because traditional astrology does not enable it to be seen/noticed by astrologers, and it has a "higher harmonic" energy flow (24H) - thus manifesting from a subconscious level that makes the chart owner unlikely to be aware/conscious of it. ... Hence, this is an unconscious/inherent/habitual personality trait that may be significantly influencing the life-events of the chart owner - and Vibrational Astrology now provides him/her with a mechanism to become conscious/aware of that influence. The picture itself consists of a semi-sextile base and two 165/quindecile aspects to an apex that is at the far midpoint of the base. Thus, all planets/bodies/points located at any of the three corners of this isosceles triangle are "vibrating"/working-together to produce the 24H personality/behavioural trait created by the energy-flow of this configuration. Hence, the Poleaxe contains all the factors that Vibrational Astrologers use to identify strong influences upon the personality/behaviour of chart owners - which he/she is unlikely to be consciously aware of. [Note : A brief explanation of Vibrational Astrology (by a practitioner) can also be found at notjustdetails.com/theory-and-ideas/vibrational-astrology/ ... and David Cochrane is currently providing a 2021 you tube video series called The Vibrational Astrology Show.]

Here are some resources that explain what an ephemeris is and how to read one: askastrology.com/how-to-read-an-ephemeris/ If you prefer a video, scroll down to the bottom of this link: theastrologypodcast.com/2021/05/20/how-to-read-an-ephemeris/ Astro.com says, "Normally we create midnight ephemerides." www.astro.com/swisseph/swepha_e.htmSo the transits listed in astro.com's basic ephemerides are for midnight, Universal Time/GMT. So if you search "ephemeris for year ____ " (fill in the blank) on an internet search engine, and you go to astrodienst, do note the timing for the transits listed. I had always assumed they were noon transits until I learned otherwise. Additionally if you have an astro.com account, you can create your own ephemerides. This enables you to customize and see asteroid transits for the year, draconic transits, and other transits according to preference. From the main page, after you sign in: 1. Click Charts and Calculations 2. Scroll down to Ephemeris and click "Create a Custom Ephemeris" 3. Have fun
