That smoothie sounds delicious! Glad to know the mask worked for you, Violets . Ava , it doesn't stain the skin per se - it'll be more of a glow than anything. But if you do notice a yellow undertone, it usually goes away pretty quickly too.

Oh but I do still make smoothies for the kids Board of Health, please take note. The closest we come to smoothies in our house are those Odwalla superfood bottles you buy in the store, lol. Otherwise, washing the blender is required, which is considered an abomination in my religion (okay, I made that up). But yeah, my oldest son eats cereal with bananas, or toast with sliced apples basically every morning. He doesn't get sick of it, so...great! Five minutes and minimal dish washing.

But yeah, the turmeric didn't stain my skin, my little paste worked very nicely, I have to say! I'd probably do better to eat a teaspoon of the paste, and skip the "flavored" coffee route (might try that tomorrow).

I have tamarind in the fridge. I finally found a tiny Indian store in Canton, when we stopped off at a pizza place dad wanted to try, during the Summer. I love it when that happens.
I don't like turmeric milk, I first tried it two years ago (yikes, still not used to 2016 being two years ago now - it's going too fast). I add a bit of the paste to hot chocolate, if I'm not eating it in soup, but I much prefer the soup method. Mixing it with pineapple in a smoothie isn't that bad, either.
I just wish I'd made the turmeric paste sooner again, for my dog. I remember someone saying in the turmeric (tug) group on Facebook, that it should protect his kidneys, from the medicine he's been on. I've been so out of it - I should have found that one person on etsy that sells jars of the stuff. But I have him on half a capsule of goldenseal, twice a day, until the vet calls us back, about antibiotics. I wanted him into the emergency vet, but he's perked up. I don't know why I didn't think of goldenseal, the first time I thought he had a problem. I know it's like a herbal antibiotic.

That soup I make, is something that can be had as a broth. Just don't add the pasta, and drain the vegetables. I make it in the instant pot, and add two cups of water to the broth, because the pasta soaks it up.
4 cups of broth 2 cups of water - added to:
one onion that's been sautéed in a bit of oil. one stalk of celery, chopped one carrot, chopped 2 or 3 cloves of garlic, minced 2 tsp turmeric powder minced ginger or some powdered ginger a handful of fresh parsley, or at least one tbsp dried 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes salt and pepper to taste If you want pasta: 2/3 cup of orzo
when it's finished cooking, at 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar, and 2 tsp of miso (light miso). I squeeze in some lime juice, to cut the strength of the turmeric.

Omfg... It was more disgusting to try a spoonful of the turmeric paste, lol. No. Just no. I'll just stick with adding it to some hot beverage (yeah, maybe not coffee, although that's the most expedient route for me). I don't buy the capsules because they're too expensive for me, when I can buy it in bulk for like $2. Probably more palatable, though!

I wish I always liked the super-healthy choices. Almost a year ago, when I had an ear infection for three weeks, I tried making a drink out of cocoa reishi tea, and it was horrible. I ended up dumping an envelope of hot chocolate into it, and blending it up.
I'm hoping to make more turmeric broth tonight. I have the lime juice for it. I finally made the paste for my dog again. He was worrying me again, but he ate some toast and cheese, so he has an appetite.

The turmeric-milk is milder, hence more palatable (well, relatively so). If you like, you could sweeten that with honey. I've heard there are teas too, so there's another hot beverage.

anela , That's right, a lot of medicine can be too heavy for the system and leave residue in the kidneys - since the body can't filter them properly. It happens to humans too, no wonder your dog's been having a rough go of it. Good to know he's got his appetite back!

I'm starting to think of my daily soup as a kind of supplement swamp. lol It started with just hot sauce, garlic & onions, and chopped spinach for healthy add-ins, now it's also got the turmeric, and I'm trying to use more chicken broth for collagen, plus a dried shiitake mushroom which turns it all brown. Oh and sometimes I salt it with miso. I should probably go whole-hog and sprinkle it seaweed or nutritional yeast. New Age porridge.

I consider much of that my "medical budget."

I get it at Giant Eagle, or the health food store. It's made by Rebbl.

Ah, that's good to hear, anela . Big hugs to you and your animal friends. 💕💕💕 Thank you! I've just given him an antibiotic. There is protein in his urine, and they asked if he was holding it, or if it is involuntary when he goes. We don't know, since he can't walk, but he was holding it at first, so I'm afraid his kidneys might now be damaged. I'm kicking myself for not getting more turmeric paste made sooner, if it does protect the kidneys. And hoping that it's a UTI and nothing more. I was going to start giving him flax oil with cottage cheese again, but they've given him an omega 3 supplement - goes to show I should have been following my instincts more, since that was one of the first things I thought of. I've just been a mess personally, and I hate that it affects my pets, when I'm not "on the ball".

I've just made this, and it isn't bad. I used really raw honey, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying "really raw" honey - the heat probably damaged it. But it's very sweet. I might add a little something to it, like lemon, but it's better than the other turmeric tea I once tried, or the milk I didn't like. www.101cookbooks.com/archives/instant-pot-dynamite-cold-tonic-recipe.html

From "The Ayurveda Way":
" When used regularly in cooking, turmeric supports your digestive system by making your food more appetizing. Its cleansing effect helps free you from toxicity while fighting excess fat and ulcers. After it is digested, it purifies your blood. Small, regular doses of turmeric, therefore, are of real benefit if you suffer from anemia or any other blood-based disease. It also has a fabulous anti-inflammatory effect."
She has an anti-wrinkle and anti-acne facial recipe, but I haven't clicked to it yet. I'm just looking at it, to see if I want to buy it in proper book form, so I hope Amazon doesn't penalize me for returning the kindle book. I'll be buying the book through them again, if I do buy it. I wonder if this is why I'm only mildly anemic though (now). I used to be extremely pale, dark circles under my eyes, and exhausted. Turmeric tends to wake me up, when I eat it in soup. I'll be relaxed at first, and then awake for a while.
She also says just a quarter of a teaspoon a day will help people, that some people go too far. I've seen that - recipes containing two tablespoons and such - two teaspoons has been enough for me, in a soup that lasts several days, or a week (although she says not to eat anything that was prepared more than a day before - I can't eat that much in one day).
