In his book Harmonics In Astrology, John Addey wrote about the 13th Harmonic Aspects.
He wrote:
The number 13 is also interesting. It represents the one in the midst of the twelve and so suggests the idea of spiritual (?) lordship. Keith Crichlow in his valuable study of Order in Space points out that twelve spheres of equal size will exactly fit round a central sphere of the same size so that all are exactly touching their neighbors. The aspects in the thirteenth series as follows:
27°42', 55°23', 83°05', 110°46', 138°28', 166°09'
Tje Latin word for 13 is tredecim.
With that in mind and applying logic based on how specific harmonic aspects have been labled like with the 6th harmonic being Sextile, 7th harmonic being Septile, 8th harmonic being octile, 9th harmonic being Novile, 10th harmonic being Decile, 11th harmonic being Undecile, etc.
27°42' is 1/13 - Tredecile (108° ,the 3/10 is actually TriDecile which is also known as Sesqui-quintile which is the actual name that Solar Fire uses for the aspect)
55°23' is 2/13 - BiTredecile
83°05' is 3/13 - TriTredecile
110°46' is 4/13 - QuadriTredecile
138°28' is 5/13 - QuinqueTredecile
166°09 is 6/13 - SexTredecile
Based on 15 degree orb for the Conjunction, the harmonic proportionate orb for the 13th harmonic aspects is 1 degree, 9 minutes.
The QuinqueTredecile (138°28') runs into the Golden Mean Aspect(137°30) which is the 55/144 aspect. The Golden Mean Aspect's harmonic of 144 is far higher than the QuinqueTredecile's harmonic of 13. The higher the harmonic, the narrower the harmonic proportionate orb. Based on 15 degree orb for the Conjunction, the harmonic proportionate orb for the 144th harmonic aspect is only 6 minutes. I don't know any astrologer that works with 144th harmonic aspects, and so ignoring the 144th harmonic aspect in favor of the much lower harmonic 13th harmonic aspects seems sensible. However, The Golden Mean is a Transcendental Number that has been been referred to as Divine Proportion and a important part of Sacred Geometry and tied to the Fibonacci numebers. Dr. Theodor Landscheidt thought it was important enough to create astrological aspects based off the Golden Mean. The Golden Mean Aspect has many correlating Fibonacci harmonic aspects that have Fibonacci numbers as both numerator and denominator (its primary 55/144 is just one example) which I have shown in my blog post about the Golden Mean Aspect and its harmonics.
The SexTredecile (166°09) is an an aspect that is run into if using a wide orb of 2 1/2 to 3 degrees for the 11/24 aspect UndeciVinginquartile (165°) which has been given the name, Quindecile by Noel Tyl even though the name had already been given to the 1/15 aspect which is 24°. I happen to have Venus SexTredecile Saturn with an orb of 30 minutes.
The Harmonic proportionate orb for the 24th harmonic aspects based on the Conjunction being 15 degrees is 38 minutes. The Harmonic proportionate orb for the 15th harmonic aspects, which have been in existence since Johannes Kepler, is 1 degree.
The 7/15 aspect The SeptQuindecile (168°) is another aspect that is run into if using a wide orb of 3 degrees for the UndeciVinginquartile.
The 5/11 aspect The QuinqueUndecile (163°38'10'') is another aspect that is run into if using a wide orb of 2 1/2 to 3 degrees for the UndeciVinginquartile. I happen to have Mercury QuinqueUndecile Saturn with an orb of 25 minutes and part of a 11th Harmonic Aspect with Mars, Uranus, and Pluto's fellow TransNeptunian Dwarf Planet/candidate Detached Object (Out There) Sedna that is so symmetrical that includes 1 Isosceles Trapezoid and 4 Isosceles Triangles with corresponding midpoint pictures. I am highly geometrically oriented in how I do Astrology without use of a house system nor zodiac interpretation, and so I definitely take Combined Planetary Geometry into account since my studies of Magi Astrology, Cosmobiology, and Uranian Astrology for many years. The 11th harmonic aspects is one of the main reasons that I disagreed with the orb that Noel Tyl and his followers use for the 11/24th aspect.
John Addey noted that searching for representations of the number 13 in art, literature, etc., one thinks of the Last Supper and used to be a favorite theme of artists. Addey wrote that Leonardo da Vinci's painting is usually given pre-eminence because he evidently gave more thought to the whole subject.
John Addey pointed out that Leonardo da Vinci has a 13th harmonic aspect Venus 138°28 Saturn with an orb of 7 minutes. He wrote that the aspects of Saturn and Venus are always important in the maps of artists because they relate to the effort to give shape and form to the beautiful.
There is a problem with what he wrote about Leonard. It is based on the April 15, 1452 birthdate that Noel Tyl used for Leonardo da Vinci which made him think that Leonardo had a Moon 165° Neptune even though Astrodatabank has Leonardo's birthdate as April 15, 1452 with considering Florentine time. With the April 14, 1452 birthdate, Leonardo doesn't have Moon 165° Neptune nor Venus 138°28 Saturn.
However, he does have multiple 13th harmonic aspects that include:
Midheaven QuinqueTredecile Mars - 34 min
Moon QuinqueTredecile Saturn - 24 min
Moon QuinqueTredecile Uranus - 38 min
Moon QuinqueTredecile North Lunar Node - 43 min
Venus TriTredecile Jupiter - 6 min
Venus QuinqueTredecile North Lunar Node - 58 min
(it's also an exact Golden Mean Aspect of 137'30)
Maybe Venus and Jupiter in 13th harmonic aspect might factor into religious expression in art.
Jupiter TriTredecile North Lunar Node - 52 min
Venus, Jupiter, and North Lunar Node are in a 13th Harmonic Triangle.
Saturn TriTredecile North Lunar Node - 19 min
I had looked at the 13th harmonic aspects in my chart.
Sun QuadriTredecile Mars - 12 min
Moon QuinqueTredecile Uranus - 34 min
Moon QuinqueTredecile Orcus - 49 min
Uranus TriTredecile Orcus - 15 min
13th Harmonic Isosceles Triangle with a corresponding midpoint picture of
Moon oppose Uranus/Orcus - 40 min
(For many years, I have known that I have this midpoint picture, but I had no idea that it was because of the 13th Harmonic Triangle.)
Orcus is another of Pluto's fellow Trans-Neptunian Dwarf Planets, and so it's an Evolutionary Intensified Object. It has 2:3 orbital resonance with Neptune like Pluto does, and so it's categorized as Plutino.
My Moon, Uranus, Orcus 13th Harmonic Triangle could be a factor in my being into Astrology like
Mercury TriTredecile North Lunar Node - 56 min
Venus SexTredecile Saturn - 30 min
I have been working on a Divergent Astrology blog post about Leonardo da Vinci, and I am actually done with that and will add to my blog after my next blog post The 11th Harmonic Aspects. However, I decided that I will include the 13th Harmonic aspects. He has another triangle that involves another harmonic and might be an astrological indicator of his genius, but most mainstream astrologers would certainly dismiss it even though some astrologers work with the minor 24th harmonic aspects and give them an orb of 2 1/2 to 3 degrees which runs into aspects of lower harmonics which I have already pointed out.
There is a great diversity among Astrologers that include a Tower of Babel that Steven Forrest has pointed out when he was speaking about the Future of Astrology at NORWAC in 2007, and aspects and their orbs are part of that hot debate. "One True Astrology" is a myth. Just like there are many religions and spiritual practices, there are many astrological systems. A lot of it is relative and arbitrary. I have definitely changed my views about Astrology over the years.
I gradually changed being passionate about mainstream Tropical Zodiac Astrology to being a Sidereal Zodiac user with a Keplerian approach to Astrology that works with only aspects, but I have a strong interest in the original Babylonian symbolism of the zodiac signs which is quite different from how both Sidereal Zodiac signs and Tropical Zodiac signs are viewed.
