Yes, actually that is the case. Or at least I read that in an astrology book once, that for that reason Libras are considered being able to see both sides, because in a way they look from an outside perspective, and if the scales are in real balance (though for most Libra`s that is an ideal, not a reality necessarily), they can be the epitome of fairness, justice and objectivity, more than any other sign. But we are talking about a symbolic approach here, and in daily life, I have not noticed LIbra`s to have already reached that ideal state per se. (though many are actually trying to and my libra aunt sometimes drives me crazy, because she is so adamant on that, seeing both sides, fairness, etc. but at the same time, since she is a human being, she is of course subjective, but she cannot really see herself like that. But every other zodiacsign of course also has those shadows that they will not really see about themselves or refuse to accept they exist. But on a good day Libras really have a good grasp on seeing both sides of a story or issue, mostly when they manage to stay a step back from the issue at hand)

In this thread I can only see one post, which is a little odd, maybe it's glitching and there are several replies. Therefore I hope I'm not repeating anything someone said.
The mythology for Libra I much more recent than other parts of the chart. The sign is said to come from what used to be the claws of the scorpion. And maybe it fits with law and fairness to join the world of the living later in our historical life. It's not really part of the instinctual self. It's also the one sign that's an object and has no life, furthest removed from our primal selves. Saturn is exalted here, the enforcer of rules and laws.
I don't think Libras are fair, per se, but as an air sign, a mental sign, the archetype lives in the mental ideals about human life. Mental ideals about balance, how we should be. A relative of mine, a young man grew up with strong ideals about marsian masculinity archetype being wrong. As a Libra he gave internalised these ideals to a impeding degree. So much so that the sex drive is effected, tha subjective part of wanting. Self satisfaction for a man was seen as very wrong in his family. He had seemingly complied to the fairness decided by the clique of people. I see Libras journey as much about finding their own subjectivity and humanity and living more from within than dictated by their ideals. Often a little longer maturity process than others.
I once read an advice for parents raising a Libra child. One was, help them know what's appropriate in new situations. It seems so weird knowing how Libra is known for its ease in social rules. But then I thought deeper on it and reflected that I would have loved some guidance around this as a child. Because it was important to me having someone kindly explain would have saved me lots of stress and worrying trying to figure out what wss appropriate.
