A Brief History of Solar Chart Astrology
Solar Chart, AKA Solar Houses, Sun Sign Houses or even Sun Sign Astrology. It’s used in both eastern and western schools, with tropical, sidereal or Draconic zodiacs. Solar Charts were developed by ancient astrologers, went underground, then resurfaced in the 1930s when horoscope columns started appearing in newspapers and magazines.
You can use Solar Charts as a handy way to create a birth horoscope when there is an unknown birth time, or, as a predictive tool. It’s also a cool way to look at daily transits. You definitely want to get a handle on this if you’re going to write sun sign columns!
Solar Charts are simple, easy and effective. Here’s what you need to know.
Creating the Solar Chart
Solar charts are created by putting the natal sun sign on the Ascendant and using whole houses from there.
For example, if you are a Leo with Scorp rising in the Placidus house system, in the solar house system you would place zero degrees of Leo (the Sun sign) on the Ascendant. Zero Virgo is on the 2nd house cusp, zero Libra on the third and so on. If you are a sun in Aquarius, then zero Aquarius goes on the Ascendant, zero Pisces on the 2nd house, zero Aries on the 3rd and so on. Whatever sign of the zodiac the Sun is in, zero degrees of that becomes the first house, and then zero degrees of the sign after that becomes the second house, right around the clock. Try that right now with your own chart.

Astro.com doesn't offer a solar chart, not that I can find. To create this chart, I used trial and error to locate the time when the ASC was @ 0.00 Capricorn on the day I was born and selected "whole signs" for the House system.
