Gift Guide based on the Star Signs

Lets discuss the gift ideas based on the star signs, in case someone needs to do last minute shopping this year or for any other occasion.

I find that all of the online guides are very hit and miss with their suggestions and mostly based on the traditional cliches surrounding each Sun sign. Not saying that they wrong for everyone though, at the end of the day these stereotypes had to start somewhere.

Yeah, absolutely. I never thought anyone took those guides seriously.. I agree they're cutesy and all - but you can hardly find clues on the internet as to what your friend/family member would like. The answer is simply to pay attention to them. Individual preference is hard to pin down without actually knowing the person.

In terms of astrology, though - I believe we'd be better off looking at their Venus sign, or a combination of their luminaries and Venus. Venus is how we show affection and what makes us feel loved - so that's a good start. Only in the broadest sense, though. From there on out, we can customize according to their likes/dislikes.

I'll try to be back later with thoughts on Kelli's list. Normally, I like what she says, but this rubs me the wrong way (if she meant it seriously). It's just that I find the *way* this astro-knowledge is adapted is ... not great. We'd be better served with high-level "principles" (if we must have guidelines) rather than actual object recommendations..

I am a scorpio and the suggestions would work for me . I differ in one respect - I usually don't like to be surprised! Funnily enough, I also like to know the ending of movies in advance.

I agree with everything you are saying @12yearsablob.

Leos for example are always portrayed as attention-seeking and flamboyant people who like everything luxurious and flashy, things that would make others jealous. I'm completely opposite to that. I would love a "me time" gift though, such as facial or manicure, but it also has a hint of Virgo (my Venus) influence as it's something that would make me look "neat".

From the list I've posted, I'd love everything suggested for a Scorpio and 1-2 things for other signs, like candles, cooking books/lessons, trips, extreme classes.

^ This part is true for me. Basically, it shows they care - so what does it matter what form the physical gift takes?

However, it's more than that too. On some level, I develop a genuine fondness for that thing. Even if it's something I normally don't like - having it as a gift takes on new meaning. So, if I'd ordinarily roll my eyes at that sort of thing, when my friend gives it to me, I think, "oh, I guess this is cute after all.."

It's happened to me a few times. Most recently, my friend bought me this thing that was hard to transport (I had to lug it across the Atlantic - well not literally, but you know...). It's something I don't usually care for. At best, it was "meh" on the list of things-I'd-want-in-my-house. But she gave it to me (actually, she got two identical versions - one for each of us). Now it's sitting on my shelf in the living room, next to other knickknacks, and I like it more and more each day.

That is such a nice trait to have. It probably feels even more special since your friend also has this item. Reminds me of the "Best Friends" pendants.

Actually, my Libra husband always says that the thought counts. Last Christmas I decided to shock/surprise him, just to see his reaction. I bought a box of his favourite white Lindt chocolates, but hid the tickets for his favourite bands concert. He was so happy to unwrap the gift only to see the box of chocolates. I could see for a second he was a bit disappointed, but it quickly passed once he started to open up the box. Then he saw the tickets, but I could really get away with sweets.

Libras in my experience are not materialistic when it comes to gifts.

My Venus is in Virgo, but I do have a strong Pluto as well, so I relate to that stuff. As for the ones mentioned here, yeah, I like some of the themes they're going for. If I got something like that that was personally relevant to me (hello, Virgo Venus), I'd like it.

And that story about your husband is so sweet! Yes, you could literally get away with anything.

:edit: Well, I was just saying that these articles hype up the s** stuff but we should probably take those recommendations with a grain of salt. Depends on them, you, your relationship to them, etc.

Venus also in Scorpio. My Sun is close to the Libra/Scorpio cusp though which may lessen the intensity/mystery focus.

Comparing my sun and Venus sign, I think I do prefer the sun list. I would even take a briefcase, yup. 

As a side note, all the Caps I have ever known adore food. Seriously I suspect we like food even more than Tauruses. When I think back to everything given to me by Caps, there's a lot to do with food: cookbooks, cooking gear, special napkins, novelty items, refrigerator magnets.

Seasonal thread

Recent purchases reminded me of this discussion. I, my sister, and Mom went the "practical" route and got my other sister a set of chairs with velvet seats she was dreaming of. She's Taurus Sun/Venus 1H.
