Ava Thank you very much for the video. I will watch it tomorrow. the89freespirit Interesting point on the subtle attitude towards the progressed rising sign. I do like your example with the walk. I will moulder over it.

I used to not be graceful at all, thanks to the Aquarius Ascendant, and my walk is very naturally disjointed and weird. When I don't think about it, even to this day, it's like my limbs are rebelling against me and I'm like "what is my body doing?!" But, when I think about it, the progressed Ascendant comes out and allows me to kind of "ride the waves" in my mannerisms. LOL I don't have a solid, official birth time so I can't mark out the time when my pr ASC became Virgo. With the rectified birth time I use, my ASC moved into Virgo at a turning point in my life where I feel that I became more sensible and rational about certain things. I think anyone who knows me would also say that I changed for the better around that time frame.

On topic: I have found this online and the description of my rising sign and those of my children fits. Aries Rising | head pokes forward, pugnacious stance (like a boxer) talks fast and/or clipped, can’t hide boredom or impatience. | Taurus Rising
| juicy looking, like they make more collagen than normal people, cow-eyes, moves slowly, big-bonded | Gemini Rising | tends to being thin, the ladies like things that jangle, fidgets, flings random talk bombs into the conversation just to change the subject. | Cancer Rising | Bony and/or muscular with bulbous eyes, often remains super quiet and then when they open their mouth, it’s a quality statement. | Leo Rising | looks and acts just like a cat, sometimes has flat face & big mane, a la a Lion. Can crack a tantrum when attention is off them. | Virgo Rising | quick, effective movements, like a martial artist or dancer, nimble, thrums with nervous energy. Likes to impart useful info. | Libra Rising | they look like the elves in The Hobbit, symmetrical features, easily disturbed by discordant or coarse environments. They just bolt. Possibly with your partner. | Scorpio Rising | if the person looks like a vampire or descendent of aristocratic but vaguely evil New Orleans Witch dynasty suspect Scorpio Rising. | Sagittarius Rising | loud, long legs & a ready laugh + they’re always just back from some place exotic or going some place exotic soon. | Capricorn Rising | mournful countenance in repose but lights up beautifully, cheekbones, seriously good strategic planner & likes one-upmanship. | Aquarius Rising | if they seem like they could plausibly be an alien or a walk-in, suspect Aquarius Rising. Also: hates jewellery, body clutter, small talk, most traditions. | Pisces Rising | Goo-goo eyes, good skin, deceptive air of bland innocence – fluctuates alarmingly between hyper-gush/you-are-my-soulmate and genuinely not giving a shit . |

whisperixGlad you found all of that useful. And I recognize those Rising sign descriptions from Mystic Medusa. Her blog is awesome! She has a whole series on style choices for the Rising signs, too. I also love her "low-haute" profiles for every sign, basically speaking of the best and the worst qualities of the sign.

These people come across as gentle creatures. There’s something familiar about them — they’re the guy or gal next door. When they enter a room, they don’t walk in with a splash. Instead, they move to the sides and weave their way inwards. These people have a familiar feel to them. Because they are rather sensitive to their environment, they can get flustered easily, especially in public.
Their first instinct, when threatened or on unfamiliar ground, is to protect themselves. When new situations present themselves, they can immediately withdraw or act shy. Generally, these people come across as caring people. They seem quite sweet — even innocent. Usually, these people appear unassuming enough to be quite approachable. Some Cancer Ascendants, however, have retreated into themselves so much as to be quite the opposite.
Since Capricorn is on the Descendant, Cancer Ascendant people are looking for structure and security in their partner and their relationship. These people function best when their partner displays strength, financial and emotional stability, and know-how. In fact, many Cancer Ascendants prefer it when their relationship has well-defined rules. Security is the basic need, and they are generally more than willing to give up some personal freedom in order to get it. In some cases, Cancer Ascendant people can surprise their partners. Why? Because they come across as rather unassuming, family-oriented people. When it comes to marriage, they have a rather matter-of-fact, practical approach.cafeastrology.com/cancer_ascendantrisingsign.html

From cafeastrology:
Leo rising people cannot help but be noticed. They radiate a special energy and magnetism that gets others’ attention. Sometimes it’s because they are loud people who pay a lot of attention to their personal appearance (especially their hair!); other times it’s due to a regal manner that simply demands interest from others.
Leo Ascendant people are very self-aware and body-conscious. They are acutely aware of others, and how they come across. In fact, these people are especially aware of their personal “backdrop”–they consider what the people they’re with, and the environments they are in, do to their own image. Often, Leo rising natives feel as if they are on stage, even in the privacy of their own homes!
They are given to rash decisions, temper tantrums, and excesses. However, they have plenty of staying power, drive, and their idealism keeps them from getting into too much trouble. The desire to oversee the goings-on in their circle can sometimes amount to bossiness. If this desire doesn’t go too far, however, it can just mean a person who wants to make sure the people they love are all right. Many Leo rising people are managers, either by profession or character.
The tendency to overestimate things, and themselves, is generally present. This is due to a natural enthusiasm and optimism about any new undertaking. Sometimes, they are walking commercials. In fact, Leo rising people make excellent promoters.
Leo rising people are generally demonstrative, and given to grand gestures. Drama comes naturally to these natives. In fact, some are so caught up in fiction, they’re a little blind to fact. They have an unusual need to be admired.
Leo Ascendants often have a strong physical constitution. They pay special attention to their personal appearance and mannerisms. Usually, they choose clothing and hairstyles that are youthful. Their manner is authoritarian and strong.
No matter their age in real-world terms, Leo rising people are kids at heart. They are fun-loving and warm; generous and spirited.
Just how magnanimous and outgoing a Leo rising individual is will be modified by the placement of the Sun by sign and house. This is because the ruling planet of a Leo Ascendant is the Sun. For example, a Leo rising person with Sun in Virgo may not come across as strongly as a Leo rising person with Sun in Aries. No matter the placement of the Sun, however, Leo rising natives are quite self-aware and optimistic. They have a natural flair for presentation, an eye for quality, and a hard-to-resist warmth of style. They want to make things happen, and create a stir.

I put the parts in bold that I am noticing with extra clarity, as I watch videos.
Leo Rising also seems to want to let people know exactly how they are feeling, giving more details about their personal lives, probably because the whole sun/ego is coming forward. So I'm seeing how Leo ASC will open up about problems, secret insecurities, whatever is happening...trying to find a way to also make that respectable (see Selena Gomez, especially.)
I have Leo rising and I do this. I thought it was my Gemini Mars that pushed boundaries in communication but after seeing the video clips, I think it's my ASC.
Also, the effort to integrate joy and sorrow, to laugh off misery...I think all successful people try to do this, but Leo ASC seems to undertake that with more focus.
Astrologer Alyssa Sharpe goes so far as to call Leo ASC people "liars" because of our insistence on keeping things positive when we are around people. To me, it doesn't feel like a lie. It feels like a natural instinct, to keep going back to an upbeat mental/emotional space.

Ava , I love this! You see the similarities between everyone so clearly when you line up all the videos in a row. Their interviews even unfold in similar ways. For Cancer Rising, there is a gentleness and a sensitivity you can see in all of them. They do all have this vibe that makes it easy for others to put their guard down. For instance, I had no idea that John Cena was a Cancer Ascendant. But, it makes sense because he is really so cuddly and warm for a guy his size, to the point where you totally forget about him being such a big guy. He doesn't act like it at all. I feel like the Cancer Rising soft touch is even more noticeable in men because none of them ever seem like they would ever hurt you, at least not willingly. My dad has this Ascendant and he is extremely soft-spoken and very careful to not hurt your feelings (he also has a Libra Moon in the 4th as his chart ruler, so I feel like his case is more dramatic). Also, you can tell their comfort level because they start looking at you and speaking to you "sideways" when they're feeling unsure around you or uncomfortable with the topic (something I've noticed in my father in real life). The Leo Risings, on the other hand, seem to be this interesting mix of self-confident and self-conscious. You really do a good job at picking videos where they are all giving similar responses and discussing similar topics, like Meryl worrying about being "old news" and Justin saying he is constantly aware of the journey he's on (which is not an answer a lot of celebrities give to questions like that). It is this hyper-awareness of themselves and their lives or what people think of them. It does hint at a certain insecurity or fragility, as well, which is nonetheless covered up by a lot of bravado, an insistence on being positive, or laughing it off, like you said. Leo Ascendants definitely are not liars. You guys are very upfront with who you are. Alyssa sometimes exaggerates things or doesn't put things into words too articulately. But, what I think she was trying to say is that you guys do have a lot of that bravado and even when you're admitting fault or insecurity, you never want to be pathetic about it. As a Leo Sun, I definitely get that as I myself tend to only share things like that when I'm still feeling strong and am not going to fall apart. Cancer is also on the 12th House cusp for most Leo Risings, so I think that directly expressing weakness or insecurity, which is not quite the same thing as vulnerability, is hard for you guys. Even if you seem to do so, you do it with a certain strength. When Meryl says she didn't think she had a chance of getting nominated, she didn't sound self-pitying or even all that self-deprecating, like a Virgo Rising might. She is just taking what some people have said about her (which she clearly reads, unlike many actors) and being self-aware based off of that. But, that doesn't mean she doesn't like herself. And if she did, you wouldn't know it.

I'm just so thrilled to have your insights and observations, the89freespirit. To me, the rising signs are clear when you watch examples. I'm happy that they're clear to you, too. That helps validate the whole approach and project...I'm not just imagining these differences. So for instance, Ben Affleck is a Leo sun and has similarities with Leo ASCs, but I notice that his voice cracks sometimes, he looks oddly on the verge of tears...you know, it's these subtle cues of emotionalism that gave rise to the "Sad Affleck" meme. And Cancer ASCs have Gemini in the 12th, so they probably do communicate their secrets more, if only with facial expressions. "Also, you can tell their comfort level because they start looking at you and speaking to you 'sideways' when they're feeling unsure around you or uncomfortable with the topic (something I've noticed in my father in real life)." My husband is also a Cancer ASC with 4H Libra moon, and that's a consistent trait of his, he doesn't make direct eye contact that often. He's not always nice but when he is, I'd say he can be downright seductive, because his emotional displays are so beautiful (Libra moon!) and well-timed (Virgo planets.) Your comment about 12H Cancer rings true for me, and I really ought to brand that into my brain because I always forget. My 8H Pisces moon rules my 12H and people in my life have remembered times when I took non-talking and non-sharing to an extreme. I wasn't trying to deceive anyone, it's just that I felt very strongly that my issues were mine alone. Maybe there was a bit of Leo self-centeredness to blame: this is MY issue. And I wasn't thinking about it enough to notice how it was also their issue. "When Meryl says she didn't think she had a chance of getting nominated, she didn't sound self-pitying or even all that self-deprecating, like a Virgo Rising might." Ooo I can't wait to get to Virgo Rising! Might do that later today.

Yes, Ava , you've really inspired me to do this kind of research on my own. It makes sense that watching all of these interviews back-to-back would help you see the Rising sign in a more observational way that reveals the commonalities between all of these people. Picking up on specific astrological energies in a person can be tricky, as you can easily confuse one placement for another. So, it is a very smart method of understanding just how an energy manifests in people with that placement. I do notice that Cancer Risings have those little "cracks" in their veneer. Even when they think they are hiding what they feel, they really can't do it successfully. It makes sense because they do oppose Capricorn, which wants to make sure that there's no chinks in the armor. With Cancer, you see all of the chinks in the armor and it's probably why they can sometimes seem defensive or insecure because they don't have the same "shield" that most people have. Also, the Moon is reflective, so they are always reflecting on their behavior as they're doing it, which can take them to an emotional place in the middle of a conversation. Also, since you're an 8th House Pisces Moon, I imagine that hiding that vulnerability and dealing with your emotional issues alone has been a truly major pattern for you, more so than a Leo Rising who has the Moon in a more open, transparent sign or house. Maybe you also do that out of a certain self-sacrifice (Pisces) because you believe yourself to be stronger and more resourceful (8th House) than others around you, so you don't want to burden them with your feelings and needs. That's what's coming across in what you said. Anyways, I would love to turn this into an ongoing back-and-forth with you as far as the rest of the Rising signs. I can even plan to do my own research for each Ascendant and we could swap notes. I will watch some interviews with Virgo Rising people today and then wait for you to do your post.

Thanks again, the89freespirit , I appreciate your insights on my moon. Edit About this project, I have been meaning to do this for years, just got a brief start at LL with Aries in Mercury a long time ago, and never even got to Taurus Mercury. Doing much better so far with the rising signs! Will try to get to Virgo ASC later tonight, and looking forward to seeing how our notes compare.

Generally, there is an intelligent and reserved aura about Virgo rising individuals that is unmistakable. These are actually somewhat shy people who need time to analyze things around them before they warm up to both situations and people. This quality can be received exactly as that, or it can be received as a rather stand-offish, cool, and even critical manner (depending on the audience).
One of the biggest personality traits of this position is body-awareness. People with Virgo ascendants are sensitive to any discomfort or other signals their body gives them. Many are especially interested and concerned with physical health, and some are attracted to mind-body awareness exercises such as yoga. Virgo rising people are often rather particular about food. Although some have good appetites, there can be an unmistakable pickiness about what they put in and on their bodies.
Virgo ascendant natives have a tendency to worry a lot, especially when confronted with new situations. They notice the tiniest details that others overlook.
Many people with this position have a tendency to attract (or be attracted to) people who need help. Their relationships may be confusing as a result. Despite the Virgo rising tendency to appear rather collected and professional, relationships can sometimes be messy simply because these natives don’t always see their partners and partnerships clearly.
There’s a quiet charm to many Virgo rising people. Once they have the chance to warm up to new people and situations, you’ll find they have a lot to offer. They’ll help you out of a jam, go out on a limb for you, and surprise you with a natural modesty under a somewhat critical and standoffish manner.
