This is a fascinating article talking about how fasting for 3 days straight can essentially help regenerate your entire immune system. 3-day fastHas anyone here tried fasting for this long? If so, what are your experiences? I am interested and want to see if I can try it for myself.

What does this include (or not include)? I couldn't find what type it is in the article. I have friends who try different types of fasting. I suppose different levels work for different body types. Also, the purpose can modify things. Is it a detox? If we're flushing toxins out, there are some short-term intensive diets that do just that. Increase in certain types of food and absolutely foregoing other types. If the one you're talking about is entirely without food & water, that I've seen done in 12-hour periods (sunrise to sunset)... I haven't tried these myself... Well, not intentionally at least. But I'll ask them n see how they felt afterwards.

It would depend if you could spare the time to feel woozy for 3 days. Blood sugars would drop quite a bit id imagine and that doesnt feel good :/ interesting article though, i wish i knew more about nutrition

I've done this with juice, only drinking tea, juice, smoothies, and soup. I've known two very different people, who fasted on only water, for anywhere from three to ten days. I can't imagine that.

On the juice, tea, and soup, I felt GREAT. I slept well, felt relaxed/more cheerful, and I liked having it all made before the sun came up (in January). I got sick then, though. I also did it July 2015, and felt wonderful. I had soup in the fridge and freezer, and made the juice fresh every day.

I did an intensive 10 day cleansing fast to try and reverse infertility. I got pregnant immediately after that.
I did the 10 day lemonade cleansing fast. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne. That was easier because the maple syrup was helping against hunger.
I've gone days on just juice or smoothies, or just fruit...that is no big deal to me, as I usually don't have much of an appetite. However, with that first ten day fast, I was reading cookbooks and crying by the end of the first week. "Remember corn muffins?!?" *sobbing*
Most days I do try and achieve intermittent fasting, its benefits are numerous and directly observable. Eric Berg (chiropractor) has many videos on this:

I don't engage in true blue fasting but I do partake in intermittent fasting Monday through Thursday. Essentially what it is is that you're leaving a very small window of time to consume calories for your body, and this method supposedly speeds up your metabolism. When I wake up I just have a cup of coffee, drink some Emergen-C, and try to consume 1.5 liters of water until my "window" for food opens up at noon until 6pm. I've tried to do this in the past and it was EXTREMELY difficult, particularly as I had a more rigorous workout schedule at the time (which required me to consume far more calories). Unfortunately I no longer workout M-TH due to my new schedule, but I now find it easier to subsist off of a smaller quantity of calories because of the lack of activity. I truly do feel much leaner, brighter, and more alert on these days due to intermittent fasting. Terry Crews (and Ava ) break down the concept more eloquently than I:

Thanks girls What does this include (or not include)? I couldn't find what type it is in the article. I have friends who try different types of fasting. I suppose different levels work for different body types. Also, the purpose can modify things. Is it a detox? If we're flushing toxins out, there are some short-term intensive diets that do just that. Increase in certain types of food and absolutely foregoing other types. But I'll ask them n see how they felt afterwards. I think this one is to reset your whole system. Like really clear it of all toxins, but I'm just looking into this now and am not well versed in fasting at all. I've never done deliberate fasting in my life. I've done what was essentially 'fasting' in times when I was so stressed that I couldn't eat, but that was unintentional fasting and it wasn't pleasant to be extremely stressed lol. This three day fasting does interest me, but like you said, different levels work for different body types and I don't want to undergo 3 days without researching more about it first. It could be dangerous for me and irresponsible for all I know. I'd assume you'd drink water during that time though. I don't think the body can go more than 3 days without liquid anyway. I've done this with juice, only drinking tea, juice, smoothies, and soup. I've known two very different people, who fasted on only water, for anywhere from three to ten days. I can't imagine that. I think that article is probably referring to that kind of fasting, where you only drink water. BUT FOR UP TO 10 DAYS? Wow! May I ask what kind of soup you made as well as what kinds of juices? I did an intensive 10 day cleansing fast to try and reverse infertility. I got pregnant immediately after that. I did the 10 day lemonade cleansing fast. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne. That was easier because the maple syrup was helping against hunger. However, with that first ten day fast, I was reading cookbooks and crying by the end of the first week. "Remember corn muffins?!?" *sobbing* I love your wealth of information. This is so cool. I like the idea of lemon juice. And thanks for the youtube clip! The more I think about this the more I want to actually get into a regular regime of intermittent fasting. Had no idea that fasting can also reverse infertility. That's mad! athena I couldn't quote all of what you said, but I love this information. This part: It makes sense. It seems we don't realise that we're eating so much that we literally give our bodies zilch time to work on anything else. It's constantly preoccupied with digesting, digesting and digesting. It's akin to giving us work to do from 7am to 11pm every day, with the rest of the time only dedicated to sleep, and we know how badly people handle that. Whereas if we give our bodies a break from digesting, our cells can now focus on their other "projects" that they've had to shelve. They can take the project off the shelf, dust it off and then get creative with how they can rebuild themselves. It's like their play-time. At least I'd like to think it's like that. Oh man, now I feel sorry for my body.

This thread inspired me to fast. Two days ago, only vegetable soup. Yesterday, only hot lemon water for breakfast and the afternoon. Today, hot lemon water and kombucha for breakfast....might have lemon water again in the afternoon. Some people say it's not really a fast if there's any sugar or calories involved. I was hoping to achieve a water fast but so far I'm listening to my body and not willing to push that far. I mean, I have to drive places, and all-water makes me woozy. So, this is really more like a liquid diet with intermittent fasting in between. I'm writing about it because I think it's fairly easy, also puts me in an interesting headspace (though I get mentally fatigued easily), and I can feel my organs behaving differently. I don't know if it's my liver or gallbladder but it kicks into high gear, then there's a fat burning sensation, along with a bit of an emotional "high." For a long time I've believed that process must be curative, it simply feels like a significant change just occurred, with me feeling better afterwards.

Ava That's so cool! I like the idea of hot lemon water. I'm mad about the lemon flavour, it's very refreshing. I also want to learn to make kombucha myself. I'm actually thinking of doing the three-day fast in about a month's time. But I have to prepare myself first. I was told to go into ketosis first. I want to see what effects it'll have on me.

Thanks @sopranosoul I'm curious how your experience might go. I do think it's worth it for everyone to try this...to see what it's about, and how their body handles it. It gets hard sometimes, strong emotional ups and downs, cravings, low energy. Also, forgot to mention I do drink some herbal teas (non-caloric)...that's mainly for emotional comfort and to help with a sense of sensory deprivation. If I tell myself "this crappy feeling is actually accomplishing something" and celebrate the small things, I can get through the crunch times alright. Just gotta remember it's normal, and okay to take a break to try and heal. So I don't stress myself out.

I used Jason Vale's smoothies and juices, following the worldwide cleanse he hosted on the internet - sending out recipes and videos. I found it easier to follow along, when I had his videos to follow every morning, and knew others were doing it, too.
I had lentil soup homemade, some tomato soup, and now I have turmeric soup, too. Mum made an oxtail soup/stew near the end of my first one that I tried in 2015, so I had some of that before I went to sleep, because I was hungry. I miss her.

Still haven't had any solid food except a bit of chocolate.
Coffee, tea, hot lemon water, Flor-Essence, freshly-made juice for lunch (kale, beet, cucumber, etc) and a Chris Wark smoothie for dinner, with a square or two of chocolate for dessert. That was the past two days and I felt fine.
1 Thai coconut 1 frozen banana 1 cup raspberries
I think I'll stay on this diet today as well. Just need to stock up on ingredients.
Not sure why I'm "reporting" this except it helps me stay on track and I think it's interesting how non-hungry I am. Well a whole coconut is very sustaining.

Ava, Awwww yeah, Thai coconuts are nice. I actually have coconut oil that I ordered straight from Thailand, and it's nice.
