"The US has a more aggressive vaccination schedule than any other country. But no effort is made to justify that disparity. The doctrine is, "the more vaccines, the better," and anyone who objects or has concerns with side effects is branded an "antivaxxer" and ridiculed. Well if this ever-increasing vaccine schedule is so great, why is the US the only country doing it? Why do other countries impose limitations or demonstrate caution?"
Yeah, I would imagine part of it is because the US has to pay for stuff like this, right? In the UK we generally don't unless its something weird and specific like if you're travelling to somewhere that you would need a vaccine for.
I suppose people's views will depend on stuff like this too. We are lucky, to an extent, to have our NHS or what is left of it at least. The important vaccines are provided and further care will be provided free of charge if one has a bad reaction. I can imagine for US citizens, the vaccination thing is more of a head tangler as it is a health and financial decision. I guess, anyway. Correct me if I am wrong.
This seems like a US argument though, no?

I do feel that it's more of a US argument, FruityLlama. Doctors do have strong financial incentives to coerce patients into accepting vaccines, a conflict of interest that I feel should be outlawed. They receive bonuses directly from pharmaceutical companies, per injection, and extra bonuses when a high enough percentage of their pediatric patients are on schedule. Therefore many doctors will refuse to see children whose parents are trying to stagger, manage, or be proactive in selecting which vaccines feel right to them. Patient reactions are usually trivialized along with parents' concerns about them; overall the process is more of a profit-driven business than actual healthcare. 'Didn't mean to get into all of that, because the information isn't promulgated, and sounds almost like conspiracy theory. But enough doctors have come forward complaining of the financial manipulation that I take it for a fact.

Ava, thank you for explaining that. I don't often have the energy to get into that with people either, but man...I am so freaking happy to have found a new potential doctor for my kids who doesn't freak out about vaccinations. (Did I say "freak" enough times?) I found out about her through a local homeschooling group on Facebook, because I think vaccinations often play a big role in US folks deciding to homeschool. It's not our primary reason as I mentioned, but what a relief to find doctors who might actually listen to their patients!

But yes, FruityLlama, this is probably an issue somewhat unique to the US. Back to the OP though, I can honestly say this flu season was really nasty for my family. My husband has had shingles for three weeks now (the rash is subsiding, but he still gets pains), and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a direct result of his immune system being down from fighting so many viruses over the winter.

I hope your husband gets better soon Violets that sounds horrible :/ We've just had another bout of winter- thank Russia and its violent windstorms right now, so I am looking forward to a load of colds coming my way very soon..haha! I am sorry for the way your country deals with these things though, it must be an absolute nightmare.

Thank you, FruityLlama! Yes, it's a bit of a nightmare. Wishing you a strong immune system with the influx of cold weather! 💕

So glad you see where I'm coming from Violets . And I'm really happy for you, about this: "It's not our primary reason as I mentioned, but what a relief to find doctors who might actually listen to their patients!" Wonderful We haven't found the right doctors yet. We had a phenomenal doctor who was lenient with vaccines; he "fired" us. We have another practice with good doctors but it's almost an hour away. --- Thanks for your sympathy, FruityLlama . Just looking for sanity, in both senses of the word! It really is enough of a problem that I'd say, it's foremost in my mind when I daydream about moving out of the country. "At least I won't have to deal with all that BS."

It's not our primary reason as I mentioned, but what a relief to find doctors who might actually listen to their patients! That was apparently our main reason for being homeschooled, when I was fifteen, and we came back here. Despite the promises from my parents that we were moving to California, so that we would be homeschooled, and wouldn't have to deal with high school BS anymore, the deciding factor for my mother was that we would have to be vaccinated. She didn't want that. I have to make more turmeric soup. This has been a s**t week, and I ran out last weekend.

lumina , that might give you an idea of what "news" in the US consists of. FEAR. BE VERY AFRAID. I don't watch or read the news very often, it messes up my energy. ( anela I'm trying to find that Young Ones clip of Neil's friend saying "Neil, my barely adequate psychic defenses are crumbling." Me, every time I read the news. 😂) I love that you love The Young Ones. I haven't watched that for years, but I did when I was in England.

Ava, I totally understand where you're coming from. I just don't often like to talk about it. I don't believe that it's a "conspiracy theory" to understand that our doctors and pharmaceutical companies here in the US have monetary incentives behind their "concern" for our health. Anyway... Nope, you're definitely not alone on this one. 💕

The fact that we don't have that transparency from the medical establishment, when we ought to, is depressing in itself. Good luck with your new doctor!

Omfg... I was added to an anti vaccination group on Facebook, and some of the stuff they post on there sounds as absurdly full of propaganda as the pro vaccination propaganda. I mean, it's like people just pick and choose which information to put out there, and we have to just guess at where the actual truth might be. So annoying. I should edit to add that it's only the propaganda that I find annoying, not their aversion to vaccinations.

For those of you in the U.S, do you know exactly which vaccines it is that the doctors are pushing on to you?
I don't know if its helpful but maybe you could try looking at British healthcare sites. We are fairly open and tend to promote the very essential stuff due to funding, so it might help you?

FruityLlama, I've looked a bit, but I'll look again. The list of vaccines in the US (beginning at birth) is so long, I can't recall all of it.

I am always weighing whether or not to go on FB. This is one more thing I think I just couldn't handle. FB seems like a place where everyone is shoving stuff down each other's throats. "Believe this! Believe that! Do this!" No

Ava yeah, that's basically what it's deteriorated into. To be fair, I post a lot of pictures of my kids, our "farm" (it's not a farm anymore, but I don't really know what else to call it), and I just posted something about my brain exploding from people's horrific abuse of apostrophes. But yeah, it can really negatively affect my energy when I read something that hits the wrong nerve.

I sometimes go quiet, like over the holidays, when I was dealing with too much emotionally. I still am.
