1. Mesha = Aries 2. Vrishabha = Taurus 3. Mithuna = Gemini 4. Karka = Cancer 5. Sinha = Leo 6. Kanya = Virgo 7. Tula = Libra 8. Vrischika = Scorpio 9. Dhanu = Sagittarius 10. Makara = Capricorn 11. Kumbha = Aquarius 12. Mina = Pisces Each sign is divided into Nakshatras. Each Nakshatra is divided into padas (four padas per Nakshatra). It's similar to the Western division of signs into decans and duads. === Chandra = moon Mangal = Mars === Kendra - angular/cardinal houses

THE ASTERISMS or NAKSHTRA
It was observed by the ancient Astronomers that many changes occurred within the 30 degree zones mapped out by the Zodiac. It was therefore, found necessary to subdivide each of the twelve sections or Signs of the Zodiac. Using the belt of Fixed Stars which encircle the Earth at the Equator as markers, they divided the Zodiacal Background into 27 sections, the boundary of each being marked by a particular Fixed Star, located close to the Zodiacal belt. These sections are known as the Asterisms or Nakshatras.
They begin at the same point in the Constellation Aries which marks the beginning of the Zodiac,. and since each extends over an arc of 13 deg-20', there are therefore twenty-seven of them in the complete circle of 360 degrees.www.vedicrishi.in/astrology/index/act/basic-concept#mainList of Nakshatras: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nakshatras

You're so welcome, midnight . When I was in college I would copy my notes for my harder classes, over and over again. I want to learn all the Nakshatras and I might end up repeating information a lot, to try and make the information stick. For now... Keeping in mind that the Vedic/sidereal zodiac is about 24° behind the Western zodiac: When Vedic astrologers talk about your Nakshatra, they are referring to your moon placement. There are 27 Nakshatras because the lunar month is approximately 27 days long. === Rulerships of whole signs: ^ That one sent to me by DopGang Signs are subdivided in Nakshatras, with their own unique rulerships: The underlying order of those rulerships is explained here:

Atmakaraka = (Sanskrit atmakaraka, from atma- 'soul', and karaka- 'significator' .) Atmakaraka is the significator of the soul's desire in Jyotisha.
The natural Atmakaraka is the Sun in all natal charts. The personal Atmakaraka is the Chara Atmakaraka. Chara in Sanskrit means 'movable', and one of eight planets (Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu) can be the Chara Atmakaraka, depending on its degree (0°… 29°) in the natal chart. The planet that has the highest degree is considered the Chara Atmakaraka.
In Jaimini Astrology following karakas exist:
Atmakaraka (Own self, considered the strongest planet) Amatyakaraka (Career) Bhratrukaraka (Brothers and sisters) Matrukaraka (Mother) Putrakaraka (Children) Gnatikaraka (Cousins and relations) Darakaraka (Husband, wife)
Some experts give an 8th karaka; however, most only use 7 karakas. In Jaimini Astrology these karakas are identified from the descending order of degree. The planet with highest degree, minutes and seconds will be Atmakaraka, next planet with lesser degree will be Amatyakarka and so on (since the lunar nodes run backwards, applies the inverse number of degrees of Rahu).en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmakaraka

As per Jyotisa a Yoga is given rise to when one planet, sign or house is related to another of the same kind or different kind by way of placement, aspect or conjunction. It is the active consideration of planetary yogas and the active consideration of the planetary Dashas i.e. directional effects, which are the two most important factors that distinguish Hindu astrology from Western astrology.---A yoga may be good or it may be bad in its effect. The good yogas are called the Shubha-yogas or simply yogas, the bad i.e. evil; yogas are called the Ashubha-yogas or simply avayogas or durayogas. Raja yogas indicate a high degree of power and authority, and the Dhana yogas, a greater degree of material possessions. Arishta yogas indicate difficulties in life, and the Daridra yogas indicate poverty. Parvarajya yogas or Sanyasa yogas that give religious merits compel a person to give up all wealth and material possessions to become a mendicant and beg for alms, these are not avayogas.Much more here:

This is quite straightforward. The meaning of yoga is 'union'. Therefore, planets in conjunction or in aspects are in Yoga.

This is quite straightforward. The meaning of yoga is 'union'. Therefore, planets in conjunction or in aspects are in Yoga. Yes, also, as he says, one planet may be a yoga by itself. My 9H Jupiter is called a yoga, I assume because it's domicile. He says there are about 300 yogas. He mentions parivartan yoga: mutual reception by house The meaning of Parivartana is ‘Exchange’. A Parivartana yoga happens when two planets mutually exchange their houses. It is like a planet ‘A’ is sitting in the house of planet ‘B’ and vice versa. When two planets exchange their houses, they behave as if they are sitting in their own houses. Generally both will try to enhance the significations of the house they are sitting. A planet posited in its own house is very strong in giving results to the native. In Parivartana yoga, both the planets will behave in similar fashion. When the planets exchange their houses, they are linked together like mutual aspect.

My moon is the Atmakaraka, too, unless Rahu counts. I've seen some debate on whether it does or not. Frankly the readings below for Rahu seem unfit to describe "the soul's purpose." I must have a really small soul if the whole point of my existence is to cheat and be cheated. Not only that but this would mean that about one eighth of the world's population has that same soul purpose. Makes me laugh. The Sun Atmakaraka
{FC}: When the Sun becomes AK it indicates the individual will hold a deep value for power, position, and respect. This indicates the person has to learn humility to overcome their karma associated with ego.
{VL}: Ego, self-importance, ideals, name, reputation become the pivotal issues in the native’s life, and he should learn to subdue his own ego.Moon Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the individual should be very caring and compassionate, and family and social life are important. The person needs to overcome small family attachment and realize the whole world is one’s family.
{VL}: Emotions and compassion towards others becomes a big issue. Due to excessive emotional dependence, the native may always be looking for relationships, or relationships will be looking for them.
Mars Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the individual may be competitive or aggressive. They need to learn to have playful competition and refrain from all forms of violence following the path of non-violence (ahimsa).
{VL}: Short temper, or excessive anger/violence may be expressed or experienced by the native, and the native should make a conscious step to throw away any weapons and grudges and learn the path of non-violence or ahimsa.
Mercury Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates the individual is very interested in communication (such as mail) and information (such as books). The person needs to control their speech, debate less, and be truthful at all times.
{VL}: When to speak and when not to speak becomes a major issue either for the native or his/her social circle. Such people should be particularly careful of what they say, and to whom they say it.
Jupiter Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the individual has an affinity for expansiveness and wisdom. The person needs to be open to others’ opinions, and should always respect the Guru, husband and care for children.
{VL}: The most important issue for such people is whom they consider as a teacher/guide and whom they do not consider. Such people should learn to respect their teachers and elders. There is a risk of the person neglecting their spouse, or suffering separation from their spouse. They should care well for their children.
Venus Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the individual is concerned about aesthetics, music and creativity. The person needs to control their sexual energy, and refrain from lust and illegitimate sex.
{VL}: Relationships and sex becomes a major issue for such people. The person should always try to maintain purity in relations, and not to overindulge.
Saturn Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the person will see sorrow in their life and understand the suffering of others. They need to practice not giving others sorrow but instead share the sorrow of others.
{VL}: Either the native sees a lot of sorrow in life, or gives a lot of sorrow to others. The native should learn to take away the sorrow of others, but not give sorrow to others.
Rahu Atmakaraka
{FC}: Indicates that the individual maybe cheated often or not conscious of situations that they became entangled within. They need to practice good discernment and refraining from deception.
{VL}: The person trusts others too easily, and as a result often finds himself cheated or deceived, and a risk is there that the same person may cheat others in return in a never-ending cycle of cheating. The person should learn to accept deceit and move on. Foreign people/places also have a vital role to say with this graha.

Mine is Saturn, and absolutely spot on. In my 12th house, which I find interesting. In Western it's in my 11th, but both methods fit.

That's sad, though, Violets. 🌷
Sighhhhh.....Saturn, you bastard. I get tired of you.
The moon does seem to fit best for me. I have a high-maintenance moon anyway (sign + aspects).

Interesting to me that both my parents also have Saturn as their Atmakaraka. Also very fitting.
My husband has Mars (lol) Oldest son has Sun Baby has Venus
I can't speak for the baby yet, but everyone else's descriptions seem pretty accurate.

Nice to know there's no mention of Moon in 2nd house, and my Jupiter moves from 8th to 9th in Vedic! I posted that list but it's really confusing to me. For Cancer rising people (us), Jupiter becomes malefic. So is it better or worse, or not even worth mentioning, when Jupiter occupies its own house? I think I'm shelving that concept for now, and going to try and learn other things. Like I don't even know what a dasha is. I'm watching this, and he's explaining:

Taking notes on the video above:
- Mars is responsible for your life in the first 7 years. Wherever its situated and its conditions determine what you go through in the first 7 years of your life. Mars is first because it represents physical form.
- Dasha order @ 3:54
Mars 7 years Rahu 18 years Jupiter 16 years Saturn 19 years Ketu 7 years Venus 20 years Sun 6 years Moon 10 years
...then it cycles to Mars again.
- Contradicting (?) the idea that Mars is the first dasha, your Nakshatra is what actually determines your first dasha. - So if your moon was @ 15° Leo when you are born, you are starting with Venus dasha, because Venus rules that Nakshatra. But the Nakshatra started at 13.20° so you are starting a little bit late. So instead of having a full, 20 year Venus period, you'll have a 15 or 17 year Venus period. And so on...so if you're born at the end of your Nakshatra, your first dasha will be short. - Then he gives an example of someone with an early Cap moon, whose Nakshatra is ruled by Rahu, and Rahu is badly placed in the horoscope. The person would suffer for the first 18 years, but then Jupiter dasha begins, and if Jupiter is well-placed, life gets better.
I have to believe there is some legitimacy to all this, but seeing it for the first time, it all looks pretty random.
