We often encounter traumatic events or are hurt by interchanges with friends and family. These seems to rob us of energy and leave us depressed or anxious. Using self-healing exercises, whatever form these might take, would be an essential tool to aid recovery.
It would be very helpful to collate techniques or exercises for practising self-healing, such as visualisations using white light or candle burning with affirmations. Any personal experiences with these would be great to hear about too.

I visualize my energy being pulled from my feet and root chakra to the Earth, where my energy flow or cord connects with the center of the Earth (yes, I'm freely using capitalization where it's not needed in this instance ), feel that healing, cleansing, loving energy flowing up from Earth to touch my energy field, move through my root chakra, and through all of my chakras and body, up through my crown chakra...where it continues with my energy, moving up into Source Light, and feeling Source Light flow down back into my crown chakra, and down through all of my chakras, filling my body. If I sense blockages, I energetically try to remove them, or pray for help from angels, Guides, and those ascended, all who come from God's Light and Love who would like to help, both known and unknown to me by name. This works well for me, and I usually place various stones on various chakras, depending on how those chakras feel, and which stones "call" to which chakras, or vice versa. Thank you for reminding me of this, Astro, as I haven't been doing much of this at all lately.

Thanks Violets . That's a lovely technique, straight forward and easy to remember. The Healing Trust, a well established body with healing centres across the UK, use a 3 step process in preparation for healing - Grounding, Attunement and Protection (GAP). The protection stage is meant to protect the healer and the one being healed during the healing process. In self-healing this could be a done as a final step, where one surrounds oneself in a bubble of pink or white light as protection from all negative influences.

I do something similar to that also, @astrokeen. But I should probably put more attention to that part of it. I usually envision the Earth energy and Source Light as surrounding me, or at least fusing with my energy field as a protective barrier. I pray to be surrounded and protected by my Guides, angels, and anyone else who has stepped in to help. But envisioning that light extending itself more often would definitely be a good thing. I sometimes extend that shield of light around our house, and I try to extend it around our property, but...this neighborhood, I don't know. It's not as unpleasant as it was a while back just in terms of energy (very, very normal suburban neighborhood--boringly so), but there's sometimes stuff floating around from neighbors, etc.
But yes, good idea to keep that in mind more often.

The Buddhist Tonglen practice offers ways of self-healing. Tonglen is regarded as the highest and purest meditation in the practice of loving kindness and compassion for ones fellow beings. Its ultimate goal is the attainment of Buddhahood. The meditation itself has various stages, some of which can be adapted for the kind of self-healing one is discussing here.
The Main Tonglen Practice - (summarised from The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche)
"In the Tonglen practice of giving and receiving, we take on, through compassion all the various mental and physical sufferings of all beings and we give them all our happiness, and well-being, peace of mind, healing, and fulfillment.
1. Before you begin with this practice, sit quietly and bring your mind home. Meditate deeply on compassion. Summon and invoke the presence of all the buddhas, bodhisattvas, and enlightened beings, so that, through their inspiration and blessing, compassion may be born in your heart.
2. Imagine in front of you someone you care for who is suffering. Try and imagine every aspect of the person's pain and distress. Then, as you feel your heart opening in compassion toward the person, imagine that all of his or her sufferings manifest together and gather into a great mass of hot, black, grimy smoke.
3. Now, as you breathe in, visualize that this mass of black smoke dissolves, with your in-breath, into the very core of your self-grasping at your heart. There it destroys completely all traces of self-cherishing, thereby purifying all your negative karma.
4. Imagine, now that your self-cherishing has been destroyed, that the heart of your enlightened mind, your Bodhicitta, is fully revealed. As you breathe out, then, imagine that you are sending out its brilliance, cooling light of peace, joy, happiness, and ultimate well-being to your friend in pain, and that its rays are purifying all their negative karma.
5. So at the moment the light of your Buddha streams out to touch your friend in pain, it is essential to feel a firm conviction that all of his or her negative karma has been purified, and a deep, lasting joy that he or she has been totally freed of suffering and pain."
It is suggested by various teachers that one should gradually work towards using this practice for all people including those who may have harmed us. This is the ultimate test - to send the same loving thoughts to an enemy as one would to a family member or friend.
Sogyal Rinpoche suggests the following as a first step:
"Divide yourself into two aspects, A and B. A is the aspect of you that is whole, compassionate, warm, and loving, like a true friend, really willing to be there for you, responsive and open to you, without ever judging you, whatever your faults or shortcomings.
B is the aspect of you that has been hurt, that feels misunderstood and frustrated, bitter or angry, who might have been, for example, unjustly treated or abused as a child, or has suffered in relationships or been wronged by society.
Now as you breathe in, imagine that A opens his or her heart completely, and warmly and compassionately accepts and embraces all of B's suffering and negativity and pain and hurt. Moved by this, B opens his or her heart and all pain and suffering melt away in this compassionate embrace.
As you breathe out, imagine A sending out to B all his or her healing love, warmth, trust, comfort, confidence, happiness, and joy."
I use this practice wherein I imagine that A is my higher self, resplendent, calm, pure, vast and loving. This self regards B with great compassion (I sometime use the Ho'oponopono mantra - Please forgive me, I'm sorry, I love you, thank you).
When using the practice for someone else, I was concerned about breathing in their negativity - what if I hadn't prepared myself sufficiently and would it harm me? I consulted a friend who channels Archangel Michael who said, if I feel that I cannot handle the dark smoke I am drawing towards me, I should visualise Michael standing next to me and give it to him. I thought this was great advice. I believe this technique has the potential for many things - self-healing in the sense of balancing one's energies, but also detaching from painful or obsessive thoughts of wrong doing towards us. I have used it successfully in this respect.

I also use that mantra for when I'm feeling exceptionally angry, or if I feel that I've hurt or wronged someone. I also use it for my own spirit if I feel I've wronged myself by not following my soul and my truth. It's not always easy (for some of us) to get over obsessing over slights, hurts, and wrongs caused by others or even ourselves, so I think for me the most crucial part is bringing myself back to spirit and not ego. The further I go into my ego, the more work it takes to remove myself from it. That said, I would definitely rather give that dark, grimy energy to Saint Michael! I've can sometimes collect enough of that type of thing already, so that last part is especially helpful for me.

Violets , nice to hear that you use the H mantra as well. It made much more sense to me when I figured out that I need to say it from the POV of my higher self - who is sympathetic to the mess I and others found ourselves in where we exchanged angry words or failed to act in an honest and compassionate way. So the higher self asking for forgiveness made perfect sense .

Incidentally, I have Saint Michel at 22.22 in the 4th conjunct Saturn. And 2s in combinations are the numbers I see most often (perhaps messages from Michael?). Michael at 22.22 struck me as being significant, a message that this name has a particular resonance in my life, which it does. He is the person/angel I rely on the most . I have no idea what the conjunction with Saturn here might denote - maybe a relationship from a previous existence or a form of protection. I love the asteroids conjunct my Saturn - influences/interests are plain to see: Reiki 20.9 Hygeia 21 Hara 21° 4' Dido 21.7 Kleopatra 21°14' Saturn 21.12Astropis 21.25 Union 21.42 Ambrosia 22.11 Demeter 22.18 St. Michel 22.22 Interest in healing, astrology and agriculture, for example .

You are definitely a healer, @astrokeen ! I believe that absolutely. I think I checked the healing asteroids in my chart once before, but maybe I'll check them again.
I agree, it makes sense for our higher (true) selves to be asking forgiveness and offering love. It does make it easier to envision, for some reason. Funny how we can sometimes really separate ourselves from that higher self when we're mad or hurt, I suppose.

@astrokeen
Never really followed a ritual, but more like burning a candle which I'm drawn to and visualize burning my sorrows.. or burning pieces of paper (on which I've written my sorrows).

Aha, nice one! minceymouse, I've done that before as well! Whether it's my anger (more par for the course for me), or my hurt (if I want to let go of anger defenses and acknowledge that the root of that is hurt).

@astrokeen, do you have the numbers for those asteroids handy? I think I've checked them in my chart, and I don't recall them doing much, but I'm beginning to look more at asteroid conjunctions to fixed stars now as well. I usually don't have the patience to look at aspects other than conjunctions, I'll admit it. Or oppositions or anything that fits in obviously with my T-square, but I'm still curious again.

Violets , it was healing asteroids, right? 1862 Apollo - also a god of healing 10 Hygeia 5239 Reiki 24984 Usui 1027 Aescualpia 3063 Makhaon 4086 Podalirius 1862, 10, 5239, 24984, 1027, 3063, 4086 You could also try the last three - "In Greek mythology, Makhaon was a son of Asclepius; with his brother Podalirius, he led an army from Thessaly in the Trojan War on the side of the Greeks. Both Machaon and Podalirius were highly valued surgeons and medics. In the Iliad he was wounded and put out of action by Paris. Makhaon (or his brother) healed Philoctetes, Telephus and Menelaus, after he sustained an arrow at the hand of Pandarus, during the war. He was also supposed to possess herbs which were bestowed to his father Asclepius by Chiron." (Wiki) Yes, I mainly go with close conjunctions or there are too many influences to consider. In addition to Reiki and Hygeia, I have Apollo smack on GA and Makhaon conjunct Mercury. And that's it. These asteroid explorations are fun! An interesting bunch conjunct Mercury, but not sure about the significance of Makhaon here. Quaoar 13.32 Makhaon 13.32 Archimedes 13.56 Mercury 13.57 Archimedes at Mercury shows exactly how I operate in my learning - with eureka moments. Foggy periods are broken by moments when things fall into places or I have a sudden insight . Thank goodness!

Full Moons are considered to be very potent for meditation and healing patterns that need to be broken and releasing old blocks. According to the Pranic Healing website, on full moons "The energy coming down towards Earth ... is very strong".
Today is a special pink Moon in Libra. It is at 29.7 Libra, so 30 Libra for Sabian Symbols, which say:
THREE MOUNDS OF KNOWLEDGE ON A PHILOSOPHER'S HEAD.
KEYNOTE: The fulfillment of man's power of understanding at whatever level of existence the person operates.

A note on Ho'oponopono which we mentioned above: Traditional Ho’oponopono is the ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness used to get rid of the stresses of anger, guilt, recriminations in families. In 1976, Morrnah Simeona, regarded as a healing priest or kahuna, adapted the practices for individuals to release unhappy, negative experiences in past Reincarnations, and to resolve and remove traumas from their 'memory banks'. Later her former student, Ihaleakala Hew Len, co-authored a book with Joe Vitale called Zero Limits. The book brings the new idea that the main objective of hoʻoponopono is getting to "the state of Zero, where we would have zero limits. No memories. No identity." To reach this state one has to repeat constantly the mantra, " I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you." It is based on taking responsibility for everyone's actions, not only for one's own. Conversely, because all consciousness is part of the whole, any error that a person clears in their own consciousness should be cleared for everyone. Joe Vitale became well known for curing a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. The psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. As he improved himself, the patient improved. Essentially, he looked at the patient’s files and said, 'I'm sorry', 'I love you' over and over again. The technique is described here: www.ancienthuna.com/ho-oponopono.htm"1. Bring to mind anyone with whom you do not feel total alignment or support, etc. 2. In your mind's eye, construct a small stage below you 3. Imagine an infinite source of love and healing flowing from a source above the top of your head (from your Higher Self), and open up the top of your head, and let the source of love and healing flow down inside your body, fill up the body, and overflow out your heart to heal up the person on the stage. Be sure it is all right for you to heal the person and that they accept the healing. 4. When the healing is complete, have a discussion with the person and forgive them, and have them forgive you. 5. Next, let go of the person, and see them floating away. As they do, cut the aka cord that connects the two of you (if appropriate). If you are healing in a current primary relationship, then assimilate the person inside you. 6. Do this with every person in your life with whom you are incomplete, or not aligned. The final test is, can you see the person or think of them without feeling any negative emotions. If you do feel negative emotions when you do, then do the process again."

I was fortunate to release a lot of extremely harmful energy up to and during this full moon. I'm thankful for that, and I'm hoping it will continue until I feel completely myself. It really was a wonderful full moon.

I used to listen to hypnosis CD's, and I look them up on youtube when I remember to do so. What helps me is grounding myself, though - get myself out of the way of whatever/whomever is upsetting, distract myself to get out of my head, and then I can usually look at things logically. I sort things out by writing them out, or just talking to someone - but I also don't like to dump things on people. I can also usually empathize, even if I'm feeling angry or hurt, and I get over most things. It just takes time/depends on what it is.
I need to get in the shower right now, to lose some tension, and then work in the garden.
