What I’ve noticed recently is that Mercurial suns don’t tend to have really good relationships with their fathers. Gemini Suns tend to gloss over it and not discuss their family. But Virgo Suns especially tend to really not jive with their fathers. Even Daniel Sloss who was born in a happy family took jabs of his father (describing him as his stepdad). MJ and Macaulay Culkin both have terrible relationships with their fathers. Prince also didn’t have good relationships with his parents. Angelina Jolie is another one.
In many of these cases I’m surprised to not find hard aspects to the sun. The Virgo Pluto generation obviously is gonna yield sun-square Pluto but the other generations seem to show similar patterns. A gem I know with cancer moon thinks her father is egoistic and unrealistic but has cordial relationships with her parents.
Did you notice the same thing?

Hmm, I dunno. The Gem suns I know have pretty good relationships with their parents. But that's just anecdotal information.
I reckon about half the world has mommy/daddy issues. The type can sometimes be seen in the natal chart. I stick to the traditional "afflictions" to see what the theme might be.

I haven't noticed that. Some of the male Virgo suns I've known practically become their fathers.
Well with MJ, his father was abusive and he was abusive.
Not sure about Gemini, I have known so few.

Boys and their fathers, girls and their mothers... It's so common, it's a trope.
There were rough spots, no doubt. There was a good relationship there underneath, or at least I'd like to believe.

You had a longer post and then you self censored again ... oh well. I just didn’t have a chance to do a proper response. Many of us have certain nurturing issues but I’m trying to see if I can specify... what I noticed is especially Virgo Suns even when not afflicted seem to view their fathers as grumpy or just a lot of work. Daniel Sloss, Wade Robson are examples. MJ has a sun-pluto so it manifests as the father being brutal and violent. Sun square Pluto tends to have very volatile fathers but not sun-opposite Pluto. Gemini, I recently learn, tend to not appreciate their parents as much because they like free-flows learning environment and parents tend to restrict. It’s a quincunx kinda relationship. Not anything terrible here, just disagreements I guess. Vs how Aries/Leo sun can idealize their fathers. geminiblues I’m not trying to insinuate any “problems” as much as viewpoints. I think gem Suns don’t tend to be as critical of their fathers as Virgo. Gemini’s also don’t like to talk about their dark side ... but overall they’re just less grumpy ppl in general haha |

Sorry, don't mean to nitpick, but I have sun square Pluto and my father was the opposite of volatile, he was kind and laid-back.
My father also had sun square Pluto...my grandfather wasn't volatile, not that I know of. He was stern and taciturn, however.
Libra is involved with all of us though: my father and grandfather were Libra suns, and my Libra Pluto is conjunct my grandfather's sun (he died just before I was born, with tr Pluto on his sun).
Anyway Libra is more gentle I think.

@theunknown , Sowwy, Merc square Saturn. For one, I thought it wasn't directly answering your question. And as I was writing, I was flooded with impressions of all the ways those things could play out (such as outer planet afflictions meaning the parent is subject to those forces from the outside, as opposed to them embodying that archetype, and so on). Picking one of those and running with it would be insensitive and didn't seem fair.
I thought I wasn't covering anything substantial and didn't have the energy to really get into it.
But I'm interested to hear what kind of issues you think mercurial suns have...

Ava you’re the only sun-square Pluto I know who doesn’t have a violent father. I know quite a few Taureans of my generation and their subs are opposed to Pluto and nothing happened. But I have yet to met a sun-square pluto with really antagonistic relationship with the father. I got a 911 call the other day. The father punched the mother. The children, one is a libra and one is an Aries, both have sun square Pluto .... 12YearsABlob you did raise a few points about maybe we can transform our energy or something like that. I was busy so o didn’t want to come back with an inadequate response (Mercury conjunct Saturn here). I don’t think Gemini’s have as bad a problème as Virgo. And it’s not like Virgo’s have a problem as much as the Virgo children are very critical of the father. I know a few Virgo personally and they seem that way too. Like they do appreciate the father but also reallly critical, more than they do with their mothers. Maybe i need to compile a list ...

I have two Cap friends with sun square Pluto and we all like our dads. Bradley Cooper also, Cap sun square Pluto, good relationship with his dad. Tiger Woods also seemed tight with his father. I had one Cancer friend my age whose father was still alive and she never said anything bad about him. I'm trying to think of what hardship we might all have in common. But I can't really find a pattern. If anything we might have more than the usual amount of compassion for our fathers' struggles in life and say things like, "He messed this up BUT...." |

My bf has Mercury rx conjunct his sun in cap. Though he also has chiron on his MC. His father was quite strict i dont think he appreciated while growing up but he has alot of respect for his father now.
My friend has virgo sun, saturn, jupiter and they had a distant relationship with their father. He feels his father was more interested in his hobbies.
My ex has sag sun/mercury/uranus and his parents split when he was about 10 and rarely seen his father since then. Though they also had sun sq moon.
Another friend who has virgo sun has a great relationship with their father though.

I dunno about Sun-Pluto, but now that you mention the difference between the opposition & square.. I've seen differences in how Moon trine/square/opposite Pluto operates. It's very interesting, the opposition is drastically different from the square (in terms of relationship with mother-figure). Remind me to bring this up some other time.

I would connect violence with an afflicted Mars in the parent's chart (and in some cases, the child inherits it).
Pluto is more about control, subtle or overt. Mars square Pluto types can have trouble with authority for this reason. Sun square Pluto might have a similar distrust of the 'system'(?) My mom had Sun conjunct Pluto. She does not work for anybody and set up her own 'system', with unbending Plutonic integrity. It's a strong brand to have, but it's not for everyone. The people who like her stuff, stick with her through anything and are doggedly loyal. Those who don't, don't. There's very little grey. That's another Pluto theme - inspiring this kind of loyalty within their circle. Kinda like the Godfather. They know he doesn't play by society's rules (not in a Uranian I'm-gonna-do-what-I-want way, Pluto takes it one step further). But that's the way he operates, period. They can take it or leave it. More often than not, they take it. Pluto's magnetism is hard to resist.
(I'm pretty sure he had some Saturn signature too, but that's another story.).

LOL, okay you know what I mean! I am also weird about brand loyalty, come to think of it. I mention it in conversations, ie "So glad I have achieved brand loyalty to this laundry detergent. I love my laundry detergent." Perhaps we need to modify that to "don't trust any system but the one they've personally approved" or something like that? Definitely, that hits the nail on the head for me and the sun square Pluto people I know. I guess we might distrust hidden (Pluto) motives and sometimes prefer to do everything ourselves, take matters into our own hands, rather than leave it up to someone else. Well Kate Middleton has her sun-moon opposition on the nodes squaring Pluto if you allow wide orbs. She did her own makeup for her wedding and I've read she doesn't get manicures either. Bradley Cooper directing his own film and learning to sing. A bit of control freakery, that's probably the word for it. |

Ava Bradley was also obsessed over Joseph Merrick since very little and he played him on stage, did his grad school thesis on him too. Pretty obsessive as well as control freak. Maybe I’m just hanging out with all the messed up sun square Pluto 😂 |
