And I`ve seen it referred to a symbol of "unrequited love", too, though I think the other interpretations makes more sense. Esp. that feeling of being completely overwhelmed and overpowered by circumstances beyond her control that drive her crazy, literally.
Jeez, I still have Mr Law`s voice in the back of my head, during the Hamlet-Ophelia scene "Get thee to a nunnery!" LOL So much venom and bitterness. Honestly he`s an amazing stage actor, I think I`ve never seen anyone being more intense in his stage-performances, and it actually puzzles me how the silver screen seems to take so much away from it, almost like distorting this intensity (which is not at all beautiful to watch at all times on stage, as it is sometimes touching on too primeval archaic portion of the brain, which is a little unsettling to the civilized person
)and pouring some sort of shine upon that portrayal, as if to smoothing out those edges. I actually never really got how he could have a Scorpio-Mars squaring Sun, UNTIL I saw him on stage.
But anyway, Ophelia.... in my chart Ophelia is on 4 Pisces, hmm, squaring Mars, but not really doing anything really big.
BTW my Draco Ophelia is conjunct my tropical Shakespeare. LOL
Well my pr Ophelia is conjunct my natal Juno, I do not even want to think about this.
Hmm, P`s natal Ophelia is on 9 Aquarius (squaring his natal Chiron exact), exact on my Pallas, and my pr Sun has just left the 1 degree orb for conjuncting it.
Interestingly the time my pr Sun was EXACT on his natal Ophelia (0.00 orb) was last year, when I was in London the last time, seeing Jude of course. Well and just a few days after that there was a concert P was giving, he was actually sick/ injured and was acting mostly on pain-medication that time (not sure it was wise to drink all that wine on stage). He didn`t seem totally master of his senses to be honest, at times, and was acting partly rather erratic (and I am not even meaning the moment when he suddenly ran behind stage and came back to give me back my caketin I had left on some workshop before, and going on about how I had been baking bananabread for him. But all in all he seemed a little, well, erratic. Also that week he was experiencing his nodal return. I mean that night of the concert it was exactly Tr NN conjunct his natal NN with no orb).
No clue, maybe I WAS making him a bit crazy, not even in the good sense.
Our composite has Ophelia on 21 Aquarius exactly opposing Saturn on 21 Leo and squaring Juno on 22 Taurus. Though it ALSO trines Mars-Amor-Cupido-NN on 20-23 Libra.
I do like the Sabian of our composite Ophelia though

Saturn: A Carrier Pigeon Fulfilling Its Mission
OH and on monday Tr Ophelia will be exact conjunct our composite ASC (An Unexpected Thunderstorm), our composite ASC is conjunct the fixed star Altair (flying eagle) - I kind of like that, eagles SHOULD fly!
but obviously also squaring our compospite chiron on 29 Aries, Atropos on 00 Taurus and Union on 29 Libra. Makes one wonder, if having the ASC on the Union/Atropos-mp means it is a connection constantly deconstructing itself?
It is weird that there is no asteroid Hamlet, but an Ophelia one?
oh and on monday Tr Sun will be conjunct composite NN-Amor-Cupido-Mars, trine c-Ophelia which btw is exactly conjunct c-Osiris, too, and sextile c-Saturn, and conjunct P`s natal Pluto exact (opposing my natal Chiron). Ugh.
Funny enough on the first workshop I attended, which seems to have a lasting impression, well on me for sure. lol
Tr Venus was exact conjunct P`s natal Ophelia and my Pallas
Tr Ophelia on 9 Scorpio was exact square his natal Ophelia
Tr SN on 6 Virgo was conjunct my natal Ophelia by 2 degrees applying and exact on my Pholus.
Also his Ophelia conjuncts my Orpheus on 10 Aqua, so Tr Venus was conjunct that as well back then.
Well Tr Orpheus (sextile his Ophelia) was also conjunct my ASC-Neptune-NN and his own Mercury-Musa. Hmm butterflies don`t cry I suppose.
Though that moment we were actually both having tears in our eyes, of course just because of the touching music. erm. Not because it meant something or so. lol
Then thinking back of the concert when he literally alluded, well verbalized, that I was driving him crazy.
his pr Ophelia on 19 Aquarius on my natal Atropos exact (A Large White Dove Bearing A Message) - it definitely was a major turning point in my thinking at least
his pr Orpheus had come to exact conjunction of our composite ASC, and applying to his pr Sun, in Aqua naturally
Tr Ophelia was on 2 Taurus on the exact same degree of his natal Vesta and just one degree off our composite Atropos, and squaring c-ASC
Tr Orpheus and Tr Pluto were conjunct and both conjunct my pr ASC at that time widely, exact opposite my pr Saturn, and conjunct and his name in my natal chart on 12-13 Capricron
my pr Orpheus had just transited over my natal Ophelia and conjunct natal Pholus (yes I was surprised. lol)
Tr Ophelia exact opposing my pr Uranus (well it was on the degree that kept on coming up as ASC or DESC or Moon in recent event charts curiously, too)
Orpheus: 3361
"
Orpheus was a noted singer and musician, son of the muse Calliope, whose songs were so beautiful that he could charm any living thing, even the very stones of the earth. Orpheus learned his craft at the hands of Apollo, god of music, who had been a suitor of his aunt, the muse Thalia, and recognized the boy’s talent, giving him a golden lyre and instructing him in its use. Orpheus’ mother was the muse of epic poetry, and taught him the art of lyrics.
Orpheus’ most famous adventure was his trip to the underworld to retrieve his lost love Eurydice, where he used his musical charms in stirring the heart of Hades, god of the dead, to permit her release. However, Orpheus’ was ultimately unsuccessful in this endeavor, due to a lack of faith [see the entry on asteroid Eurydice for further details].
Orpheus’ death was a tragic one. After the loss of Eurydice, Orpheus eschewed the company of women, despite the lure of his song, which caused all who heard it to desire him. some of the Maenads, wild women who followed Dionysos in his revels, became so offended by his rejection of them that they threw sticks and stones at him, but even the branches and rocks refused to hit him. Enraged, the Maenads set upon Orpheus and tore him to pieces. But Orpheus’ head, thrown into a river, continued to sing dirges and mournful songs, as it floated out to sea with his lyre..
Astrologically, Orpheus represents musical aptitude, prophetic skill, the ability to persuade or entreat others successfully, and contact with the dead or dying. Grief is a common theme for those with a strongly-placed Orpheus, both grief for those lost to death, but also for lost circumstances, or the elusive “what might have been”, the situations which never fully developed due to countervailing conditions or lack of focus in gaining them."
Very true so far, but what many do not know about the myth, is that Orpheus eventually was reunited with his Eurydike, when after his cruel death, his soul ended up in the underworld and spent eternity with her. Of course if he had had a bit more faith in her love and dedication to follow him, he probably wouldn`t have had to go through all of that turmoil and pain before.
But as a pupil of mine recently said to me and made me nearly choke with laughter, when she expressed her disbelief at how "dumb" Orpheus was, because either she was following or not, and h im looking back wouldn`t have changed anything about the fact, so he was acting illogical, but as she said "Musicians are always so over-emotional and sensitive. Totally illogical." LOL
