I've just seen a post on facebook, about dead crows, and it reminded me of this thread. Their cat died, but it had a tumour, and a well-known friend of her daughter died. Someone else responded that they're putting too much power in something that doesn't hold it.
We usually have a lot of crows around in the winter. They look spooky, filling up the driveways looking for food, covering the trees, too.

anela I agree with you that the traditional meaning of a crow is "messenger of death".
But I do have a family of crows near me and they have a different meaning for me. Crows are messengers of ancient wisdom for me. Although some people fear unknown things I do appreciate them and accept the lesson that I may not have noticed. Every time when a lot of those birds fly over my house I send a message to them and feel connected to the other world.

Last week I saw a huge black beetle that appeared to be like a scarab. I came home, got on the computer and looked up beetles in my state to see if it could have been a scarab. While I was looking, I got into a text conversation with my best friend. She was talking about possibly developing her intuition. I asked her, "Can you tell what animal am I looking at?" She paused and then replied that she tends to think I'm scared of birds, so maybe it was a bird. I said, "Close, it's a beetle, and some of these can fly. And I'm scared it's a bad omen." Well I guess it was? But my mind was divided because I have a real fondness for that beetle. I had never seen one like that before. So as I was staring it down, and it was moving from the curb to the grass, maybe to escape me, I was just thanking it for "materializing" before me. Scarabs are supposed to be so meaningful. ".. In ancient Egyptian religion the scarab was also a symbol of immortality, resurrection, transformation and protection much used in funerary art."
